The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.
#graves #cemeteries #death
The ground cover looks like Vinca Major. It’s referred to as Cemetery vine in old cemeteries. The wheat sheaf on the grave you asked about was to symbolize the person had a long and fruitful life.
Don't forget, Ireland is the Emerald Island !!!
When My Grandpop came over, he not only could grow anything green or large vegetable gardens but would grow sod and take large patches of it to St John's Cemetery in Stamford, CT!
He also became a fireman in Stamford!!!
I loved him dearly...
Pop Gorman....
RIP
☘️💚☘️😊
Never saw a cemetery laid out like this. It's beautiful and peaceful.
The plant covering the woodland floor looks like vinca minor. It's beautiful when it's in flower. It is covered with small blue flowers. It also goes by the name of periwinkle.
I remember as children we sucked the sweet nectar out of the flowers 🌸🌸
Yes I remember doing that too. Periwinkle I’ve heard of I guess I never heard the other name. I don’t know anything about plants I didn’t inherit the green thumb from both parents 😢
Do these two that you mentioned, have to be physically planted, or do they grow wild?
I also do not have a green thumb…although I wish I did❤
@@malenasaenz8133
I wish I knew but I don’t that’s why I don’t plant anything 🤣 I’m sure a nursery could answer your question.
Hey, how cool, you’re in my childhood stomping grounds. I grew up there, Ontonagan. My wife and I are moving back to lower Michigan in February from Napa California. Wife is retiring in December. Been to Irish Hollow Cemetery many times. There are actually graves all over in the woods surrounding Ontoganon. In fact when I was a kid there was a dirt road that had a grave dead center crosswise and you drove over it, I think it was finally moved in the 80’s. When I was a kid I was waiting for the school bus with my brother and a black bear mugged me for my PB&J, potato chips and cookies, I never did see that Happy Days lunch-pale again. Haven’t been back there in years. Thanks for sharing. There quite a few a few Native American burial sites in that area too.
Gosh that wS so interesting thank you for taking us there
Thank you so much for taking us here. It is encouraging to see the stones being reset and the area cared for.
these people are so fortunate to be buried in such a magical place 🍀
The flower of the periwinkle can represent serenity, calmness, winter, and ice. It can also symbolize blossoming friendships, womanhood, sentimental memories, and everlasting love
This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful feeling cemetaries I've ever seen. I could spend all day exploring it.
It's so nice that this cemetery is being taken care of.
and it is nice that they let some of the natural flora take root it gives a nice quaint feel.
I love seeing flowers on graves where people passed over a hundred years ago ❤️
My four year old grandson and l just had our first old cemetery exploration a couple weeks ago. I was surprised how interested he was and we had a pleasant afternoon together.
way to go, inspire him!!
We had our son join us for cemetery walks, exploring and taught him respect while visiting. He wasn't always up for it though. On a trip to an elderly aunt's birthday party, we drove by a great cemetery spot and braked the car thinking hey, check it out. Our son hollered "Noooooo." 😂😂
@annfisher3316
Maybe next time you could pack a lunch and have a picnic with him. It’s really nice when you are at a really old and peaceful one of the weather is nice.
28:19 is probably a shortened version of "Requiescat in pace" meaning rest in peace. This is R.I.P. true meaning. Great find! I agree, all the green is gorgeous.
Well! What a beautiful, old, huge vine covered Cemetary that was Ron. 😮 I didn’t think it was would be so big either. And it's amazing how well kept it is. And that there are stones they are trying to restore. That's awsome.
Thanks 😊 for taking us along. ❤
Thank you so much for taking me on this beautiful journey! Ron, you did a great job! I love the older cemeteries! ❤
This is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing.
The grave of the children of Gustav and Bertha Keiser(?) shows that the children died one day apart. Albert who was 4 years old died March 12, 1889 and Clemens who was 6 years old died March 13, 1889. How very sad for this couple to lose both of their precious children just one day apart.
Makes me wonder what they passed from, disease maybe😢.
One of the diseases that took so many people in those times.
Thank you Ron for the amazing walk through this cemetary. It is absolutely stunning with beautiful monuments. I have never seen a cemetary like this. The greenery, the wrought iron, the peacefulness and birds singing. Words are hard to describe it. Seeing is believing. ❤❤ This is one place i wont forget, thanks Ron. ❤❤
Let’s take a step back in time and imagine this cemetery in the late 1800’s. It would have been beautiful then RIP to all there🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thank you Ron for this one ❤
🎉
This is what I found:
Requiescat in Pace, or rest in peace, actually comes from a Catholic funeral prayer. To understand the meaning behind RIP, consider each word carefully. The direct translation is “rest in peace” or “sleep in eternal peace,” depending on the context.
When used in relation to someone who died, it’s a prayer for the deceased soul to rest in eternal paradise. In the Catholic church, this was a way to pray for the soul to find a place in Heaven. The word “rest” or “sleep” indicates that the soul is finally at rest with God. There is no more suffering. To die, according to this phrase, is to find eternal peace in the afterlife.
As a common prayer, Requiescat in Pace became a normal way to comfort family after a death. Knowing that the loved one was gone is always hard. The reminder that their soul “rests” in Heaven helps with the family’s grief and pain. Over time, the English translation of Requiescat in Pace became more common. Today, the Latin phrase is rarely used outside of the Catholic church.
❤🙏👍
It was used frequently in the Catholic Church during the 1960's. I knew exactly what it was without looking it up :)
@@Mrs_KafoopsI did too, I read it as rest in peace.
Thank you for this! As a Methodist I had no idea!!
What a peaceful resting place.
What a beautifully maintained Cemetary in the woodlands. So peaceful 👀😁🌺🇬🇧
"Whose woods are these? I think I know." What an enchanted walk. I can imagine groups mourning their departed in this place. Stunning stone work. Beautiful cemetery. I think those are blackberry bushes. Thanks for this awesome walk.
That's periwinkle and is beautiful when flowering too.
This is such a beautiful place, just like a fairy garden. 🧚🏼♀️🧚❤
Being a Yooper myself, I can only imagine the winters these people suffered through. What an amazingly beautiful cemetery.
Thank you Ron! This is now my favorite episode. So many lovely paths, I wanted to walk down them all!
A little information on the name Walsh , it actually comes from Wales, during the days when The English kings were attacking the Welsh, many Welsh people went to Ireland to escape the persecution, and the Irish called them Walsh , also Welsh, so there were a lot of Cymry , Welsh in Ireland
This place is still cherished, what a beautiful, hidden gem this is. Thank you Ron for taking us around this lovely cemetery.
What an absolutely beautiful cemetery this is! For being in the woods like this it sure is well kept. I also love that plant that's spread all over the ground. This is a place a person could truly RIP. Also, it was nice to see that some had flowers, AKA visitors. This cemetery is not forgotten. This was a really nice walk! ♥💐
right on Flo!
Most people buried here were likely born in Ireland or in Europe and came over. Very Irish to say which county you came from, county Cork and such, much like a regional identity, like someone would say they are from Chicago-I wonder if their relatives back there knew of their passing, some may have gotten a message, likely months or even years after they died. This is a beautiful old cemetery, kind of reminds me of Highgate in London, spooky in parts, overgrown with moss, creepers and trees.
Jeffs, is an English medieval surname. It is however of Norman French origin, and was introduced into England after the famous Conquest of 1066. Love your videos & the way you pay respect to the graves/people that you show & tell about .especially those that are often forgotten in time!
I really enjoy your programes. I'm 70 and it's really interesting. And watch you everyday by watching older videos to. Many thanks for all you do. Lyn New Zealand
The layout of this cemetery is amazing.
Just stop for a second and admire how astoundingly beautiful that little country road was 5:14
What a beautiful resting place you can almost believe the Faerie folk are watching
Yes!!!! My very exact thoughts!!!!!
Hello Everyone!!!! I hope everyone is doing well.
I love going around older cemeteries. Thanks for sharing this with us Ron 🙂 its beautiful and hauntingly peaceful at the same time
Pathway looks out of a movie..❤
That was one of the nicest, natural cemetery's, so peaceful and obviously cared for. A pleasant walk in the woods.
Hi Ron
Thanks for taking us with you to this lovely and peaceful place.
615.000 viewers weigh quite a bit, especially in outstretched arms 😂❤ Good job carrying us all around Ron 😅 Periwinkel is a garden plant that has spread in nature. It can form dense patches that cover the ground and displace other vegetation.
Love from Denmark ❤️🇩🇰

If you take a mag glass and follow from the word 'Ireland' to the left-- it's probably a rock but it looks like a little man wearing a hat coming out of the ground. It's probably a rock but it looks spooky.
And if you look to the right side the tree branches makes it seem like somethings watching behind a tree.
Sure it's just trees & rocks but still it looks kind of spooky.
Will continue to watch the wonderful tour of this beautiful restful place. Thank you Ron for the tour.
Ron, looked up the Catholic Tombstone symbolism & it states the wheat etching stands for "farming; harvest; prosperity; full life."
Wow!! This place does indeed look like an enchanted fairy forest!! XXXX ❤👍🤗💞💙💕👏
What a beautiful cemetery . I've never seen one so lush and green .
Beautiful cemetery! Stunning. The camera was worth every penny! And we thank you for carrying us along with your journey! Wow.
The stone that reads "Request In Pace" I believe is actually meant to be "Requiescat in Pace" and it dates back to a traditional Catholic prayer for the dead. It is part of the origin of "Rest In Peace."
See they had a Patrick Byrne from Cork. My father's mother's maiden name was Byrne and there are a lot of them in Ireland, Irish-Scottish actually. RIP to all here at the Irish Hollow.
I love these cemetery scrambles where you just wander and explore. Reminds me of the "adventures" my brothers and I used to get up to.
What a beautiful spot! The ground over is Perriwinkle (Vinca) and would be really beautiful when blooming.
Such an incredible cemetery! The verdant setting adds so such to the mood. It really does have an Irish vibe. Thanks for taking us there, Ron, and doing so with such deep respect for the dead and for our Irish heritage.
Hello from Ohio. Beautiful cemetery. So much greenery. Awesome stones. A painter could have a lot of fun in there. 🌿🌿🌿💚💚
The cemetary and woods are beautiful.❤.
I absolutely LOVED your visit to this magical Irish cemetery. Thank you for showing us ☺️
Lovely place. Thank you Ron. ❤❤
Requiescat in pace is a Latin blessing with Roman Catholic ties that means “may he begin to rest in peace". This blessing is translated to 'rest in peace', a short saying or expression that wishes eternal rest and peace to an individual who has passed away.
Thank you for the video Ron cemetery so nice and clean. So interesting to see the year of the stones. May they all rest in peace
Wheat on a gravestone represents immortality and resurrection.
Beautiful, loved cemetery. It's great to see the tombstones being cared for and reinforced. Flowers show remembrance. Thanks for checking this place out!
00:50 Meet the Devil at midnight?
14:45 Neat angelic design. Site'd be accompanied well with glass of Bailey's and coffee.☕
28:23 Requiescat in pace is latin meaning
"May they begin to rest in peace"
I belive its where we got the simplified Rest In Peace from.
You could pick some raspberries and make some jam to enjoy on a cold January morning
I do. I have a lot of the exact same bushes on my property 😀👍

What a unique and beautiful cemetery.
Such a beautiful cemetery in an enchanted forrest ! Thanks Ron!
looks like Myrtle. Its a ground cover with pretty little purple flowers that spreads like wildfire here in Upstate NY and"Request Pace" (sp) is Latin for Rest in Peace. She must gave been Roman Catholic.
Ron, I was born and raised in Michigan. It is so Beautiful there.
Qestern Marylander here! We have some Walsh families gere in our small town! Bishop Walsh was imprisoned in China for a nymber of years! A local Catholic high school was named for him. He was released and returned to the USA! ☘️☘️☘️🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮
How I enjoyed this episode tonight. Out of all your cemeteries you've visited this one was the most scenic and magical. You really must get yourself to Ireland Ron, they have the best graveyards I've ever seen.

Awesome cemetery, so beautiful with all the trees and ground cover! Thanks!
This was so touching to me, maybe because I'm mostly Irish myself. What a beautiful spot there, seems so peaceful. All or most of these folks came over from Ireland in search of a better life, always wonder if they missed their homeland. Rest in peace 🙏 thank you Ron!!!❤
WOW!!!! Just WOW!!! Thanks a lot!!! That's was wonderful!!!
I luv reading old headstones and hearing their stories.

Hi Ron... beautiful cemetery...lots of old unique stones...lovely Periwinkle ...Myrtle...plants.....very scenic .....thanks again for all your great vlogs...... Deborah 🇨🇦
What a great place and wonderful story to go with it. All those fruit trees going to waste
Bears, deer, bunnies, squirrels, racoons, o'possums, etc., eat them.
@@H_H_____ oh I never thought about the wildlife eating them, silly me, Thankyou for reminding me lol
Wow! Just wow! I kept expecting to see little fairies and leprechauns peeking around the trees and stones there. It's like a magical fairyland. My favorite cemetery you have visited yet. Love how well it's taken care of.
Oh, Whou! That place is just something else! Absolutely breathtaking! Love how the graves just here and there hidden…stunning…💖
36:30 I think these might all be from 1 family. The first face are William and Margaret Reynolds with their son Walter who passed aged 27 before both of them, then the 3rd face is their infant daughter, Elizabeth (undated) and the 4th has their other daughter Margaret who passed aged 21 in 1904 when her brother Walter was aged 10. Really tragic, having all your children pre-decease you. The Lantry family too. Likely parents with their son who died aged 24, after his father but before his mother.
A very beautiful cemetery and surroundings, thnx for a very nice walk around Ron.
Cemetery's tell a story. It is like the last chapter of a life story. Loved this awesome find. It is so serene there.
Beautiful restful place, glad they are clearing around stones & repairing....wonderful people.
Requiescat in pace means rest in peace a Latin blessing
Wow!!! Thanks for taking us,and Ron, don't forget your bug spray next time!!❤
How wonderful!! It is amazing how this cemetery has been up kept! I have never seen woods like that! It was so beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Requezat in pace is Latin for rest in peace One man Ignashus or Iggy for short Couldn't figure out the Cork names but great to hear Murphy, O Neill ,O Rourke and Byrnes, Beautiful cemetery I don't know the name but it looks like creeping ivy Some of the paths are just like some of the little used roads here in Ireland 🇮🇪 Loved this walk Ron just stroll along
