If we go by history, we are distant relatives. There's part of Urhobo culture that I find very refreshing and invigorating at the same time: the music, for example. Growing up, I love Johnson Aja and Okpa Arhibo.

A very deep, historical, philosophical and prophetic rendition. Only the initiated (I am not one) can explain this narrative of the Benin-British War of 1897 by Ebohon, its remote and immediate circumstances and its contemporary significance for world affairs. But from a literal interpretation of the song, Ebohon seems to state that at least two previous Obas before Ovoramwen predicted that the Whiteman would come and would "shake Benin Kingdom to its very foundation". Deep indeed!

High priest Ọsemwingie Ebohon is not the owner of the song.
Pa Monday Edosomwan composed and sang the song. This is his voice and there is an old video of him performing this song for the Uyiedo theatre troupe, owned by high priest Ebohon to promote the song in 1997 during the Benin Centenary( to mark 100years of the British punitive expenditure which was aggravated by Captain James Philips of cursed memory ).I was there with my granddad at the Oba Akenzua cultural center. Mind you, Pa Monday Edo is a musician and had his own group/band when he performed this song with Ebohon troupe. High priest Ebohon promoted the song but did not compose or sing the song.

Let's consider this scenario happening today. A family head is taken to another land where he dies. The family goes and begs to take the corpse home for burial. They are told that is not possible. The first son returns home empty-handed to the family. Just imagine it!

Diplomatically and in all sincerity this song belongs to Monday Edo , it's just so unfortunate that he was not equipped enough to promote his song but Ebohon did so you see where the problem is coming from

Ebohon is the thief here, he exploited his kinsman instead of him promoted and nurtured him. Thankfully, this Shalipopi sampling of the song, has brought interest on research for truth and fairness.
