"half break" = full break; most likely because it's using the full 8 counts to "break" "rock step, around, ball change" = half break (it's using 4 counts), but usually "around" is actually said to be a kick
A good tutorial and the individual parts like the Shim Sham step, pushes and cross overs, Tacky Annies explained very well indeed. When it comes to the breaks it gets a little difficult, again the individual steps explained brilliantly but how many of each type of break becomes confusing.
Great video! Thanks! This was very helpful. I know this was posted awhile ago and maybe you're not checking these messages, but maybe you or another commentator can answer a question. It seems like most of the steps begin on 8: the slides, the pushes, and the half-breaks. Except, it seems like that's not entirely true. Specifically, the tacky-Annies each ends with an "and 8" jump, so that the half-break that comes after the tacky-Annies would seem to start on the 1. I'm having a little trouble teaching my feet that the half-break sometimes starts on the 8, and sometimes starts on the 1. So, am I understanding this correctly? Do some (most) of the half-breaks start on the 8, but the half-breaks after the tacky-Annies start on the 1? Or, am I missing something. Thanks!
Hi! Haven't had access to this account in a while, but this is completely my error! I wasn't well aware of the correct counts when I filmed this in my teens. I hope to film a new tutorial soon, but I believe Lindy Ladder here on UA-cam has a good tutorial with more knowledge of the counts than I did at the time of filming! Thank you for you question and apologies for the late reply!
Nice video. Pity you're speeding up. You start out nice and slow and just when the steps get more difficult, you seem to get in a bit of a hurry... and.. is it just me or are you smuggling with the count after the third tacky annie? you start the break afterwards on 1 instead of 8 and you seem to correct that somewhere, but I don't see where. Maybe I just got it all wrong (most likely) :D
Hi Sydney, Just FYI, at 13m and 29 seconds you come in on the '1' instead of the '8'. We are using this tutorial for a group dance! It is otherwise very helpful! Thank you so much!
I'm a tap dancer and that is NOT the shim sham! You dont drag your foot with the shim sham you do a pick up, ball change, stamp theres no cross over or slide. in the combo you cross over at the back
Im new to Lindy Hop! And I always felt so lost when Shim Sham came up! Thank you so much for this tutorial! It helped a lot 🥰

I've been using this tutorial for a few years now every time I go out for swing dancing
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Clear instructions and nice to see you putting it all together to music at the end.
Awesome tutorials! Easy to follow and the repeating movement helps me a lot to practice :) Thanks!
