- Buckle up we've got a long one today, Ron & Justine feast on a potato pie and sausages from 1822 then Justine reads us a scary story from 1812 in the book "The Brothers Grim" then Ron and Justine finish the Chew & Chat with a pumpkin carving contest!

I've always wondered how people in the old timey days would have reacted to something like a helicopter somehow time traveling, and appearing in their own time period....now I know by Ron's reaction. 😆

I use the leftover pie dough as savory crackers… just cut in small pieces and top with herbs or salt. My husband loves them.
You should totally do a story time for kids on a regular basis. My kids would love that!

Use cloves to decorate pumpkins....no cutting involved! And....smells so good!!!

Funny thing... My husband is interested in Grimm's Fairytales and recently got a modern copy of it from Costco for 20 bucks and started reading the non scary ones (snow white, little red riding hood, etc) to our 4 year old. So i immediately went to find the Robber's Bridegroom when you started reading lol.
I just bought the same book at Costco. It was a beautiful copy especially the gold leaf and end papers.

Congradulations on your engagement. Justine. When I was young I too wore a 3 1/2 reing on my ring finger and wore my baby ring on my little finger. Good news I am up to 5 1/2 but it took 40 years. I thanked you for the Potato Pie receipt on Early American and now I get to view your reactions. My grandma made potato pie way back in the day, and all I could remember was sliced potatoes in a pie crust. (I was only around age 8 at the time) Your receipt makes sense to me, just a simple but frugal tasty meal. Thanks again for a long lost receipt.
I rewatched this recipe to make this delicious recipe this afternoon for dinner, with bacon and cheese added! In our garden this year, we are adding tons of potatoes, garlic, and onion, just in case. I found you on your original channel, that is such a dream of mine, perhaps a previous life I am reliving.

If your next cat gets out or lost, put the litter box outside. They find their way home by scent. My cat was gone 3 days and it worked for me. She was old and cats will sometimes leave to die so I figured that was what happened. I threw her litter box in the trash can outside. She was back home within hours.

My Russian (ex)mother-in-law made a potato and fish pie (salmon) that was out of this world, very similar to this, but layered. It was also the only thing about her that I liked. She was a tiny beast.
You've got some of my favorite food items there, so that looks quite tasty. I'm even down the with cranberry juice. I just noticed the broom over the fireplace as well, replacing the rifle. Nice touch. Enjoyed the story time too. Justine chugging that "cranberry" juice before pumpkin carving made me wonder what was really in that glass!

I think I read somewhere about moldy rye made into bread in France, that the peasants ate, became hallucinogenic. That's how they "saw" werewolves!

My mother always made potatoes and sausage casserole just without the crust. She always put the sausage on top of the potatoes and bakes them. I still make it today!!!! It's one of my favorite meals. Great story. You guys are great!! Keep doing what you are doing. Ron never be embarrassed about reading. You do just fine.

My husband and I really wanted to come up from Kentucky to the werewolf hunt. It sounded like fun!😅We had to be in Nashville last weekend though. Maybe next year! Also, the potato pie looked really yummy. I’ve got to give it a try.
