Ah Katy, well done missus- great finds for your collections. I'm partial to a good biccie tin myself. Loved the history lesson too. Bryant & May, the London match manufacturers of the said strike were Quakers but surprisingly seemed a lot less concerned about the health and safety of their workers as compared to other very famous Quaker businesses of the time- e.g. chocolate confectionary makers, Cadbury (Birmingham), Rowntrees (York) and Fry (Bristol) who's ethos were deeply routed in their faith and values that made a huge difference to how workers were treated and valued.
Oooh! And yet another layer added to the story! That makes it even more a scandalous! I didn’t know about the other Quaker brands, but now I will be extra happy to have a Cadbury egg.
Yes, you can put the butter dish in the fridge. But when taking it out it may cause condensation from the change in temperature to rust/tarnish the metal. But it’s perfectly ok to store your real butter on the counter as it is covered. Enjoy ❤
Congrats on the exciting haul! I love the lighters, but the match sticker is just so cute! Thanks for the lesson, too, I love learning random stuff like that.
Wow, incredible finds! I love the tin and the match striker, but I also love how very "you" the other items are--what a success! Fascinating history lesson--I didn't know any of that.
@LaughCryDIY workplace safety has come a long way (even if it isn't perfect). Phossy jaw, radium girls, the Shirtwaist Factory fire, and probably much more...lots of danger just from going to work. Who knew a match could represent progress and safety? :)
Ummmm.... I'm totally fascinated by your last antique find and the unexpected "Match Talk" history lesson!!! I had no idea. And side note: I just discovered your channel, and I'm so glad I did. I've been binge watching your videos for the last hour 😂 I love your creativity, style, and humor. Happy to be a new subscriber! Cheers and love 💕😊
Strikology 101-Thanks Professor for the cool history lesson. Thank God for the Salvation Army so girls could get s break… literally!!! Glad you’re back. What a haul, major scores.
Great history lesson, thank you! I live close to an avenue called Les Allumettieres (The Match Makers), and I now understand where it comes from. I loved the antique tin box. Maybe you could paint the indise in silver or black, and use it to keep an assortment of fancy tea bags (packet in individual pouches). I enjoyed seeing how much pleasure your found treasures give you. Have a great week, Katie!
Itemized fan-girling alert! Alert! OMG, the biscuit tin. So romantic! Chef's kiss! Also--dude!--even the butter was pretty back in the long ago. I can't get behind a pen that's not chew-worthy, but hell yes for lighters! I'm on my five-millionth pack of smokes rn. And, as a chain-smoking writer, I think that pen lighter is perfect for me. Lmk if you don't already have my address. The tiny lighter? With purple snake skin? OH HELL YES. Because sometimes a fancy lighter is worth the price of a purple snake's life. I'm literally swooning about the cigarette box. Who's jealous? What? Best-worst of all, I can't with the match striker and the history lesson. Swoon. I'm over the edge now. And up at 4am on deadline. 😜 And rambling....k....End of micro-procrastination break....🥰
I am honored that you match my enthusiasm and understand why I picked them up! I was worried I wouldn’t find much in the markets because things are sooo pricey or breakable, but I’m so happy I found what I did.
To me, this was a perfect video. Very unique items AND cool knowledge. Its hard to pick just one treasure, I love the lighters, but the striker is SO unique. How could you possibly think you wouldn't find anything?? Its PARIS!😂
What an unexpectedly awesome haul. Love all your finds. The biscuit tin design reminds me of a Maxfield Parrish print I have, ethereal beauty! You'll have to give us another tour of your match/ lighter/ ashtray/ cig case " But I've never smoked" collection. 😹😻
Great finds. That’s funny that you have never smoked but collect smoking accessories. I don’t drink but I love vintage bar accessories. And thanks for the history lesson. Fascinating stuff
Good news is, butter doesn't need to be refrigerated. That's just an American thang we do, unnecessarily. Living in Los Angeles, I leave butter out, unless it's uncontrollably hot in my kitchen (like during LA summers) and I don't want it to melt entirely. Otherwise, if it's butter (not margarine or vegan substitutes) you can leave it out. Enjoy your shell!
The bisquit tin is very cool, can think of so many uses for it. Whoa on the shell dish container, and......with matching knife, nice! Oh my - the lighter is really cool, was surprised when you revealed it was "lighter". And...a reminder of sexy Oscar and all he has to offer! Adorable little mini lighter - how sweet. I don't recall ever seeing a lighter that small. I had no idea what the cigarette case was. Very unusual, a music box cigarette holder - interesting. Score on the match striker, I'm jealous - it's pretty damn cool! I did not know about "Lucifer Matches". I did google it, I will be reading more about them. Some of the images were pretty strange. I will be keeping my eye out for them in antique shops from now on. All the information on matches, I had no idea. Pretty scary stuff from back in the day. You shared a wealth of "match Knowledge" and very interesting about the history. I could see this being a topic at a gathering, to generate some weird conversations. I have a match collection - i only have a few antique/vintage ones, mine are mostly from the 90's to present time. You have inspired me to watch for vintage ones now. Thank you.
The match talk is great to pull out at a dinner party if you want to educate and horrify your guests 😂 But, yes, I don’t think I’ll ever find anything cooler in a match striker. I’ll continue to look tho!
So many cool things! Can’t decide between the Empress lighter and the Japanese cigarette case. Thank you for the interesting history lesson. The Victorians had quite a few toxic manufacturing processes - look up ‘poison green’ sometime. Glad you found treasures that you could fit in your suitcase!
Scheele’s green! Another history lesson for another day. I’m so surprised by how many people dig the empress lighter. They’re pretty easy to find online.
Great video, loved the match history. I liked everything, because you have a great eye. I think liked the box best. I'm a sucker for that period and boxes to organize with. Ended with a preposition, sorry.
I just love you I love your real realz and I love that you share your loves and information of your loves with us. Holotta love That teeny tiny itty bitty light...is all one needs. Love it. Thank you for being out in this 🌎
I did find one or two online! www.ebay.com/itm/391931962730?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=szqOSpMQTM-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ymese5bbteg&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I never thought I could be so into match talk! At this point I'm convinced u could sit in front of the camera and make farting noises and I would Still watch😂
The Matchgirls' strike of 1888 reminds me of the Radium Girls here in the states, who painted glow in the dark numbers on clocks & watches in the 1920's & 1930's.
@@LaughCryDIY From Wikipedia: *Do The Radium Girls still glow?* The half life of radium is roughly 1,600 years. Today, roughly100 years after their death, the Radium Girls are still glowing where they are buried.
My favorite treasures of the video were the history lesson, the match striker, and Baguette. ❤
Baguette will be thrilled. She had to hear the match story first.
take it from me, biscuit tin collections take up space. Use them, display them all throughout the house. Don't stash them
Good to know! I’ve been thinking about best way to use it.
Ah Katy, well done missus- great finds for your collections. I'm partial to a good biccie tin myself.

Good to know. I think I’ll definitely try it on the counter.
Yeah I keep smaller amounts of butter out on the counter at a time. That way it doesn’t go off, just refill it every few days.
Congrats on the exciting haul! I love the lighters, but the match sticker is just so cute! Thanks for the lesson, too, I love learning random stuff like that.
Definitely my coolest find to date!
Love the history lesson but the bird match “thing” is amazing!
I’m so thrilled I found it. There are a lot of those strikers, but nothing like that.
Wow, incredible finds! I love the tin and the match striker, but I also love how very "you" the other items are--what a success!
Fascinating history lesson--I didn't know any of that.
You’ll never see matches the same again! Honored to have shared the horrors of phossy jaw 😂
@LaughCryDIY workplace safety has come a long way (even if it isn't perfect). Phossy jaw, radium girls, the Shirtwaist Factory fire, and probably much more...lots of danger just from going to work.
Who knew a match could represent progress and safety? :)
Awesome purchases, was going to say my fav was the butter dish, OH No the lighters...but the match striker is def my fav , thanks Katy, love love love
I was worried I wasn’t gonna find anything, but I’m glad I got to bring home a fun little assortment.

Aw, this makes me so happy!!!! Thanks for hanging with me (and Baguette). Grateful for anyone who will listen to my match talk.
Strikology 101-Thanks Professor for the cool history lesson. Thank God for the Salvation Army so girls could get s break… literally!!! Glad you’re back. What a haul, major scores.
I gotta share my obscure knowledge so that you all can drop “fun facts” at your next dinner party. 😂

Love that idea. And what a cool avenue name! We’ll never think of matches the same way.
Yay! Parisian Antique shopping haul time! That Empress lighter, though. 😻 I’ve never seen anything like that before.
They’re actually pretty affordable. A lot of different versions of them.
That teenty, tinety lighter is adorable. I love a good history lesson, especially when I'm not bored to tears. Fantastic job with that
I love how everyone likes the mini! It is so cute.
Baguette said. “I am the treasure.”
Yes, she did 😂
Cute treasures but the history lesson was my favourite part!!
Happy to share the horrifying facts.

Haha. It’s just that everything in the market was SO expensive (like simple brass candlesticks for $150 euro).
What an unexpectedly awesome haul. Love all your finds. The biscuit tin design reminds me of a Maxfield Parrish print I have, ethereal beauty! You'll have to give us another tour of your match/ lighter/ ashtray/ cig case " But I've never smoked" collection. 😹😻
I should totally do that. I have some more new lighters and matches coming. I know I sound like Bill Clinton, but I never smoked! Haha
Great finds. That’s funny that you have never smoked but collect smoking accessories. I don’t drink but I love vintage bar accessories.
And thanks for the history lesson. Fascinating stuff
Glad I’m not the only one. Haha. I just like the history for some reason.

The box is so pretty, and the fact that she’s retained much of her gold is especially great.
Oh no! You triggered a new collection for me....I need a match sticker😢😢😢😢
I’m so sorry. I know how hard it is. Here if you need to talk 😂
I just love you
I love your real realz

Aw, make my day much?! That’s so sweet. Makes me very happy if you anyone enjoys my little corner of the internet.
The Empress lighter is my favorito, but I loved seeing all your treasures! Also very interesting history on matches.
Interesting to see how many people dig it. They’re actually pretty easy to find online, so do with that what you will…
Phosy Jaw 😳 I’ve never heard of any of this! Thanks for the info. What a wild ride.
Wild, right?! Now you can win Jeopardy someday.
Great finds! My favorite is the tiny lighter. The history of matches was very interesting ❤
Happy to share the knowledge. And now you can also horrify someone at a dinner party!
A light scrub with aluminum foil balled up will gently remove most of the rust
Ooh great tip!
That was so interesting! I never knew! Good match talk 🔥
Thanks for listening. My cat is tired of match talk.
Looove your finds and especially the history lessons!
Yay! Sorry to educate and horrify everyone.
I wish you caught our reactions on camera to seeing these irl! Especially the last one!
The reveal!
Instantly googling bird match grabber thingy!
I did find one or two online! www.ebay.com/itm/391931962730?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=szqOSpMQTM-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ymese5bbteg&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Such a cool haul 😍 Yeh, I want one of those pen lighters.
There are so many versions of them online too!
Ooh, Ima get on that. Cheers :)@@LaughCryDIY
In Dutch the word for matches is stll "lucifer".
So cool!
Interesting facts. And horrible 😮 love that art deco tin.
You’ll never look at matches the same. I’m sorry. Haha.
All is beautiful!
And I learned a lot. Thank you.
You’ll never see matches the same way 😂
I think Baguette is still mad that you didn’t take him to Paris 😂
Not wrong 😂
Plotting her husband's death -lol
😂
Yes I did enjoy it and I want the last thing as my favorite
It’s just too cool. I’m so happy I found it.
Awesome history lesson, thanks!!!
Happy to tell the tale of the match girls.
I can't choose. All were so unique.
I’m glad I found a few things on the trip. Was worried I wouldn’t.
I never thought I could be so into match talk! At this point I'm convinced u could sit in front of the camera and make farting noises and I would Still watch😂
😂😂 I’m honored, and sorry to have share the awful history with you. But now you can dazzle someone else with the knowledge.
@LaughCryDIY I love busting out random bits of knowledge, so that's OK 🤘🥴🤘
Definitely the match stricker❤
I mean, it’s just the coolest.
How do you display your collections
Great question! I’ve been brainstorming a cool way to showcase them.
That match striker is amazing!
Best score ever
I love the mini lighter!!
I can’t believe how many people loved that one!FYI, they’re pretty easy to find online.
Come again to France !
Can’t wait to!
I love the history lesson!
Happy to share the fun and horrifying facts!
French butter IS the best.
Amen
No Way!! I just painted a small pedestal table with that Kiss and Tell paint color!! Finishing it up today!! Such a beautiful color!
Oh wow. TWINS!!!!!!
Interesting stuff, and my favorite is the butter dish! And Baguette! And you!
Aw yay! You’re the first vote for the butter dish. Haha.
Fascinating ❤
Gotta serve a little history
'plotting her husband's death..' 😂
😂
Loved the match story!
Now you know what it’s like to sit next to me at a dinner party

I know. The poor match girls! Makes me grateful for red phosphorous and labor laws!
I loved the history lesson!!
Aw yay.
Fascinating match history!
Happy to share
Omg that tiny lighter😍😍
Such a bb cutie. Love how many people love that one!
In the Netherlands we still call them lucifers.
Ooh cool.
