Always loved slice and dice in the comics. I felt they lifted the cobra ninja side to even out and give snake eyes and storm shadow some real leveled competition
My buddy and I read the Ninja Force comics as kids, and we were convinced that Slice's secret identity was actually Billy, Cobra Commander's mystery son... I have never gone back to do sniff it all out, but maybe this isn't crazy, at least on the surface..? I mean, Slice is mysterious, his presence did overshadow other cobra ninjas, including Dice, and his mask does have echoes of Cobra Commander's helmet...
About what you said with Slice and dice being inseparable that's how I feel with Alpine and Bazooka, Leatherneck and Wet suit, and Lifeline and Lift Ticket.

I actually do have a lot of love for these two. I was a bit older when they came out and not quite done playing with toys, but I was old enough to have a bit more childhood purchasing power at the time. I got Slice and Storm Shadow, and my brother picked up Dice and Dojo (we bought T'Jbang and Nunchuk soon after respectively -- what a great summer for Joe buying!). We'd also read all the most recent comics at the time, and I was happy to see Cobra get some replacements for Storm Shadow (who I prefer as a good guy, btw). The limitations caused by the action features on the Ninja Force figures are a bit annoying in someways, but overall, I like Slice and Dice. Great molding, colors and details; nice weapons. They were some of those '90s figures that actually didn't suck. Later on my brother added the orange Slice to his forces and I got the poorly named "Red Ninja." I did not know about the variant with the normal waist/torso. Thanks for the info Hoodie!
I was insanely into Ninja Force as a child and Dice was my favourite because of that mask. I wish he got more love aside from that Red Ninja figure (which I did). Since 92 my Dice figure has changed colour completely. He is now a sort of pudding brownish tone. I wish it was easier to get his re-released version.
Absolutely LOVED the Cobra Ninja Force series, I had every single one of them plus they had a great Comic book that went with the series that i had and in the comic Firefly was invovled with the ninja force.

I felt like slice and dice were meant to be a replacement for a rival between storm shadow and snake eyes. Since slice wore a mask, I always put him against snake eyes, and storm shadow, wearing all white, I always put him against dice since he pretty much wore a similar black and dark color to snake eyes.
I've enjoyed this. I had both guys growing up with a fits full of night creepers to back em up against storm shadow. Loved the comic inserts with the figures in background.
Ninja Force was the subline that helped me get into G.I. Joe. I remember reading Issue 126 and it was great. The comic books eventually got carried away with the Ninja Force. I've seen a few videos to fix Ninja Force figures but mine are still in good shape. I wouldn't mind finding some junk one's to fix to get the practice.
Great review. Nice to put faces with some of the other guys from the live chat. My son had Slice and called him a Urban Ninja. I had to buy the Complete Encyclopedia of G.I.Joe by Vincent Santelmo so we could identify all the Joes I got at a yard sale for him. I do remember the "red ninjas" and seriously thought Slice should have been that. It was a cool figure despite the gimmick of the arm. I wonder if after all these years he suffers from the loose joints.

Great review, 2 figures, it's funny that I think someone at Hasbro must be a fan of Frank Miller's graphic novel the dark knight returns, because there are 2 characters named slice and dice, I love these figures I'm glad to have them in my collection, I wonder why dice didn't get made into a shadow ninja, slice just might have been more popular, also I love that they both have a cobra symbol on both there arms.
Had both Slices but no Dice's and am remedying that problem as we speak! Also a subliminal TMNT tie-in that the Ninja Turtle Donatello had a purple headband and was the Bo Staff Turtle......OK are we scared yet?
My GI Joe era was mostly 1987-1991 - after Snake Eyes V.4... I pretty much moved on, and started thinking more about playing with girls, than toys... such is puberty. 🤣
I'm one those to blame for giving in to the ninja craze! LOL These two I loved. A few ninja force characters I only kind of liked. And there were some I definitely thought were trash. I'm glad my Slice is a fused waste version So, I don't have to worry about the O ring breaking. Was looking at my Joes a while ago and lightly lifted Quick Kick and he just came apart. Saw Lady Jaye moving very loosely when grabbed him and put his parts back in the shoe box. So, I picked up Lady Jaye carefully, and her O ring instantly came apart, as well! One of these days I'm going to have to go to a hobby shop if they still exist. No thanks to the pandemic. And see if they sell O rings.
Oh, and Slice's lower legs (from knees to feet) are a reuse of the Snake Eyes with the blue shirt, gray vest, and black pants. Sake Eyes shin wraps are blue, though.
this is what I didn't like about ninja force. take the most articulated figures of the time and limit that articulation on the characters that could utilize it the most. I had a street fighter the movie JCVD rock trooper guile and I was able to replicate all his moves from his films, but could I have kick ass ninja fights? only with 10 percent of my ninjas the rest where all nerfed with a stupid gimmick. on the topic of slice and dice I also had these guys paired up, and I love dices mask its awesome, I always thought of it as a muzzle like dr. lectors. unfortunately I had the slice with the tabs on his waist. I just found your channel and I've watched a few of your vintage reviews, I find them very entertaining and am glad to have been able to see two of my favorite figs from my childhood. thank you

I am super-excited to learn about these figures and vehicles, since they came long after I stopped collecting G.I. Joe. Now, thanks to you guys, I have to pay top-dollar for what I missed. 😉. Thanks for keeping me in the collecting game. I could not be more excited for vintage Joes. The new ones, not so much. 😞
Good work on combining characters and figures into single reviews. Cobra definitely needed more individual ninjas to balance out the Joe's Ninja Force. It's quite a pity that we never got red ninja figures. I find that these guys would look a little more menacing with less strange face masks. I also think they could have added one to three more Cobra ninjas - all in different colors, perhaps one of which could have specialized in missile weapons.
Loved the review. Of all the "Joe Club" figures. I had to get these two when they were released. They were such amazing updates to these figures which I so much loved. I still have my Slice, but my Dice lost a limb (which was my problem with the later. His legs broke off easily because of the "unique" boots he wore). I wonder if that was a common occurrence with the figure?
Finally one new Gi Joe figure I actually have. Didn't buy em but got em in some other stuff. Have Storm Shadow too, was gonna ask how you fix em. As Storm Shadow has a broken o ring. My Slice is the later version his waist can't turn.

Both these figures are pretty cool looking, although for some reason, I think they would have fit nicely on the Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos toy line as well. The only downsides I see are the action feature gimmick and the lame code names, still, the least worst from Ninja Force.
I donþ.mknd ninjas in gi Joe but over saturation of.ninja is pretty bad generally I was fine with storm shadow and snake eyes and jinx and the hard and soft masters but when they start pulling ninjas out of no where then it no longer is a military themed toy line it's just a ninja club so I don't mind ninjas in gi Joe but only in small incramints
I'm gonna go off on a bit of a rant here, so please forgive me. But we have yet another case of Japanese ninja armed with Chinese wu shu weapons. Sigh.
Don't get me started on how Storm Shadow and Jinx seem to be the only Japanese ninja in Joe lore (and they're Americans). Given the international flavor of Cobra's non-trooper characters, is it too much to ask that a Japanese character be included? IDK, maybe Night Creeper Leader is (certainly should be).

My Dice has the same issue of turnings purplish brown too.
