I wonder if Motor Raid was included in the Yakuza spin-off called Judgment. If only someone would comment to let me know. But I don't think anyone will. :)
Yep 😂. Love me some model 2 gaming and Motor Raid was great in the arcade with the Manx TT style bikes. You also didn't mentioned the port of Gunblade NY to the Wii (of all consoles), alongside the sequel, LA Machine Gunss.
You are right about virtual-on,, the Xbox controller does it no justice. I find even the Dreamcast version, which does emulate well, controls god-awful with the use of only one thumbstick. The Dreamcast does have a twin stick controller but good luck at finding it or for a fair price😅 but still looking forward to hearing more about my SNES ASCIIpad in the intro.
Oh did included both judgment and lost judgment did included motor raid while fighting viper included judgment but replaced with sonic the fighters in lost judgment
Virtua Formula was made for the pneumatic Full Motion Cockpit version. It does not have 16:9 because it used a 50" 4:3 Rear Projection TV for each Player. Most were later converted to Indy Formula (Upgraded Indy 500 for this cab) Sadly most were parted out in the early 2000s and eventually retired and replaced with the Super Deluxe Outrun 2 (Worked for Sega for a while in their Arcade Division)
@justin43098 Yep, Had to move an Indy Formula into a new Gameworks once, thankfully they had started building the locations with Air Lines throughout the building hooked to a huge Main Compressor in a sound deadened room to service it so all Pneumatic moving games did not need a separate and loud Compressor on the floor.
That’s fascinating! I used to visit a large arcade in São Paulo, Brazil, that had 8 of these massive Indy 500 machines - and never understood why the cars had such different colors or the decals didn’t seem to match the game until I learned that they were likely converts from Virtua Formula. Sadly by the mid 2000s most of the pneumatics stopped working and they were eventually retired - by Outrun 2 SDX machines, of all things. These took up a lot less space, but the screens weren’t as impressive as the original rear projection ones. I can still hear the “DRIVER CHANGE!!” yell from O2SDX in my head, haha.
I'm really sad new generations won't have the arcade experience we had. Playing arcade games with graphics we could never dream of having at home was incredible. Recently I managed to run the Model 2 emulator or 4 PCs connected to LAN and play Daytona USA with 4 steering wheels, it was a BLAST for the hole family!
Man, Daytona USA is so much fun playing it in Manual, the way you drift by turning the wheel fast and then counter it on another direction while gear changing to Gear 1 and the Gear 3 & Gear 4 couple of times.. When you pulled it off, you'd feel like a badass.. so satisfying
The arcade with gear stick is definitely the way to play Daytona USA, playing it on console while is still fun, you definitely lose some of the magic by playing it with gamepad
The Model 2's graphics were AMAZING at the time. It is wild just how advanced Sega was when it came to arcade hardware. The Model 2 was great but the Model 3 is by far my favorite. Model 3 games running on an emulator upscaled to 1080p+ still look great even today. I'm really hoping the next episode will be on the Model 3!
In this case, it was actually Lockheed Martin who was really advanced. The system is based off technology used in military simulators at the time. But Sega still gets a huge amount of credit here for having the creativity to think of licensing/adapting that for an arcade cabinet AND having the gall to charge like $20,000 per cabinet for Daytona USA.
I love me some Model 1 and Model 2 games. Yeah, I had played a few combat flight/space sims (especially loved those from Microprose) and had played arcade Hard Drivin' once, but Virtua Racing was a whole 'nother level of cool. And, then I fell absolutely in love with Virtua Fighter. And, then Model 2 games were just that much more amazing. Daytona was so, so much pure, raw fun. The same for Sega Rally, VF2, etc. Not Sega model 1/2 related, but I do love the quick cameo from Rapid River in the Sega Water Ski footage. My friend was absolutely obsessed with the only cab of that we had of that around me at the time. I didn't quite love it like he did, but it was certainly a pretty neat cab. That was the first, last, and only cabinet of that I've ran into. It'd be cool to play that again.
Back in the nineties, I worked for Toshiba UK LTD. I'm based in Plymouth UK. Part of my work was on the assembly line for Toshiba Rear Projection big screen TVs, which were a thing before cheap big screen plasma, and finally LCD screens came along..I mention it because we used to build the Sega Arcade screens for UK arcades. We had a machine set up as a tech demo on the production line, which showed Virtua Racer when I started, and was changed to Sega Rally by the time I left.
Man i love these games, i wish sega would re-release these instead of re-releasing columns, Sonic, Shinobi 3, Streets of Rage, etc, you know the usual ones, for the 1000000000000000000th time
For Virtual On just use Model 2 Emulator 0.9 and you'll be happy again. Dual joystick support is limited in the last (1.1a) version of the emulator because it doesn't accept 2 inputs simultaneously
That style has gained a lot of popularity lately. Hotshot Racing is a great example, resembling Virtua Racing, but with shadow effects and more polygons.
90s Sega games had such a vibe. Those Sega blue skies will forever hold a special place in my heart. The funny part is, I played very few of these back in the day, but nonetheless, they still feel magical. Arcades were my happy place, and just like my happiness, they seem to have gone away forever.
What I loved about that hardware was the texture filtering, the emulation looked point-sampled (ps1 style) but I remember Model 2 having Gaussian filtration, as found on old flight simulator hardware. Non of that bi-linear stuff. :)
a lot of these games are more about the arcade experience, the physical presence of the machines, the unique control set ups and atmosphere more than the games themselves which are still pretty good
This is why I build myself an arcade a few years ago instead of emulating it on the TV sitting on the couch and play with a pad. Ok not original but I tried to emulate the feel a little 😂
It's historical to note that Virtua Formula was designed with 8 players with motion controlled cockpits. There were at least two arcades in the world that purchased this option from Sega to create setups that occupied an entire room.
Honestly was curious to ask, have you ever done a vid talking about Vid Kidz? I've been curious about the hardware that powers games like Blaster and Robotron, in that old Williams way.

I love that you included a supergun tutorial at the end for people who want to play on a real pcb. The only things people should know are that many games have free play settings, or you can add an "insert coin" button rather than needing quarters on-hand. I use 1" 4-hole white buttons you can easily find at Wal-Mart in the craft department.
I still recall seeing Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter in the arcades for the first time. Nothing else looked like them. And that huge Virtua Racing Cabinet, the sound blew your socks off and you couldn't resist pressing those multi-coloured view buttons. Soooo... blue! And green.... AND RED!!!
I wanna point out that Motor Raid does infact have a home port however it was only an emulated version of it in Judgment and its sequel Lost Judgment as a game you could play in the ingame arcades. Indy 500 also has a conversion of it on the R-Zone which I'm sure is very much an arcade perfect port of it on the headache inducing red and black glorified calculator.
Seeing the Virtua Fighter cabinet for the first time is one of the very few arcade room memories I can still recall. A couple others are seeing/playing Space Invaders, Simpsons Pinball, and Dragon's Lair, so I hold it in high esteem. The cabinet was so shiny and futuristic looking!
Sega net merc can actually kind of be "played" in MAME by messing with the dip switch settings. You have to turn on infinite health to make it through but it is enough to be able to see the game if not play it as intended.
Just glad to see Virtual On get some love. I had the PC port back in the day which actually DID support using tank style controls if your keyboard could keep up.
My local bowling alley growing up had Virtua On in their lil arcade and it was the most expansive game in there to play but oh man was it sweet. Loved playing that and The Simpsons arcade game there back in the day.
Top skater was awesome. Playing it at the Florence mail back in the late 90 brings back memories. It was loud in the arcade trying to do all the tricks on the built in skateboard.

"Hard to underestimate"? The arcade cabinets are kept at the *Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, the only video game on permanent display.* *VF was recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for contributions in the field of Art and Entertainment,* and became a part of the *Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology Innovation* in 1998. It is literally *History,* it's so cool and it's not "underestimated" if you ignore History. Stop using that word improperly and research five minutes before thinking of using it.

My buddy and I dropped a mint on Top Skater at Time Out arcade at the Danbury Fair Mall. The machine was amazing, you had to really step on the board hard to do kick flips etc and it was ungodly loud when doing so. Can’t imagine maintaining something like that.
Such great memories, used to love top skater, had a cabinet over here in europe(btw the "S" rated tricks were if you jumped right at the tipmost of the ramps) it was a phisical skateboard with the buttons as the nose and tail and you had to tilt to turn and press buttons (fun mess) as you rode it inside a plastic dome with side handles to help balance. Had a great time reminiscing. Thanks Joe :)
Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 (& Virtua Cop) were my go to games in the arcade at that time. Virtua Fighter 2 still my favorite soundtrack of all time.
Just came to say that Motor Raid was actually recently ported home as an arcade machine found in arcades in the Yakuza spinoff Judgement. Great video as always!
I always look forward to your outro skits. They’ve consistently been one of the things I look forward to every upload. Thanks for such hard work and dedication to retro gaming Joe.
I love these videos so much because despite a long, long history of gaming I always find games here that I've never heard of and discovering a good retro game for the first time is like finding treasure.
@@GameSack if you win each time you do 4. if you lose you only do 3. the three you do varies depending on your placing. there are 6 separate courses in total.
I wonder how many games the dev team added to the arcade in game. I think it is pretty cool that the tradition continues. Since Shenmue, the arcade always contains amazing titles to play whenever you want.
I used to play a lot of Motor Raid at the local theater, really fun and unique game. And no, it's far from ugly, I think they nailed it with the aesthetic
Great video! Loved the way Model 2 games looked. The graphics and frame rates were so snappy and smooth. Also, the fact that the games were in medium resolution (EGA in arcade terms) made them POP!
Great video, thanks. For those that are curious Gunblade NY was ported to the Wii some 15 years after release together with its Model 3 sequel, LA Machine Guns. Both are quite good fun to play with the zapper.
Really liked Manx TT in the arcades, you sat on a bike and controlled it by tilting the bike. In front of you was a huge plasma (maybe?) screen and speakers.
Hey Joe Mykey (Mikey) here thanks so much for always sharing our childhood experiences through gaming. Video Games really saved my life and kept me from trouble and jail. I don’t care how much of a geek / nerd I am because I’m proud to be a Hardcore Gamer. SEGA SNK TREASURE ATLUS Squaresoft Enix and Nintendo will always have my love especially SEGA and SNK❤. 80s/90s mall arcades music pizza and endless quarters is the life living in a vapor wave synth dream now. 😊
Sega ported some of these to Windows 95. My favorite of the bunch was Virtua Cop 2, which they renamed Virtua *Squad* 2. Not sure why. Its the same great game though, and playing with a mouse really is the next best thing to a light gun.
I got my Model 1 fix from the Sega 32X. Star Wars Arcade, Virtua Fighter, and Virtua Racing Deluxe were quite good ports. That's cool your Mother worked for what will be apart of Lockheed Martin. The company that helped in the creation of the Sega Model 2.
If you ever get a chance to play Top Skater on the real hardware, don't even hesitate. Back in the day it was among the most expensive games in the arcade. I sunk a lot of money in that baby, but the feeling was unparalelled. There was another one too, that came out a little bit before Top Skater, but I can not remember the name of it. It was a snowboarding game. Another one that got many of my quarters. Thanks for the video and the memories. :)
i'm so glad 16-bit and quake style games are being brought back and resurging again but for the love of gaming i would love some model 1 or 2 type looking games coming back. la and ny machine guns and virtua on are timeless looks.
Sega Touring Car Championship is a definite hard game. The developer tried to add realistic elements of real life cars into the game so that's why the handling is awkward for starters. The game requires lot of replayability to eventually master it. It may turn some away but i really enjoyed the game along with the Saturn port. The soundtracks are bangers! It must be played with steering wheel for the arcade version while Saturn version requires 3D Pad
Pretty sure the game is perfectly emulated on Xbox 360/Xbox One (Japanese digital marketplace) and on PS4 (also Japanese digital marketplace). Which would be better than the Saturn version if you could hook up twinsticks.

Sega Touring Car Championship's sound effects have always been buggy in emulation, playing way louder than they're supposed to. The game is still incredibly sensitive when it comes to steering though, I have no idea why it was released in the way it was. It's a shame too, as the eurodance soundtrack is one of the best racing game soundtracks of all time.
A great look at games that were my go to during the mid to late 90s. So many hours put into Wing War and Virtual On, Sega really knew how to bring it. While I would dabble in Virtual Fighter most of my fighting game quarters went to Tekken. "Hard to underestimate"? The arcade cabinets are kept at the *Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, the only video game on permanent display.*
*VF was recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for contributions in the field of Art and Entertainment,* and became a part of the *Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology Innovation* in 1998.
It is literally *History,* it's so cool and it's not "underestimated" if you ignore History. Stop using that word improperly and research five minutes before thinking of using it.
@@redacted2275 boy 👦 bet you are fun at parties. You do realise I was saying exactly what you were right? I.e. you couldn’t deny that VF was a new level in arcade gaming. Stop being a knob and try and understand what people are saying before trying to look clever
My buddy and I dropped a mint on Top Skater at Time Out arcade at the Danbury Fair Mall. The machine was amazing, you had to really step on the board hard to do kick flips etc and it was ungodly loud when doing so. Can’t imagine maintaining something like that.
Dead Or Alive 1 being made on the model 2 board makes the Saturn port being the best make sense now
Such great memories, used to love top skater, had a cabinet over here in europe(btw the "S" rated tricks were if you jumped right at the tipmost of the ramps) it was a phisical skateboard with the buttons as the nose and tail and you had to tilt to turn and press buttons (fun mess) as you rode it inside a plastic dome with side handles to help balance. Had a great time reminiscing. Thanks Joe :)

Daytona USA, The House Of The Dead and Sega Rally is the goat games of the Sega Model 2
SEGA need to release a compilation with all of these games on it.
Me and my little brother spent many hours on the Dreamcast port of Dynamite Cop. Fantastic game!
Virtual On music was fantastic
Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 (& Virtua Cop) were my go to games in the arcade at that time. Virtua Fighter 2 still my favorite soundtrack of all time.
I truly do appreciate the time stamps
Motor Raid is playable in Yakuza spin-off Judgement and Lost Judgement through Club Sega. I think the arcade emulation is done by M2.
Virtual On was a huge favorite. There was a moment at the local arcade where I would go there only to play that and Shadow Over Mystara. Good times❤❤❤
I love these videos so much because despite a long, long history of gaming I always find games here that I've never heard of and discovering a good retro game for the first time is like finding treasure.
13:30 HOTD got a release on the PS4/PS5 as well. It was just on sale for $8 last week, but of course I forgot to check my cart out in time.. Damn it!
There’s definitely more than 3 stages in motor raid!
I played it until it ended. I counted three.
@@GameSack if you win each time you do 4. if you lose you only do 3. the three you do varies depending on your placing. there are 6 separate courses in total.
I have wondered for years what would have been if the saturn had a just a little more model 2 DNA. Like the amblity to texture filter or z point
Lol I love the continuing jab at Green dog the game at the end there
Motor Raid sort of got a home port - or rather home emulation as it is included as a playable in-game arcade game in Judgement and Lost Judgement
Love the fact that Joe is using the master system joystick in the ending sketch.
Memories, yo.
You hit me in the feels, sir.
Good job
Fun faxt: The model 2 was The first Sega board using Lockheed Martin technology, to produce texture-mapped 3D polygon graphics
The best way to end a Saturday night.
ending a ten hour shift with this after dealing with rude coworkers is a relief
They drop at 7 am on Sunday mornings for me 🏴👍
8 AM here in Austria. Great video, love Sega.
The best way to spend time after Sunday breakfast.
And Europeans’ best way to start Saturday mornings 🇪🇺
Great video! Loved the way Model 2 games looked. The graphics and frame rates were so snappy and smooth. Also, the fact that the games were in medium resolution (EGA in arcade terms) made them POP!
It's been a long two weeks, but it is always great to tune in into another great episode of Game Sack!
It's hard to go a full two weeks without sack
I truly feel empty without a nice long sack episode.
My wife was so upset about the lack of Joe's sack last week that I had to empty my OWN just so she'd shut up!
it feels refreshing when Game Sack uploads
Always fun seeing a new Game Sack vid.
I've been watching for about ten years at this point.
Thanks, Joe (and Dave). ;)
Just make sure to get up stretch your legs every year or two or you’ll get stiff and groggy

Funny because it's true.
36 seconds old. Caught it hot off the presses!
It’s always shocking how good Virtua Fighter 2 looks. A generation and a half ahead of it’s time.
Great video, thanks. For those that are curious Gunblade NY was ported to the Wii some 15 years after release together with its Model 3 sequel, LA Machine Guns. Both are quite good fun to play with the zapper.
What Sega could do on the Model 2 board was groundbreaking for the time. The first time I saw Virtua Fighter 2 😮 was amazing.
been a while since we last saw greendog, happy to have him back
Sega ported some of these to Windows 95.
"Get a rope" might be the most 90s thing about this episode!
Man I loved this one 😊
Would love to see a similar episode on all the Namco poly arcade games!
I always love watching these arcade focused episodes because I want to see if any of the games I remember playing pop up.
Adore last bronx- had it on the Saturn and I played it over and over and over.
Hell yeah this uploaded a half hour earlier than normal time game sack episodes hit. Awesome surprise Joe!
It was on time?
@@GameSack better it was a half hour early. Episodes hit my area normally at 3am this one hit at 2:30am.
@@brandonjenkins6381 Funny because I released it at 12:00am mountain time like I do every time. Hits east coast at 2:00am.
@@GameSack good to know. For some reason here in Indiana I'm not seeing them show up until 3am.
That ending skit was great, caught me off guard!
Glad to see more Virtual On coverage. Breaks my heart the emulation had issues though. Thats why I'm glad I have the Saturn game and Twin stick
Pretty sure the game is perfectly emulated on Xbox 360/Xbox One (Japanese digital marketplace) and on PS4 (also Japanese digital marketplace).
Which would be better than the Saturn version if you could hook up twinsticks.
@@Spaghettaboutit Not to mention it being part of Yakuza Kiwami 2, which is thankfully available in the rest of the world.

Virtual On included the "L" because it was made by Sega AM3, but Sega AM2 demanded that only their games could have the "Virtua" title.
Thanks, always wondered why.
some many golden games. sega was something else on the 90's ahead of its time.
Years ago I used to watch Gamesack and get so mad at Joe’s Sega fanboy-ism LOL! Now I LOVE EVERYTHING about this amazing show and look forward to every episode! Rock on Joe!
Haha, you got mad.
Joe is a character he plays. His real name is Isaiah Timbrooks. its funny because he actually dislikes videogames and mostly borrows from other UA-camrs and reads a lot of wikis. Even his accent is fake, not bad for someone from Glasgow.
@@thedeadpoolwhochuckles.6852 while he’s a scot, I knew that Isaiah true accent is more akin to brad Pitt in Snatch and funnily enough, Isaiah is also a bare knuckle prizefighter for the mob
We had a brand new Top Skater at the arcade in Hoover, AL back in the day. I think it was a "Time Out" location from Namco. It was a great machine.
A compilation of these would be incredible. So many blue skies 😍
A great look at games that were my go to during the mid to late 90s. So many hours put into Wing War and Virtual On, Sega really knew how to bring it. While I would dabble in Virtual Fighter most of my fighting game quarters went to Tekken. On occasional I'll come across a House of the Dead cabinet out in the wild and usually drop in a little money in to relive those old days.
