Sliders is fun up to the point where Arturo leaves. Later on it goes downhill. Sure, there are still decen episodes, but season 5 is a complete trash. After Wade leaves, it is just over, even if Mallory is for a bit more time. Rembrant is OK, but he can not carry the show by himself

When was the last time you saw a remake that wasn't a shadow of its former self? That era of television is irreproducible. Even with an optimal team of writers, producers and directors trying to be faithful to the original production values, it would just seem out of place in 2023. It would be obvious that they are doing a "throwback" or "retro" cliche. Sliders was a TV show that existed in the 1990's. It's permanently bound to that era. It's not some thing that you can resurrect and bring back to life and "make better". It's finished, it's over. That style of television is never coming back. What you're doing is like trying to bring back a dead son from the grave or something. Even if you could, it wouldn't be the same. It would be weird.

John Rhys Davies was the favorite character on the show, and it was such a shock, when he was killed off. Sabrina Lloyd's departure was over a known feud with Kari Wuhrer, so when in the plot they dangled the possibility of Wade's rescue, it all felt cheap. Everyone knew that people who left, weren't coming back. If the show got rebooted, I'd still be re-watching the original. First 3 seasons were good, but it's best to pretend, that the last 2 didn't exist. Like Professor says - they had something there. A potential to have a new Star Trek, and they blew it.
Yeah, if it were me rebooting the show I'd just completely ignore the last two seasons(sorry Charflie O'Connel), reveal that the Professor who was killed was, in fact, the double who tried to steal the credit for inventing sliding, and maybe Quinn and Wade have a kid who comes sliding with them(that relationship felt like a dangling carrot). I would also revisit the character of Logan St Cloud, and the fact that the government of their world was trying to figure out what happened to them, and how sliding works.
Sabrina leaving also had something to do with David Peckinpah. He's the reason Wade was written off as being sent to a Kromagg breeder camp. Guy was a complete douche.
Been on a John Rhys kick recently after hearing him on the "Inside of You" podcast and listening to how energetic he can still get about past projects. I was bummed they didn't go more into "Sliders" and hope a reboot is still possible down the road. I completely agree that they should bring back the original 4 if possible, but I would prefer a more "GB: Afterlife" approach where Quinn's tech is stumbled upon by new characters and he shows up to talk about how they were lost but then eventually got back and maybe split up. That way they don't need to bother any actors that don't want to come back and can leave their characters with the satisfying story-ending that at least they got back to their Earth eventually.
Yes , the general audience has a better understanding of a multiverse concept so rebooting it following the original 4 and ignoring everything after season 2 would be perfect. It worked for Halloween so it could work for Sliders for sure.
I thought the the first season show was absolutely great as a nerdy teenager, especially when it appears they pretty much unknowingly had slid back to their own dimension before sliding out again in one of those episodes. There was hope that the writers had a plan for them to get back (this was before I found out that writers actually write the TV show while the season is still airing). As an engineer today that actually budgets my personal time, I don't think I could rewatch the show. I'd have to fast forward to all the key plot scenes...and knowing it was all for nothing with no real ending- I can't rewatch it.
It certainly would be interesting to see them fix the problems they made, my theory the seer saw that the next world they would reunite with the correct arturo not the fake one that replaced him and died and they would go and rescue wade finally because rembrant was more interested in saving her than the new cast. Arturo would come up with some brilliant scientific way to restore the lost version of quinn that got collided and merged with the new guy (somehow) but doing that leaves the other new ones on the seer world and probably the new quinn there too and probably draws the original quin through a vortex seperating him? I don't know how they would just get quinn and leave the other new ones to reuinite the original 4 otherwise, but the original 4 were best 4.
One of the objections to "Death Ray" Pulsar articles in magazines is they forget the inverse square law. By the time any rays from the nearest pulsar reach Earth, they will be very weak. The Sliders story admittedly had the pulsars close to Earth, but as JRD said, the gravitational effects would make the radiation bursts less relevant
It's weird that we have so many time travel shows but so few parallel universe ones. You'd think studios would jump at the chance of being able to reuse the same actors and locations. Sliders not only pioneered how it should be done but hit it out of the park on first try, like Back to the Future did. And the word "slider" has since been used as a term for dimension-hopping traveler in other sci-fi.
The professor was my favorite character from the whole series. My friend and I just re-watched the whole series up until the last season. She never actually saw the final season and when we got to the reveal of what happens to Quinn she rage quit the episode and refused to keep going
Sliders almost seems like the perfect recipe for a reboot. Because it's one of those few concepts that really could appeal to both old fans and new audiences. You can have a cast of brand new characters starting on a different Earth from the original series. And one of the first worlds they visit ends up being a world where one or more the original characters now resides, maybe even take some of them along for the ride. The show could even visit worlds from the original season to see what's been happening in 30 years. Or completely brand new worlds altogether. There's no restrictions on where the heroes can and cannot go.

Legend. ❤
I LOVED Sliders and I Love this man.
And another thing: What on Earth are we doing rebooting Quantum Leap instead of Sliders?!
Well said professor Arturo!
Yes , the general audience has a better understanding of a multiverse concept so rebooting it following the original 4 and ignoring everything after season 2 would be perfect. It worked for Halloween so it could work for Sliders for sure.
PLEASE!!!! This needs to happen!!!
Totally agree...
Well Rick and Morty picked up the ball where Sliders dropped it. At least we have that.
This show had so many potential legs...there are millions of dimensions
I thought the the first season show was absolutely great as a nerdy teenager, especially when it appears they pretty much unknowingly had slid back to their own dimension before sliding out again in one of those episodes. There was hope that the writers had a plan for them to get back (this was before I found out that writers actually write the TV show while the season is still airing). As an engineer today that actually budgets my personal time, I don't think I could rewatch the show. I'd have to fast forward to all the key plot scenes...and knowing it was all for nothing with no real ending- I can't rewatch it.
I’m really torn on this one because IF JRD didn’t leave Sliders, we would t have our perfect Gimli in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings.
He seems like a great guy. Plus he is the first celebrity to call Startrek, Star-TREK and not Starttact. So he is well spoken as well!
I love the original 4. Reboot done the right way would be awesome. I bought the bluray of Sliders.
He is so right
One of the objections to "Death Ray" Pulsar articles in magazines is they forget the inverse square law. By the time any rays from the nearest pulsar reach Earth, they will be very weak. The Sliders story admittedly had the pulsars close to Earth, but as JRD said, the gravitational effects would make the radiation bursts less relevant
I want a reboot!
HOPE THEY REBOOT THIS
SHOW 😄♥️
I love sliders, i rewatch it every couple of years, it went a bit down hill toward the end bit still great
Honestly he was giving them solid ideas and the writers were just 90's tv basic writers. Sliders if done right in this time would be great.
He is so right. Man the show it could be like cobra kai
They better hurry up and get this rolling...I dont wanna see another Quantum Leap fiasco.
Props to John for keeping the Slide alive.
I wish they’d take him serious! He’s knows what he’s talk about!
I wish John Rhys-Davis would just write a book series of slidders I’d settle with that!
If they give Sliders the "Cobra Kai" treatment, it would be amazing series.
He sounds the same!
The professor was my favorite character from the whole series. My friend and I just re-watched the whole series up until the last season. She never actually saw the final season and when we got to the reveal of what happens to Quinn she rage quit the episode and refused to keep going
When Jerry O'Connel left, it failed MISERABLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
Early on it was such a good show with incredible potential. He was right to leave when he did and it was never really good after he left.
Its one of my annoyance aswell... such a great potential....
Surprised to see how engaged he was with this, I'd assumed it was "just a job" for him.
