- We all read and hear a lot about the Speyside, Highland, Islay and even the Island regions and the great distilleries located within them. But, we hear much less about the single malt whiskies coming from the Lowland region, located south of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Tonight's whisky review takes us to this less known regions, but worthy, nonetheless of our attention. I am reviewing the 12 year old single malt from Glenkinchie that is bottled at 43%. Hope you enjoy and also I hope it informs your next whisky purchase.
Best,
Jason Debly
Thanks for the history Jason! This is a category I haven’t explored yet. I will have to check out some!
Certainly something to explore with your viewers!
I agree completely Jason! Very nice review!
Thanks!
Hi Jason. Always look forward to your objective and spot on reviews! Next time I'm in the store, I'll be seeking out this one. Keep up the great work! Thanks!
Thanks! Appreciate the positive feedback!
Glenkinchie: never heard of it. Not a brand you hear about too much here in Canada. Thanks for highlighting it. Sounds like you are quite familiar with this malt, Jason, with a visit to the distillery to your credit. Interesting episode. Always enjoy watching. ✔️
thx
Good to see you again Jason. New distilleries in the lowlands include glasgow distillery, which now is turning out loads of expressions.
Jason - your palate has an excellent memory ! It's a rare pleasure to re-visit bottles from years ago and find that a producer has improved the product ! It's usually the other way around as so many producers from every spirits category is reducing quality for increased quarterly profits. Great review Mr. Debly ! Keep them coming !
Really enjoyable video, very interesting and we'll explained background on lowland malts!
Yes it is very very rare to hear about Lowland malts. I had the Glenkinchie 10 year and it was like an Irish whiskey that was sulfury bitter. Scared me off their offerings. The 12 year got put on sale for 25% off and it sold out. I guess all those buyers saw this review.
In the past , like ten or twelve years ago I encountered some 12 yr Glenkinchie that had a slight sulphur note. But not lately.
Happy New Year!
Thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Great review; appreciate your deep level of knowledge and taking time to share it with us. Cheers!
Thanks! Hope all is well with you.
@@JasonDebly Beautiful fall day here in Peterborough Ontario, so no complaints. Hope you are well too.
I hope my son will like it
Me too! Happy holidays!
Nice review...my store has it..
I will check it out..
I do not usually buy anything less than 46%abv...
But, a nice lowland would be good to have on hand...
You are a classy gent...
I always dig your reviews....
It's always good to mix it up a bit. I tend to focus on Highland malts way too much to the exclusion of other reasons. Hence, trying to get out of that conventional box of mine.
Nice review as always. Do you think you could review the Auchentoshan 12 year old ?! A classic Lowland malt, and I’m thinking about buying a bottle.. ;-)
Sure can! Will review soon.
@@JasonDebly looking forward to it !
Nice review, Jason, thank you👍. Was going to buy a backup Dalmore 12 yr, but I'm very inexperienced, should expand and maybe get this one. You think it compares maybe to Glenfiddich 12 year? Thanks again.
It certainly compares to Glenfiddich 12 and here is the take away my friend: it's way better!
If you like Glenfiddich 12, you will love Glenkinchie 12!
@@JasonDebly 🙂👍
Nice review. Ontario sees regular 12 vs Distillers Edition 12 just 10$CA (95 vs 105)... Is it worth it: maybe go for Irish malt. DIageo's parent company is Chengdu of China, I believe.
The Distiller’s Edition is definitely worth a couple more bucks!
I am not that big on Glenkinchie. It is okay, but doesn't really hit the spot for me. However, when it comes to Lowland I just have to point out: Bladnoch! Now that is an amazing Lowland whisky😋
Bladnoch is certainly on my list to review. Just cant find a bottle where I am.
