    Cold hands and cold feet are a good way to make a short hunt!!! Finding what works is always a plus. Pretty nice to see that young bear work up towards Jerod, those critters definitely have no fear of anything until they cut the scent of anything that isn’t right!!!

      Yes, cold hands and feet definitely make a short hunt, Matt! Thing is about finding things that work, you try so many different things until you find what does work. Then you hope what you find stays on the market and isn't changed or discontinued. Matt, we generally see bears up there every time we go to camp. It was 1983, when I saw my very first bear, and it was 3 of them. It was two cubs and a momma bear. I thought it was deer coming up the hillside, then all of a sudden, I saw two cubs, and then momma come up. She must have spotted me, she made some sort of noise, and the cubs stopped coming towards me. They turned to my right and went down the point. She stayed right there until they were out of site and then she slowly started walking towards them. I didn't know what to think, it was only my second year of deer hunting and first-time seeing bears!!! That one Jerod filmed sure caught scent of something it didn't like!! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

Sometimes maybe even 2 in one trip, but there have been years that we didn't see any, but our cameras that are up there let us know they are around. They are beautiful to watch, from a distance!! It's 70 degrees and I am stuck out here in Southern California. I would trade places with you in a heartbeat! Been over 10 years since I have had the pleasure to be hunting the mountains of West Virginia. Keep at it for us that can't be there. Also , I never found any footwear to keep your feet warm when sitting all day in those real cold conditions.

      Dennis, I wish it was 70 here right now. The temperature right now at almost 10PM EST is 18 degrees!!!! Today it only got to about 29 degrees!! I am getting too old for these cold temperatures, especially during rifle season. It has been decades since we have had temperatures like that during rifle season! Thanks for watching and commenting. Quick bear story. I was up South Fork Cherry one evening as the sun was setting, and I was catching fish left and right. All of a sudden, I got the heebie-jeebies, and the hair on the back of my neck was standing up, and I heard sticks breaking. I knew exactly what it was before I even turned around. That damn bear was coming straight down the side of the mountain heading for my truck where he was either after my jar of peanut butter or something I don't know. But what I do know is I got the hell out of there as quick as I could. True story!

LOL Glenn, I appreciate the comment, got to have something to hold those cameras. It does make it rough carrying the extra gear with us so we can video, especially when you have the mile walk that is pretty much all up hill. Thanks. We have done both, get there before light, stay till last shooting light, really it is 50-50 on that. Jerod and I have both taken our deer hours after daylight and hours before sunset. I have jumped more deer going in before daylight than I have ever seen getting there that early. The biggest issue now is that mother nature is dropping everything in the path leading up the mountain. Back about 7 or 8 years ago, we went up and cleared a good walking path up that old, abandoned logging road. Since then, there are probably a dozen trees that have fallen across the trail, you either have to climb over or crawl under, not to mention the laurel has grown back into the path as well. There is really only one way up and down that mountain, and again, mother nature is trying to close the door. It makes it dangerous coming out at dark or even going up in the dark, even with a headlamp. This is mountainous area and no easy way to get up to the top where we like to hunt. Jerod and I may end up needing to find a new area up there in the National Forest to hunt here in the near future. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

    • @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures
      @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures  17 днів тому +1

      Thanks, Brian!! We usually see bears every year we are there. I have been climbing up and down that mountain for over 40 years, and it keeps getting harder and harder. Especially with mother nature trying to reclaim it by laurel growing across the old logging road, and trees falling across it. Back in March of 2018, Jerod had gotten a Borel 21-inch folding saw, and we went to the mountain, and between him, me, Big Al and his son AJ we started clearing the trail. We spent a good part of the day up there. Now of course we couldn't cut out the real big trees out, but we trimmed back the laurel and got a lot of the limbs and smaller trees cleared out. Now 6 years later mother nature has grown back and dropped more stuff. It wouldn't be bad if there was another way to get up there without going straight up!! We will have to look into those, Brian. We usually carry an extra pair of wool socks with us to change out. By the time you get up that mountain, your feet have sweated, and the inside of your boots are damp. It does help to change, but who likes taking their boots off to change socks when your in the woods. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

I guess I need to get her to make us some alpaca socks!! That stuff is a lot warmer than anything you can buy. Thanks for watching and commenting, Carl. Juddie

      @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures  20 днів тому +1

      Yes, it has, Lonnie!! Those sound like some awesome boots. Might have to do some investigating on them. Usually, we pack an extra pair of wool socks to change out after the mile hike up the mountain. Of course, by then the inside of the boots have gotten damp due to the feet sweating. What I have done in the past was the extra pair of socks and if the feet got cold, get up and do a little still hunting just to get the blood circulation going. Thanks for watching and commenting. Jerod try a heavy insulated boot. I used to struggle with cold in the feet until I spent the money on a 1000g thinsulate Irish setter boots and wool socks.

    • @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures
      @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures  21 день тому

      We have tried it all but just doesn't seem like we can find the right stuff. We both have had 1000-gram thinsulate rubber boots and leather boots. Of course, we haven't used Irish Setter boots, that might be something Jerod and I both need to look into. The one thing that I have found that helps, but it is a pain to do when out there hunting, is to take an extra pair of socks and change them when we get up on the mountain. That mile walk, all up hill, causes you to really sweat. That is why a lot of times you will see us with hardly anything heavy on our upper body. We pack that in to put on after we start to cool down from the walk. Now this year, you had to wear it going up because of how cold it was this year. We haven't seen temperatures like that in years, maybe even decades. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

      Dan, we generally will se a bear every year we are up there. Now there has been times we haven't. Dan, I think Jerod was using his new cellphone to video the bear. Of course, you know we have the Canon Vixia cameras mounted on our tripods, and we use GoPro's (that may change now), and of course our cellphones. I have found a camera that looks like a GoPro, but the reviews I have watched and the specs the company has out, the camera will film up to 120 or 150 minutes at temperatures a low as -4 degrees F!!! Some of these reviews showed guys putting in their freezer recording, with their freezer set to 0 degrees. I will be doing a review on it soon. I ordered it this weekend and it should be here this week. I have several of those power banks, Dan, but I forgot to pack the cable for the GoPro into my backpack. • @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures
      @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures  20 днів тому

      Yes, it’s true! It seems like we always have a mix of good and bad luck, and those cold feet are always a struggle. We usually see bears when up there in the National Forest. Some years we may not see them but our trail cameras that we leave out year round show us they are there. We have actually had two cameras destroyed by bears, that is why I make steel boxes to put our cameras in. As for heated socks, I really don't know, to me those are more a gimmick that being useful. I sure would not want to wear them walking the mile up hill to where we hunt. I would have to wear regular socks, take them off once I was on top, and then put them on. Then I would worry about the moisture that was already in the boot from my feet sweating during the walk up the mountain. Also, would the battery last 10 hours??? Then, you have to have a way to recharge them through the night. I don't ever see myself buying heated socks. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie
