There was limited comparison between these two. I had a Sierra Cosworth 500 in 1988 that was a bit more powerful than this one.
It was bumpy and rattled a lot and was very noisy when wound up. Over-rated.
i had LC 0359 in 1994/1995 and it was much more sophisticated than the SC500. Far more satisfying to drive and much quicker. Mine had a custom exhaust system and was 447bhp on the dyno. I drove it in Europe quite a lot and did one journey of 199 miles in 1 hour 25 minutes. I checked it one day with four people on board and it did 0-100 and stop again in under 15 seconds!
The halcyon days of that kind of driving are now long gone.

Back in the day guy in the rugby team had one of they lotus cartoons 😂, absolutely nuts comical at speed the first time I experienced the noises and acceleration I thought the thing was broken, also first time I seen a fuel gauge drop so quick, over the old forth road bridge for a game in Dumfermline then back to Haddington, what a car brilliant day think we got beat can only remember the car 👍

The RS Cosworth was a rally car and is what you were driving . The RS 500 was named due the homologation numbers not BHP and built by Tickford . The RS 500 is a completely different animal and the legend your referring to in this video . Not the car your driving . E reg 500s and D reg 3dr Cossies .

Hello, rusty. Thank you for your comment. My understanding is that the Cosworth was built for European Touring car regs with the help of ex M-Sport empoyees. I don’t see how Ford could have possibly thought it could have been a rally car (although it was raced here and there) when 4wd had already changed the game by then.

@@TimSmithWordSmith That could well be right , i don't know anything about the European touring cars really and dont think i have even spotted 3drs in touring cars in pictures over the years but will definitely be looking into that as your always learning especially when it anything over the pond . Colin McRae's farther Jimmy McRae was the guy i remember in the blue/white stripped 3dr from the lombard RAC rally era .
A guy i met called Brian Betteridge won the British rallycross championship years ago in his rwd RS 1700t . Everything he beat was 4x4 ex group B rally cars . RWD is amazing in the right set of hands ;)

Lotus Carlton is just miles ahead in every department. I absolutely love all cosworths, but I'd never take any of them over a LC. And should do some research on cars you're driving aswell sir, no cosworth left factory with 500hp. This really just tells us that when you were growing up you were never a Cosworth fan or you'd know a bit more about them, especially what kind you were actually driving!!

Hi there, thanks for your comment. In the video, it was stated that the engine was capable of that power output but ultimately was reduced due to other mechanical considerations within the R&D phase. However, we are always happy to receive comments that we can learn from as a channel and we hope that you enjoyed the episode including the many other episodes we have.
