Amazing video! Thanks so much for sharing in such details all this information. The harsh reality of grading though is like you said, the difference between one grader giving your card a 9 or 10 is subjective. For all you know, that grader could be having a bad or extra picky day when he reviews your card, and that alone could deter what final grade you get. It's pretty unfair and sucks when you really think about it.
Been contemplating sending alot of my cards for awhile never played straight put into a sleeve binder open very carefully and only held by the edges I wore gloves while removing from thier packaging and didn't spend tike checking them out until after they were placed in the binder. The one I really want to get graded is a 1st edition ghost rare black rose dragon which I got a bullet proof container with screws in all 4 corners that I carefully placed in the center before lowering the glass onto the card and gently screwing it down its been in the case for probably almost 6 years now and have just been sitting on my bookshelf im wondering what grade it would get all I know is with ghost rares they are super white and silver so scratches seem to pop-up out of nowhere for absolutely no reason could even be scratched by sliding against another card when being packed. I'll check it out when I get home I have a very bright light that can change colors and shades of color to hopefully inspect it very thoroughly. Only thing is I can't tell what that card is worth because websites might say oh its worth 150 dollars but when you click and read the description it's talkijg about an unlimited edition but showing a photo of a 1st edition. Then there's collectors selling it for thousands of dollars with psa graded of 5 to 7 I think I saw 1 that was an 8 or 9 going for 10k lol.
damn....you went in DEEP on the subject haha awesome! Although I would not use 1st edition Injection Fairy Lily as an example lol, she's too valuable! T_ T lol but all your cards are kept very clean they look so mint!
Thanks! And I guess the point was just to show that if you have the right setup and experience, it's safe to handle even more valuable cards unsleeved haha
Very informative this video man! , I do have a question regarding the wax level on the back, base on your experience this is a key factor on the card?, I do have few cards especially from BPT tins that are flawless in edges, centering an everything, except that they have a certain amount of waxing on the backside. Greetings
Thank you! Waxing can unfortunately change the grade quite a lot yes. BPT cards very often have quite ugly wax scuffs on the back as a result of the way they were packaged, and other sets like SOD-FET suffer a lot too. The only thing I can suggest is that BGS will grade those kinds of cards slightly better than PSA, since if the rest of the card is perfect then the centering/edges/corners subgrades will bring up the overall grade even if the surface subgrade scores less well. Hope that helps!
@@Althery Unfortunately there aren't really any options for submitting to BGS from the UK yet. It is possible to send directly to them though, and the only duty you have to pay is on the grading fees (not the value of the cards) when the sub is shipped back
Thank you! And yes that's right, residue from your fingers is the main thing to avoid. Other damage is possible too though like fingernail indents if you're not careful, so overall it's just much safer to handle a card by the edges
also, am a newbie to psa grading. What if I think that the card could've been scored higher? After receiving the PSA grade with the case, could I remove the case and send it in again? TIA!
just a heads up. i know this is 4 years late but your two headed thunder dragon is a fake. the reverse surface is too red compared to others. that's a very common sign of a fake. (assuming you didn't know)
Good question! I've never been a huge fan of lily and my best wavy bewd is an 8.5 at the moment so I'd probably pick the bewd. But most of the wavy 10s out there are extremely questionable grades and if it was gonna be another one of those, I guess I'd just take the lily lol
@@Schloast thats interesting that you mention "questionable". i noticed that low psa grade numbers (sub 4 million) are graded way too good for the actual look of the card. i bought (and returned) a psa 9 dmoc 1st ed with 5+ foil scratches, horrible corners that looked like someone played ghe card his whole childhood with no sleeves.
@@bananajoe69420 yep unfortunately that's how it is. Even now there are shocking 10s being graded by PSA (eg the most recent gaia the dragon champion to grade a 10 had significant front edge wear), and on the other side of things some gem-worthy cards are randomly coming back as 5s and 6s. Especially with the damage they are getting on cards as well I think it is better to just not send at the moment, or maybe send to beckett instead
So if a yugioh has 20+ micro scratchs on the back that cluster nearer to the bottom wud that knock it to an 8 or 9 in ur educated opinion? These scratches r very small and r barely on the surface. They can only be seen under a specific angle and amount of light. They r ever so slightly there.
Hi there! It's very hard to say honestly without seeing the card in question. A card can still be a gem with a few light scratches on the back, but it really depends how many there are and how bg they are. Feel free to DM me pics on instagram (my account is @schloast) if you need more help!

Very accurate, agree with everything said here!

What would you rather have, a BGS Black Label Lily or a PSA 10 Wavy Blue eyes?

Schloast yeah I agree lol. I’ve turned down buying vintage YuGiOh PSA 10s on eBay after seeing more pictures with moderate edge-wear on them.
