Thank You so much for the video! It really brought back wonderful memories of my trip to Zermatt in 2018! My mom and I took a train tour through Switzerland and we stayed overnight in Zermatt! We took the cogwheel train up to Gornergrat, what an incredible view that was!! The Matterhorn was covered by clouds when we were up there, but was in view the very next morning right by our hotel! I remember seeing a lot of hikers when we were on our way back down in the cogwheel train, and said to myself, some day, I would come back and hike down!! I'm a hiker, but with my 81 year old mom, couldn't have done it then! The old town of Zermatt is beautiful, and I wouldn't hesitate visiting it again!!
Wow! What an amazing hotel view you had. Gorngergrat is beautiful isn't it? I loved hiking down from both Gornergrat and the 5 Lakes Hike, it really is heaven there. I am glad we could bring back some memories. I too would go back in a heartbeat.

Super cool video! I've been to Zermatt many times but mostly on day trips due to the cost of staying in this expensive town. Longest stay was 2 nights but next time it will be a week, life is worth living and as I get older, the experiences are more cherished regardless the expenses. Zermatt is the best!

Nice video, except for the fact the Zermatt wasn't "built specifically to attract tourists". The area has been settled for about 6000 years and Zermatt as town was first mentioned in 1280.
We should have said developed instead of built. Of course, everywhere around the world has had settlements well before tourism. This area was developed and marketed as a tourist destination in the 19th century.

This is a great video, thanks so much for posting. It really helped me see what there is to do in Zermatt. Could you please tell me what the temperature was and what month did you go? We will be there the end of June and a little worried about what to pack. We are coming from Dallas, Texas and don't have a lot of room in our luggage. Thanks
We went in August and the temperatures fluctuate. Hot in Zermatt but cool in the mountains.

We didn't stop once. We were up before sunrise, and then ran around like mad until after sunset. It was so incredible, we wanted to see it all and I am so glad we did. We slept after we left :D And the ebikes helped to get around faster as well.

What exact time of the year did you visit? We plan to visit this September from 1-9. The last time we went to Switzerland, we went in August for only 3 days.

We were there it the end of August. It is warm in the village of Zermat and on the hiking trails, but up at the peaks it is cold and sunrise at Stellisee is cold. Just make sure to pack layers and have a great time!

I hear that 1/6th of Switzerland's glaciers disappeared last year. Things are melting at an alarming rate.
@@ThePlanetD not to alarm Europe more.... higher than average solar heating of the Gulf Stream, here in Florida we've been having 90F ocean temps at local beaches - and that same gulf stream is heading to Europe. hot dry Sahara dust increasing heat more here -- it's the warmest summer yet for Florida - even our pool is 91F + 6 degrees in July with the warmer months ahead.
@@tonyd3266 Oh my! I heard that the coral reef in the Florida Keys is hot tub water temperatures. That is scary. Stay cool!
If we got into Zermatt at 1pm, would we have time to grab a rental bike and complete the 5 lakes trail? Not sure how long the fernicular and gondola take... thanks
That will be cutting it close. However, you can grab a gondola back down if you run out of time. You can take the train and gondola up and then start working your way down. Just find out when the last gondola/ train ends so that you can make. Plus, if it is in the summer, you have longer days, so you can stay out quite late.

Yes, you can ski 365 days a year up there.

I'm going there because MeteoSwiss say there is absolutely no pollen there.

It´s on the Jungfrau, near Grindelwald/Wengen. Up to 3450m
