Nothing says Christmas like watching the 2nd best Nuzlocker (next to Alpharad because UA-cam said so), reacting to my favorite white guy! Happy Holidays, everyone!
I have personally never lost a mon to grinding. Only to random ass trainers because I had to sack for a pivot. I'm at a point where I have too much going on to manually grind and these challenges are supposed to be fun for the nuzlocker like you have said in this video. I have never seen the problem of someone trying to save time with candies.
10:34 My garganacl has sturdy,a nature that up it defense, and also has hammer arm, earthquake and salt cure. Needless to say,she was my first mon to be lv 100 and was sweeping anything that came my way. Everyone talks about skeledirge but Nacli's line is BROKEN AF
I like at the start, it was blind as the day they started the nuzloke was when day the game was released, and I think the play though was mostly blind and it was enjoyable to watch (especially when the game crashed during the water gym and the accidental egg)
Oh, Iono. Violet was my first-ever nuzlocke, and at first, while I still used items, I tried to not overlevel for the battles, and that cost me for the Iono fight. Because of this, I didn't evolve the Sandile that I caught in the Asado Desert. So, due to Iono's Mismagius constantly getting the boost from Charge Beam, I lost my Spidops (my second 'Mon, since I switched up the encounter for Poco Path), my pre-mentioned Sandile, and my Lycanroc (don't know if it was a mistake going with Midnight Lycanroc, but whatever). On the plus side, it got me VERY attached to the shiny Hariyama who remained one of my best Pokemon in the run, since she managed to survive and beat that thing. After that, I didn't care as much about overleveling.
In the one time when gerber said he’d refuse to use shed tail in that nemona fight, shed tail wouldn’t have worked anyways cause torch song is a sound based moved so it would have bypassed the sub.
Happy Holidays, Jan! Enjoy your winter time and can't wait to see your reaction to season 3 of Friendlocke. One of my favourites, but just as infuriating (in a good way).

I remember watching the first stream, and then i never got any notifications for other streams so i just assumed they cancelled it. Nice to see its a full season again.
The rant about the rare candies is so true. People like Verlis who use the "well the challenge is part of the grind" just reveal that they have no business talking about nuzlockes. The challenge comes from the fights and pokemon availability, it always has. To pretend that you need to make grinding inherently difficult or that you're not allowed to skip the mindless grinding for literal days for it to be a legit nuzlocke is just so delusional.
41:20 I think the feature's cool, I just wish it had a way to turn off, doing the Blueberry League fights in post-dlc and randomly winning to a crit or survive is kinda bleh, but in regular battles it's usually fine xD
To be fair big time wasters and lengthy segments were always kind of present in Pokémon, it's mostly notable in SV for frontloading the exposition and buildup in the beginning rather than interjecting it throughout. Gen 1's best route theme is exclusive to a side path with next to nothing in it, tons of forgettable trainers and inexplicable pole mazes Gen 2 has the entire Radio Tower segment of Team Rocket be an incredibly time consuming affair Gen 3's "too much water" segment with so little happening and stuff to see between Lilycove and the Pokémon League Gen 4 has you constantly run into side NPCs trying to sell you their new gimmick. The Pokétch campaign, the underground kit... and some other drawn out Team Galactic sequences
The difference is that in most of these cases, you actually play the game. You fight through team rocket, you surf and explore from Lilycove. In Scarlet and Violet, however, you press A. For an hour. That's it
It's not great for storytelling though. When you gradually introduce worldbuilding and plots throughout an experience, you can more seamlessly and creatively introduce things. It's boringly overwhelming to have expedition dumps before all the gameplay, and let that instance of exposition being main thing carrying the whole story.
I actually tried this myself. I did a hardcore nuzlocke with the rule that I can only use Pokémon that are NU or lower on Smogon (and no Tera). Kind of an arbitrary rule, but I found it worked well enough. It’s been a really fun run and a great level of difficulty for me! Would recommend! My best Pokémon have definitely been Bruxish, Hariyama, and Florges, and it’s been fun getting to use so many mons I’d normally pass over. Even spidops has been decent with access to counter for good damage on the team star revavrooms and sticky web in the late game
3:50 The happy part when I decided to do reverse order nuzlocke for my first playthrough and my starter turned out to be the most broken Pokemon ever, that pretty much could have won all my fights in this game, if not for the fact that I actively decided to use more Pokemon as I progressed (and I did find Shiny Glimmet when going to Psychic gym and suprisingly have not let it Self-Destruct on me catching it in regular Ball, so I had to use it - after I actually learned how lucky I was). Kinda annoyed I didn't check which route is the hardest, because I probably wouldn't defeat Team Star or the Titans as easily as I did with Grusha. Winning with major level disadvantage. 4:20 To be fair they did also have a lot more time for this. From trailers, to game leaking week before release for the emus. Obviously there were some day 1 arts for the reveals. But for the actual premiere, we had enough time to get all those hundreds upon thousands art pieces. And to be fair Meowscarada had it easy. Both Professors though? That was rough. 25:10 The sad part is that they never learned you can bulk-buy drinks at the school cafeteria. 1:16:10 Ok but nuzlocking the DLCs is actually cute. At least that got some better touch. Steps by steps we are reaching potentially good Pokemon game 😂
I find it funny how you didn't even once mention what, or rather who, the spidops was named after. It even seemed once like you intentionally dodged saying their name. Does he know?
@@menderbug1 no spidops is its species name, he meant the nickname, which was vriska, who is a homestuck reference, something that once shooked the internets
I agree with the candy using argument. To avoid the grind, I use pokemon in raids and also don't count raid deaths because I could always just train on random low-level pokemon for 10 hours to get one pokemon leveled up without risk, this just speeds it up, especially as when you exit the raid den, your pokemon is at 1 hp still, so it didnt die
24:28 i realized through this nuzlocke that this gym leaders wallet is 1. Not a water type, and 2. Not the pokemon he terastalizes into water type or even like… interacts with, so i guess he just bought it at a raffle or something? I feel like it could be utilized for his character design alot better, like for instance, if they did this with larry i could see his wallet being a flying type pokemon because that’s what he uses in the elite 4 and that would be a nice hint to that
I do want to see you try this with some of the other nuzlockers, either all taking it seriously in a hard game or with people working against you/not caring in an easy game
As far as grinding in Nuzlockes go, for me I grind at the most recent route/area I have access to. Quicker than going back to a low-level area, even if it's higher risk.
I've never felt more validated then when you were losing it over Gerber surviving all of his destruction. I love Gerber so much but if not for his refusal to take risks or sack to Nemona, not to mention his ridiculous play with Jay, this run would have been so much less stressful and so many people would have survived
I unironically made a really hard nuzlocke of this game, all i had to do was ban half of all the mons in this game. Including skelidurge and like so many other broken mons. Caused me to come up with some super fun strats like sweeping ryme with terra dark terra blast arboliva. Stalling Larry with levitate haunter and confuse ray.
7:18 For anyone wondering, he said "Force - Kinning" Kinning is when you see yourself in a fictional character and like to try to act like that fictional character The joke was Salty is forcing a kin, in this case the name Pastey, onto Pastey
the pattern i noticed for my own nuzlockes was that I kept getting random mons killed early on against wild pokemon, and that taught me to figure out the rare candy code, so use rare candies

Biggest mistake of this run was not the weird ghost gym "strat" but letting the rival have the fire starter.
10:34
My garganacl has sturdy,a nature that up it defense, and also has hammer arm, earthquake and salt cure. Needless to say,she was my first mon to be lv 100 and was sweeping anything that came my way. Everyone talks about skeledirge but Nacli's line is BROKEN AF
32:15 "He's doing great, the only ones who can screw him over are his friends." Oh, the dramatic irony. It hurts.

To be completely honest, Metronome could have picked Guilliotine and landed the hit.
👍
Pchal seeing the smosh bit out of context is so funny.
What was the context?
@@PixelRockett they joked about smosh after salty mentioned Shayne Topp but while editing the videos Ian and Anthony bought the channel reuniting them after years of radio silence.
Everytime he talks up one of Salty’s pokemon and say how strong they are, I have this immediate response in my head that goes “Well, you’re gonna love how they lose that pokemon”
LMAO. him paying them to not evolve is hilarious. hope it becomes a thing
More importantly, nuzlockes are about the content, and grinding is boring as fuck
ALSO! You can switch Pokemon from the boxes between fights during the E4.
"I don't do shootouts go fuck yourself" classic Jan you're a real one for that
41:20 I think the feature's cool, I just wish it had a way to turn off, doing the Blueberry League fights in post-dlc and randomly winning to a crit or survive is kinda bleh, but in regular battles it's usually fine xD
To be fair big time wasters and lengthy segments were always kind of present in Pokémon, it's mostly notable in SV for frontloading the exposition and buildup in the beginning rather than interjecting it throughout.
Gen 1's best route theme is exclusive to a side path with next to nothing in it, tons of forgettable trainers and inexplicable pole mazes
Gen 2 has the entire Radio Tower segment of Team Rocket be an incredibly time consuming affair
Gen 3's "too much water" segment with so little happening and stuff to see between Lilycove and the Pokémon League
Gen 4 has you constantly run into side NPCs trying to sell you their new gimmick.
Nuzwlocke of S/V but with only bad/weak mons would be fun with how OP mons are in the game
Even spidops has been decent with access to counter for good damage on the team star revavrooms and sticky web in the late game
smogon rankings are not the same...@@combro7096
YES. I have been waiting for this since it came out, it's like I'm getting to watch it again, but remixed. Thank yooooooou, Jan!
It was all pure chaos, which definitely made it the best Friendlocke season so far.
I guess he just didn't want to fight the homestuck
I thought it was just named after "Spider" and "special ops"
@@menderbug1 no spidops is its species name, he meant the nickname, which was vriska, who is a homestuck reference, something that once shooked the internets
I agree with the candy using argument. To avoid the grind, I use pokemon in raids and also don't count raid deaths because I could always just train on random low-level pokemon for 10 hours to get one pokemon leveled up without risk, this just speeds it up, especially as when you exit the raid den, your pokemon is at 1 hp still, so it didnt die
7:00
Wait, didn't Jan himself use Clodsire? I think it was in his "no deaths" gen 9 attempt, wasn't it?
Who would possibly know that, neeeerd.
no, he duoed it with Cloyster and Skeledirge
24:28 i realized through this nuzlocke that this gym leaders wallet is 1. Not a water type, and 2. Not the pokemon he terastalizes into water type or even like… interacts with, so i guess he just bought it at a raffle or something? I feel like it could be utilized for his character design alot better, like for instance, if they did this with larry i could see his wallet being a flying type pokemon because that’s what he uses in the elite 4 and that would be a nice hint to that
1:06:28 Bro Gerber broke the Onix record for worst moment in pokemon nuzlocke history...even Jan confirmed it was bad XD
The green screen background is actually so funny lmao
Watching this season live was something else between Mankey anger point and just the Ryme fight.
Based friendlock shot call. I see your bet jan and i'm declaring myself a believer in the scuff
"How did I buily my hole career by beeing the nerd emoji?"
That's the real question to be asked
If he changed Espathras nature with a mint it would’ve live it had a spa lowering nature
Jan: That's a pretty good Pokemon!
Nuzlocke RNG: Yeah, about that...
I do want to see you try this with some of the other nuzlockers, either all taking it seriously in a hard game or with people working against you/not caring in an easy game
hey jan, cooler jahresabschluss! danke für deine videos. immer wieder geil anzuschauen
Rare candies are a godsend even in normal playthroughs, grinding just isn't fun imo
As far as grinding in Nuzlockes go, for me I grind at the most recent route/area I have access to. Quicker than going back to a low-level area, even if it's higher risk.
I dont know if you noticed
but during the anime intro, gerber was shown with the villains
3:03 its gonna be reaaaaaal hard to win a friendlocke with just one pokemon.
7 Pokémon total…
Yeah… we’re gonna need to optimise.
Jan you should join the next friendlocke but before every session get absolutely wasted
you know its the end of the month when jan uploads with a sponsor in the video
I'm glad they had fun with their run. Personally, I prefer a lose where I had fun over a win where I didn't have fun.
the gerber slander is wild 😭
The fact that vriska single-handedly changed your mind on spidops makes all us homestuck fans very happy ::::)
not only has vriska done nothing wrong, shes done everything right ::::)
21:42 That friendly rivalry at its finest towards Alpharad, Lol
11:15 jan casually trying to sabotage salty’s run
7:18 For anyone wondering, he said "Force - Kinning"
Kinning is when you see yourself in a fictional character and like to try to act like that fictional character
The joke was Salty is forcing a kin, in this case the name Pastey, onto Pastey
The verbal version of shitty kerning
"The big spenders are always the ones who smoke the most crack"
You don't say....
Elon Musk on his way to drain a crack cartel
the pattern i noticed for my own nuzlockes was that I kept getting random mons killed early on against wild pokemon, and that taught me to figure out the rare candy code, so use rare candies
I literally lost my primeape to the same greedent😭 the flashbacks and raaaaage🥴
