I actually love the tiny bubbles which are left in the resin even after the degassing process, they actually help sell the idea that this is water, rather than a perfectly still and smooth chunk of resin.
i thought the same. in fact it would be cool to introduce bubbles, for example as a column above the diver's head. ( sort of like trapped-bubble glass ) ??
You don't want resin bubbles in any type of resin pours as the gasses trapped in those bubbles could make it crack in the future or make it turn yellowish
I dig the choice not to add the light. You have the gap on top so you still get light in the way you initially intended, but the lack of any electronics gives it an elegant simplicity that makes it unique. Another great piece!
I like how you went "Old-School" and scratch built the diver, instead of 3D Printing it. As a sidebar, about the only diver kits I know of are the Heller Frogmen kit, and the frogmen that come with the Monogram UDT Boat - both are in 1/35th scale. Thanks for sharing your skills and imagination, Boylei! 186th Like.
@iain.sm.c Yup! For normal air tanks usually they just put regular "air" with a scuba compressor. For more specialized mixes like nitrox they can change the proportion of oxygen/nitrogen (e.g. 32% O2 68% N) or even put some other gases like helium instead of nitrogen
@CaseStone-520 Kinda depends on who you're talking to! It wasn't for me, but being that he doesn't usually do that, I'm sure it scared some people. I even had to go back to see the small warning ⚠️!
@@StewartFletcher in the beginning of the video, it said there was a foam jump scare. it was really quick but it's there. idk how people jumped from that tho lol
I doubt you'll ever see this, but thank you for always making comfort content (at least in my eyes). I've been watching you since early 2022, and it's been so exciting watching your skills improve, and just seeing the evolution of everything. I can always rely on your art to make me feel better :)
Even though you used acrylic paints on the foam, it was a very good thing to put that ModgePodge on there as a base. That foam will have various gasses in it. So when the resin is added, those gasses would have likely caused a lot of bubbles. Awesome diorama!
Being a thalassophobe myself, I think this piece invokes a nice mix of suspense and awe. I imagine the diver surviving this particular dive but not without being changed... he left a bit of himself down there, or glimpsed something that will call to him from now on. However long he lives, the deep waters have already marked him as their own.
Really love the atmosphere of this build. Very simple in it's way, but all the more moody for it. You were right to not put in a light source - the movement of the light across the rock and diver works so well.
This made me think of an idea for a similar diorama build. A diver exploring a wreck, shining a light into a hole in the side, lighting up a giant eye from some creature.
I absolutely love how elegant and simple this is. No electrics, the cutout at the top allowing for natural light to pour in, just as if it were a real cave. Also, tiny bubbles still present in the resin, although an error, really help sell this scene. Really lovely stuff 😮
I've been watching each and everyone of your videos since a few years and I gotta say, in all its simplicity this is one of your best if not the best work you've made so far in my humble opinion, wish I could buy it and display it in my house!
It has to feel so comforting knowing you can create projects that you love and get paid to do so. It’s a great time to be alive. Love all of your work man 👍🏼 1M incoming!
Love this build. FYI - scuba divers don’t pack pure oxygen in their cylinders. It’s typically just compressed air, and if the dive plan is to dive to certain depths, a mixture of helium is added to replace some of the nitrogen to help curb the effects of nitrogen narcosis. An intoxicating effect of breathing large amounts of compressed nitrogen at depths beyond 70m I believe for most people. Divers like this guy shouldn’t be alone, should have a light and 2 backups, and a dive line which would help him relocate to the cave entrance.
Now that is Pretty. Also with out a direct light source the ambient light that filters in gives a deep water look that is haunting and stunning good job!
It's a beautiful piece, it's kinda weird not seeing any monsters in it, but I guess for the diver over coming his fear of the Deep Water, that the Abyss itself is his own monster. Very Cool Build. 🙂👍👍👍
That turned out fantastic! I don't suggest conquering a fear of water with cave diving, though. Caves are terrifying and dangerous places even without water.
In fact (if I remember correctly) at least some diving suits are made from textile with foam-like structure, so foam have a little more common with diving :D
Day two of asking you to add a mountain man class to your game, it would be like a cross between a barbarian and a ranger. An incredible understanding and respect for nature combined with the ability to wield an axe with cold blooded intention. Also, can you please make a diorama for him with a warg, either fighting it or walking with it. Love your work btw
I think it's awesome to interact with Thallassophobia and other fears with art, and as always the final visual is amazing! Resin pours are always super fun to watch too, I hope to work with similar project one day when I have enough spare income to consistently buy stuff to work with.
A nice simple craft, very well done! This gave me ideas for making resin pours for various book nooks, and I'd love to see some more "book nook" friendly projects of yours. Maybe Wild Imaginary West related or just something unique altogether. You've given me a lot more confidence in working with resin, so I'll definitely be trying my own very soon I think!

i thought the same. in fact it would be cool to introduce bubbles, for example as a column above the diver's head. ( sort of like trapped-bubble glass ) ??
True, but that's just an aesthetic. It's clear down there. Dead still and clear.
to me they look like suspended particulates
I think in this diorama especially. Thinking logically the diver would have an oxygen tank meaning they would be breathing out air.
You don't want resin bubbles in any type of resin pours as the gasses trapped in those bubbles could make it crack in the future or make it turn yellowish
I feel like this is one of your simpler creations this year yet I'd argue it's one of your best. Its atmosphere alone really captures the mood.
one of your best.......... i'd agree. the rocks and the diver ALL seem to float free - because: no frame
I dig the choice not to add the light. You have the gap on top so you still get light in the way you initially intended, but the lack of any electronics gives it an elegant simplicity that makes it unique. Another great piece!
I appreciate the warning for the jump scare
Wuss

Is it even a jump scare if you get warned about it?

I can't believe the ratio between views & Likes!!! How can you watch a Bolie video yet not hit the 👍???
This would make an incredible bookend! especially if the other side had something similar but with a monster
I was thinking the same thing!
Motion is carried...
You know he’s got a monster one coming!
I fifth this idea!
Easy mistake to make, but we actually usually dive with "air" tanks (21% oxygen). A pure oxygen tank would be deadly at depth. Great work!
That's really interesting. Is the other 79% nitrogen?
@iain.sm.c Yup! For normal air tanks usually they just put regular "air" with a scuba compressor. For more specialized mixes like nitrox they can change the proportion of oxygen/nitrogen (e.g. 32% O2 68% N) or even put some other gases like helium instead of nitrogen
Alone in the deep dark water is scary enough without a monster, good call! Eerie, good shading, no extra lighting was perfect.
Still I miss the monster.
I agree. Gives a touch of awe and mystery, without anything as explicit as a groping tentacle or a pair of glowing eyes under a ledge.
@@martinm3474 That's fair: Boylei is an amazing critter designer.
Standing it on end totally sells the depth look. Awesome build as usual.
The jump scare was hilarious
Huh there is no jump scare
@CaseStone-520 Kinda depends on who you're talking to! It wasn't for me, but being that he doesn't usually do that, I'm sure it scared some people. I even had to go back to see the small warning ⚠️!

boylei vids always make me smile. this is good. . . . . . . . . .
9:20 Dunno how to explain it, but I see faces in that shot on the rocks.
Welcome to pareidolia.
Sometimes a diorama doesn't need huge monsters to be impressive. Nice job!
Even though you used acrylic paints on the foam, it was a very good thing to put that ModgePodge on there as a base. That foam will have various gasses in it. So when the resin is added, those gasses would have likely caused a lot of bubbles.

This one was kinda awesome. Probably the best I've seen on this channel for the past 6 month.
Simple, but good.

Amazing work as always. Those final shots are so satisfying to me, and all I did was watch you make it. I can't even imagine how they make YOU feel.
This guy has some great ideas and that’s what makes him one of the best diorama artists on UA-cam
That conversion into the diver was brilliant. So simple, yet convincing.
So love it, great idea sticking to no lights!!
Really love the atmosphere of this build. Very simple in it's way, but all the more moody for it. You were right to not put in a light source - the movement of the light across the rock and diver works so well.
I love the details and color and how they bring all the relatively simple things to life
This is such a "simple" project and yet result is so amazing!
This made me think of an idea for a similar diorama build. A diver exploring a wreck, shining a light into a hole in the side, lighting up a giant eye from some creature.
I second this, little LED work to make the flashlight, an eye cabochan..... that'll be really cool liking

Terrific job. I agree with the comments about it being one of your best dioramas. I love it!
I really like the paint job on the rocks, simple but realistic
A great step-by-step process. Beautiful art work 👌👍
Honestly those tiny air bubbles that survived made it look so much better
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Awesome imagination and skills. 👍
Great creation. love the aesthetic it brings
Gorgeous! Leaving out the light was definitely the right call.
Simple, yet, a beautiful piece of art.
It is definitely one of the most speaking and spectacular dioramas I’ve ever seen you do, absolute masterpiece
I really like how you made a WW II Infantryman into a scuba diver. And no monster to spoil his swim!

How to make anything, especially diving, even scarier? Make it CAVE diving! Caves are so scary to me.
Yeah, caves can get pretty spoopy, especially the ones under water
Stunning colors and simplicity. My favorite yet!
Holy hell, Man!! That is a wicked clear pour!! 😮😮😮

Super cool effect with the natural light cascading through the opening, you always seem to know when a build needs LEDs or not
Now that’s nice work.
Beautiful.
Damn, Boylei. The eerie atmosphere and lighting in this is spectacular. I'm obsessed with that diver.
If you have silicone molds, you can pour your extra resin into them to create rocks
Beautiful! Just something about the lighting and colours you've used!
This is actually a MASTERPIECE !
