Wonderful! Really clever and quirky songwriting and sound. I still have my original 12" vinyl bought in 1986 in Sydney, Australia. It's labelled "FAC-138" on the back. Never really got into their later stuff.
Gavan Whelan was an amazing drummer , (see the footage on whistle test 1985 if you can find it) and the band was never quite the same after his departure in 1988 .. a bit like The Who post Keith Moon !!
Saw James and the happy Monday's at Liverpool haigh building in front of no more than 100 people saw them on after midnight with Tony Wilson on Granada! Then following week saw the Monday's at Oliver's in chester
Thanks,a thrill to hear the vinyl again. My Australasian copy is in the other part of the region. First head Blue Monday, looked for New Order, got introduced to Joy Division, looked for Factory and found some gems. James were a delight to discover. Erasmus,Wilson and Hannett from Factory helped put out some pretty unusual music. After James it was a few years until the Happy Mondays who were pretty remarkable in their own way. Glad James went their own way early on,they have recorded some fine music, sometimes played over the PA in the the shit supermarket I work in. (Happy Mondays haven't featured yet) The Forest Fire EP cannot be heard in the Staff toilets from the speaker above the cubicle. I appreciate your post and best wishes to Salford and everyone there who keeps working, playing and creating(recording especially)from the South, where the penguins are.
First heard this as a 14 year old, next day went straight to Jumbo records Leeds bought it and was hooked. That year sneaked into Ritzys merrion center ( over 18's ) watched the best gig ever.
@@mana3735 probably the same gig, as I would've been 13 I had to get in middle of some older lads I knew. Loads of Leeds lads there from football, I can remember the last song been Sit down and it went off big time. I used to have loadsa bootleg tapes and found this gigs tape at a record fair and all through it was " We are Leeds " getting chanted. Can't believe the shit I got up to at that age, went to Millwall away 1986/87. I f&@£in panic if my 14yrs old lad isn't home by 11pm now. Best time of my life aged 13 to 17, music, clothes, football and clubbing, not in any order. Thanks for the video pal.
@@waynehindle8885 That's the gig! I've been looking for that tape. I've found one song from it called "Drunkard". Yeah...it was full of Leeds lads and Tim booth is a Leeds supporter....so they all had a good laugh! I know what you mean, mate. the shit i got up to back then...I'm so glad my kids didn't follow in my footsteps! Clubbing Clothes Footy Music Weed Girls!! ...and in no particular order!
@@mana3735 Yeah we're probably 2 of 1000's of lads doing and into the same thing, although what I do remember was the negativity from some people who didn't get the music scene back then, who used to slag bands like James, Smith's, Mondays, etc in the early days, then the same people 5 yrs later in 1990 when the same band's went mainstream we're all walking around in 20 inch jeans with a James/Rose's t-shirts on thinking it was the bollocks. We all moved on to partying illegally which the same people got into 2yrs later, there was a generation of like-minded lads always 2 steps ahead, which me and you can say we were part of.
@@waynehindle8885 Yeah...back in the early days I'd get people asking me why i was into such shit music that never gets into the charts!!! haha. Now Shaun and Bez are household names on daytime tv! Great days when it did all take off though...i was happy that people finally got onto it.

Did you ever hear of the Leeds gig that turned into a riot? 1985. There's a tape of it somewhere.

A masterpiece. My ex took it when he moved out.
yep, a master piece
I don't blame him !
..but he missed the 7" of Hymn from Hialeah w/bsiđe Si las cosas were perfect..
@DavidByrne. When we met 4AD meant Roman history , to him.
