Natalie is the best! 🥰
Thank you for your entertaining and informative video. I learned a lot about spirea
Yay! I'm so glad you found this video helpful 🤗 Thanks so much for the kind feedback! ☺
This was deep, yet informative. Yes, all plants have their medicinal properties.
I'm not sure why I'm hanging in here, when I need to be out in my garden! 😄
Hahahah! You're just doing a bit of research before you get out and at it! 😉☺
@@pwcolorchoice ☺️ True!
Planted a couple Double Doozies last fall. Anxiously awaiting summer to see how they do.
Yay! Double Play Doozie is such a great plant ☺
Spirea was my favorite shrub in my Illinois garden! I had 6 varieties and over 18 plants! Now that I live in north Texas, I have planted double play doozie (last fall) and so far it looks fabulous! I can’t wait to see how it’s blooms compare to my IL garden and how it stands up to TX heat this summer!
Wow!! That is so awesome! The variety of color they provide is so nice. You will definitely need to let us know how it compares to your Illinois garden this year! 🤗☀
Unless you were transferred, you couldn't take the COLD any longer! 😂 I don't blame you, but TX gets SO HOT. Culture Shock! ☺️ Enjoy your Spirea challenge!!
- from Chicagoland
@@ginafriend1690 haha, yes we were transferred but we have family down here so it’s good to be close to them. We moved from Chicagoland and I miss it so much! Yes, we had a lovely winter down here but I guarantee you have a lovelier summer up there! 🤣
I’m in Chicago, Illinois. Did you grow a Native variety? If so, which one?
@@gardenofshrubs5970 I can agree to that! Cheers! 😊
I agree with others, you are a great storyteller/teacher Natalie and I look forward to more videos from you.
Thank you so much! We will definitely be making more of these videos in the future ☺
Another great video! Very inspirational and since I'm in Wisconsin I have a long winter that I could be rooting and potting things up!
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed the video ☺
I love Spirea so much!!! Classic easy-care shrub. Maybe on the Rhododendron next for another strip mall fave?
They really are! That is a great idea! We will need to make a video on rhododendrons 🤗
Thanks Natalie!❤😊
Really enjoyed this video
Thank you so much! We wanted to make it fun but make sure it has all the information as well ☺
I love my magic carpet spirea so much!
Spirea are such solid plants and have such diverse foliage coloring, they're great! 🤗
Should I cut back my double play spirea in the spring before it leafs out ?
Pruning isn’t necessary for the plant’s health, but for appearances’ sake you can shape it in early spring. If desired, you can also give it a light trim after its first flush of flowers to promote colorful new growth. 🙂
Very informative video! Bridal wreath spirea, what does "give it a good prune after it flowers" mean? Shear it back?
So glad you enjoyed the video! Bridal Wreath spirea will benefit from a rejuvenation prune when it's getting a bit leggy, so you can cut it almost to the ground to help encourage more healthy new growth 🙂
Great video!
Thanks so much! ☺
Thanks, Rick!
I planted a PW Double Play Artisan Spirea. How do I avoid getting Powdery mildew on the new leaves or best natural approach of treatment?
Powdery mildew is more likely to occur in humid areas that don't have good air circulation, avoid planting plants too closely to one another, overhead watering can also increase the risk of powdery mildew. Because it is a fungus, removing infected leaves and cleaning up the fallen ones around the plant can help to minimize it.
I just planted a Double Play Doozie spirea, and it seems it doesn't like being transplanted from the pot. The blooms are turning brown and it's late spring. I dead headed them and I really hope the blooms come back and the plant doesn't fade out.
Double Play Doozie is a reblooming spirea so as it gets established more in its new home, you should see some of those later blooms! How does the foliage on the plant look?
@@pwcolorchoice The foliage seems okay, not fading out at all.
@@commodityjane Okay great! I'd give it some more time to get established, if you notice it having any issues moving forward please don't hesitate to reach out!
@@pwcolorchoice Thanks for your kind response!
Hello. I ordered 2 Candy Corn Spirea plants and they were left outside in 6B zone in lots of rain recently
The leaves are drying. My property is kind-of rocky. Can I plant in a Grow Bag and should I cover for Winter? Hope I get an answer. I also purchased a Lorapedulim to accompany
Most likely, the plant is simply going dormant due to the time of year, and that's completely normal. If you'd like to reach out to us here with some photos, that would help us give you the very best advice. If you are in USDA zone 6b, the loropetalum will probably not survive winter outdoors, so I would suggest trying to overwinter that in a cool, bright spot indoors with good air circulation. It still may not survive, as this will be a stressful situation for it, but it will have a better chance than being outdoors.

Help, I m trying to grow double play red spires and they completely dying. Steady plent 3 of them and same results. Any advice? Thanks.

I love my spirea
🤗🥰
🐝Double play doozy doesn’t set seeds!? What about the pollen? With the concerns about bees health pollen count has become critical. The more hybridized plants are becoming the less pollen they have. What does it do then relating to pollen when they’re not setting seeds? No pollen is my guess. Please consider pollen when selecting your spirea and other lovelies. 🐝🐝 I live my spirea and am selecting more. Thanks for the well done vid!
So glad you enjoyed the video! ☺
Whether or not a plant sets seed, and if that seed is viable if it does set - is a function of the female portions of a plant's reproductive system. Since pollen is the male gametophyte of a plant, its presence has no bearing on a plant's sterility. So pollen and nectar can both be abundant in a flower but it would be considered sterile because no seed develops from pollination.
Is May Bush one type 😅 good video 😊
Thanks so much! Yes May Bush is a Spiraea cantoniensis ‘Lanceata’ ☺
Thank you
@@kaizen_oils9805 Always happy to help ☺
Does anyone know if this plant will come back as (excessive) multiple individual shoots if its cut completely to the ground?
It will come back as multiple shoots - I don't think they're likely to be excessive, but it would depend on the age of the plant, as well as how much water and nutrients it receives.
Good video, but ai am trying to find out what happened to the spireas
Can you explain what you mean by "what happened to the spireas?" please? ☺
So sorry, I mistaken your video with another.
@@mannysmith1962 No problem at all! ☺
I had to pull mine out. Every year they would just get smothered with aphids. Any suggestions?
That can be very annoying! The best method for helping with this is to use gardening gloves and your hose to wash off the aphids, using your hands to rub the little buggers off the foliage.
Can you please make cultivars from the Native species? I try to only buy Native.
Hi there! Our Glow Girl spirea is a Native variety ☺www.mypwcolorchoices.com/product/glow-girl-birchleaf-spirea/
