Pay and display parking regimes are the main driver of the decline of high streets. Totally unfair on local businesses to hound out their customers when supermarkets have their own free parking.
High business rates and rents. Shutting down for covid when Amazon and the rest were allowed to carry on as usual.
Cars used to have a little badge that entitled you to park almost anywhere. It was called road tax. Then came you can't park there or there or there but you can pay to park here.
I loved Wilko. It was like a Woolworths 2.0, a shop which I’m just about old enough to remember.
i buy some things on line because i have been driven out of town because of car parking and the over zealus wardens
Not just about online shopping. It’s people in general buy less because everything is so expensive now. Electricity bill, food and rent.
Sad too, a genuinely good shop.
Yep I've got three weeks approx then it's done 😢
What's also helping stores close is online shopping, that's has affected it the most. I do most of my shopping in the stores, i only shop online of i can't get a certain item in the store. I prefer in the stores for shopping and paying cash. I love Wilko, shop there every 2 weeks, i will definitely miss it.
Jaqueline is pretty on the money with her appraisal. Major rethink required.
Shame. Another nail in the High Street coffin 😢
High st is nothing but smack heads now. That's what's been encouraged
Wilko in Sheffield always used to be full of people but the last few times I went in Wilko in Sheffield the place was empty of people and its strange how it went from being full of people to suddenly empty of people and I knew Wilko was going to close down.
It's only going to get worse for the UK high street from here on in. This is because it's already bad enough in UK cities and towns to get parked somewhere but now they're introducing all these congestion charging schemes too.
People are just going to shop even more online and get the stuff delivered to the door.
In London's case with ULEZ, it's not only going to be another nail in the coffin for shops but also for tourism as other Brits stay away from visiting the capital because of all the extra charges now involved.
Some nice stuff in those stores.
When you are shopping it Not just about quantity it's about quality Unfortunately there is so much rubbish being sold on the streets it's a joke You have to look for top quality all the time The uk England Britain used to make some of the best quality things that you would need in your home We're used to my top quality things that will work what you are paying for Today you can't even buy a decent tin opener We are overrun by foreign rubbish which Oscar and control which is breaking shops What happened to the seal of improvement And equality checks If it's cheaper nasty don't buy it 😊
When the owners take out to much money and do not reinvest then this happens ,but in reality most shops are going to close due to mortgage rates, council tax, electric, rents of properties ,
Come on, if they can kill woolies, the oldest store in the country, they can do anything.
So what happened to the deal with B and M?
I’m sad too. I love Wilko. You can always get some bargains there.
Wilko is like another Woolworths closing
Sad and a shame for the workers, but think internet shopping is to blame. People who work where I work do shift work and find little time to go down town too. Maybe shorter working weeks would help the high street. Also travel costs and car park costs put people off of going down town.
The high st is finished you can get everything on line and cheaper i even brought a wife on line for the bargain price of 50p 😂😂
Respect 🤡
From China no doubt.
Was it 50p with 20% tax 😂
We have a housing shortage, controversial but I say shop online, it's cheaper and convert shops into homes other than large grocery stores where you can buy almost anything there too if needed quickly. Whether you like it or not the high street will eventually die. If you want the shopping in the high street experience you'll probably be able to do it using VR.
She will be calling for statutory redundancy to be reduced in a few weeks.
It's all good they can get jobs at Turkish barbers and polish shops there's loads where I live
Use it or lose it. Don't be sad. Plenty of jobs availab;e in hospitality, farming or even the NHS. Beitain is booming at the moment.
"Good news Poundland is buying some of the Wilko stores" - yeah just what we need, more bargain basement stores that only attract the dregs of society!
Disgusting comment
PRE-ANTICHRIST PERIOD
BORN-AGAIN ESCAPE IN RAPTURE TO HEAVEN !
It's sad...but honestly Wilkos was awful. They sold stuff you can pick up in a supermarket whilst you did your weekly shop.
If it was awful, why do you feel sad?
Yo nuh hear mi Seh Tek lick
Lot of stores are closing down in 5 years? And even bank closing down And People don't have money? Due to cost for living crisis? Everything online? Like bank account? There too much charity shop? Because there technology and GPT chat is taken over
Another great brexit benefit for the UK
Wasn't Brexit, it was greedy bosses who can't manage a business is why Wilko fell, stop blaming everything on Brexit when that's not the reason at all. 🤦
Keep you head in the sand so if you like
