    Being a fan of this man for 50 years makes it feel like an old friend when watching interviews.....Peter was a big Beatles fan as was I.......it must have been an amazing feeling when he heard that John Lennon thought "Selling England By The Pound " was one of the best records he had heard!!

    magicact Peter Gabriel gives very thoughtful interviews that you consider "boring and tame", meaning that he's not trying to 'entertain' you in an interview, but is answering the questions as thoughtfully and authentically as he can, which I'm very appreciative of him for making the effort to do so, rather than being very superficial and shallow as many so-called 'artists' tend to be when interviewed.

      You lost respect for Peter Gabriel just because of an interview? hum interesting point of view. Peter Gabriel spent a lifetime pushing the boudaries of music he doesnt need to entertain me in a google interview to earn my respect. speaking of which, he doesnt need to earn your respect at all

    Oh man. Watching and listening to this man made me almost cry at the end. He is so ahead of his time that I think a lot of people won't even yet appreciate his ideas or realise the potential they have. And also so admire his humanitarian work. And you could write multiple speeches about the impact his music has.
    Was also a very touching moment, the guy second to last thanking Peter for his work.

    I am so very happy that the last question got in there about "In Your Eyes." When I was a young man back in the 70's I burned out 4 vinyl copies each of The Lamb and Foxtrot and almost got evicted I played them so loud. I never imagined I would be listening to anything so often again, but In Your Eyes is Like time spent with god and I listen to it once or twice a day, this newer version. The character you create for me in that of the Hierophant. I have always called you my High Priest. Don't worry I know you are just a guy, but the character has been a blessing in my life. Thank You, Mr. Gabriel.

    Pete is such cool grounded cat, great interviewee and a wonderful musician. Saw him in 2003 during his Up tour and his sense of humor is outstanding. The PA system shorted out during the show and he handled with humor referring to it as a "f-up." Unfortunately, where I live here in Minnesota, this market has only been a stop on the Up tour since I became a huge fan of him and Genesis in 1985. I wish my employer would invite him to speak at our organization. One thing I appreciate about him too is he is an open minded celebrity who when he gives his opinion he does so in a non-judgmental way with respect to others.

    Thank God for Tony Stratton-Smith !! If it wasn't for him ? We probably would've never heard of Peter Gabriel or Genesis.
    He backed that band & whole heartedly believed in their talent even though they never made money, and were in fact hundreds of thousands of British pounds in debt when Peter Gabriel left Genesis in '75. It never bothered the gregarious Strat; he believed in "his boys" & and we are all the richer for it.....
    Bless your soul in heaven, Strat !!!

    Since I first listened to "The Lamb" back in '95/'96, and knowing of Peter's brief and unfinished involvement with movie making back in the mid-70's, the only way I could envision "The Lamb" was as a feature-length animation. It's very good to hear it's still a matter of interest creatively, and to know someone is working on a concept involving animation is very reassuring. I'm sure that, if it ever sees the light of day, whatever comes out of it is going to be awesome.

    Does anyone know if what he says at 2:59 (about the last track on a vinyl) is true?

    • @christheghostwriter
      @christheghostwriter 11 років тому +2

      It is true. Record needles have more room/time to vibrate in the long, slow grooves at the beginning of a record than they do at the end, where that part of the record is spinning more quickly
      Imagine spinning a small object around you at the end of a long string (like a big metal washer or something). It will make a sound as it moves through the air. Now shorten the string significantly, and spin it again. The pitch of the sound will be higher, because the washer will be spinning around you more quickly and the sound vibrations it makes as it moves through the air will be smaller/shorter. It's the same concept with the record needle.
      Does that make sense?

    • @muzicaz
      @muzicaz 11 років тому

      the ghostwriter Very interesting! Anyway, nothing is really perfect but I still prefere the vinyl sound...

    • @mvl71
      @mvl71 11 років тому

      the ghostwriter I could be wrong, of course, but it seems to me a vinyl record spins at a constant speed of 33 1/3 rpm. It doesn't get any faster near the end...
      At the start of the record the needle covers more of the groove per second than at the end, so more and more music has to fit in less and less inches of groove as it nears the end of the record. I imagine that music at the start of the groove is therefore recorded more detailed than near the end.

  • @garypowell1540

    There are many things about Genesis that are amazing, but a few that particularly come to mind is that, OK, the band had a great start with Tony Banks and Rutherford somehow coming together with Peter Gabriel and Antony Phillips, which was crazy enough already. But then coming across Phil Collins who was not only an incredible drummer, but a good enough singer and performer to replace Gabriel when his left, and also before hand come up with the likes of Steve Hackett to replace Antony Phillips when he did, is just too much luck.
    How did so many mega talented people come together in the same band? Which also begs the question how did all of these egos manage to put up with each other as long as they did? The obvious answer seems to me that they are all particular shy, and fundamentally insecure people, including most surprisingly even Phil Collins, and Tony Banks.
    Another strange thing is that only Steve Hackett seems particularly satisfied with almost all of what the band produced. Most of the rest seemed more interested in getting a hit single, and appearing on Top of The Pops. Where they all still trying to impress their own mothers, or fathers? Grammar schools boys are rather strange people, after all. People who come from reasonably stable and comfortable family backgrounds, have great difficulty coming to terms with their own success. They always want more, even if they are not particularly interested in the money, which few of them are as they never really struggled for want of same as youths.
    They also have a habit of looking a gift horse in the mouth as others within their own early acquaintance or families seemed to have achieved perfectly nice, happy and more contented lives for themselves, without having to prostitute themselves to the Music industry to make a living, put on a false front to fans or the public as a whole, get involved with accountants, promoters, or other aspects of a business, or possibly humiliate themselves before a live audience. You simply can't be in as deep into something as insidiously evil as the Music industry, without often getting the feeling you have in some ways sold your soul to the devil. You see it all in its most horrid, over time.
    You may console yourself by repeatedly claiming to yourself and others, that it is all about the Music, which it may very well be, but they can be forgiven for often thinking that maybe it just was not worth it, and that they may have been better off, just becoming an accountant, doctor or an insurance broker, as at least their marriages may have lasted, their minds less deranged, and their kids been happier.
    OK, they all wear it far better than people like Roger Waters, but you can often see the English Post Christian middle class cracks appearing in all of them.

    I SIMPLY CAN NOT WAIT FOR TWO OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER.......
    SMASHING PUMPKINS AND PETER GABRIEL......
    I guess the real reason for this post is that I have been a truly huge fan since my first CD.
    I would like to make it known to you that you have brought the will to live to me and mine.
    I would like to say that I feel the major rock stars of my genereration have been the Smahing Pumpkins.
    I want to express that your work and the work of the the Smashing Pumkins, would define the "sound" of the 90's"
    PLEASE GET TOGETHER WITH THE SMAHING PUMKINKS. Or so I think.
    Well It has been some time since this was a relevant post. I speak here of knowing some dark things. Peter Gabriel....... you seem quite withdrawn and almost depressed in this video. I would only guess because it is where I seem to have found myself right now. Kids in my time were liststening to snoop-doggy dog or Dr Dre on the school bus ride home. When asked "who are you listening to" I responded "Peter Gabriel".
    I was like 13 at the time. You were simply my favorite music.
    You are still my favorite music.
    I just wanted to let you know that your music has inspired me always.
    Games Without Frontiers was the first song I can rember on the radio; and that song led me to my first CD ever.
    16 Golden Greats.
    Since this CD you have been my favorite artist of all time.
    I have introced you to every different crowd I know.
    It does not matter the crowds I have been involved with........we all seem to love you.

    "So" is his last great album, wasn't much impressed by subsequent work, except for soundtracks. His work up to that point is spectacular, he is a true genius.

    The Smithsonian is a good place to look for old software and hardware tech when resurrecting 26 year old sounds Pete. They collect all that stuff to help with obsolescence issues.
