Eugenol, good to see you! You too, Cristalle. French Lover is a 5 for me. I haven't smelled the original formulation but the current one is fantastic. In addition to what you guys mentioned I get a nice patchouli backbone out of it. I tend to over spray because that first burst brings me so much joy. (same thing with CDG Black). And I love the way this bad boy simmers on my skin-it really comes alive for the first few hours before dropping to a quiet, authoritative hum. To me, FL has what so many perfumes that smell great otherwise lack: texture and dynamics. Reminds me of Yatagan but better staying power and with even less sweetness. As far as the name thing, I bought my bottle at the Boston Barney's in the Copley Mall, and my bottle says French Lover. The SA did have a spare orange sleeve with BdO on it so she let me have it, but all the bottles were FL. From what I glean, any difference in formulation seems to have to do with the Lauder take-over and not with the name on the bottle. I'd be interested to smell the old version of this one but I'm perfectly content with current. So long as the formulation doesn't change again and the price doesn't shoot up I'll definitely buy another bottle after I empty mine.
I just want you to know, that you and Kristo are two out of only five reviewers I bother watching anymore. I don’t play the game, I don’t enjoy the politics of fragcomm, and I’ve been a huge fan of Kristo for years, and a fan of your content for the past couple years (since you’ve been more active with reviewing). I just wanted to throw it out there that the approach you take is exactly why I started reviewing nearly ten years ago, and I hope neither of you plan on stopping anytime soon. Keep doing what you do, bro.
I have smelled three versions of FL, including the sample you generously gave me a few years ago. All three versions smell slightly different. I noticed that the sample you gave me, which appears to be an official 3.5 ml atomizer from the Malle brand, says "eau de cologne" on the label, whereas bottles are eau de parfum. This may account for some differences in smell, but curiously, I find the eau de cologne version to be the deepest. This is a long shot, but do you remember how you acquired that French Lover sample to begin with, and do you remember roughly when you picked it up, ballparking the year?
I love french lover and your right Anjelica does give a spicy aroma 🤔 so could kristo call this his "most complimented" scent then because of the banker 🤷♂️ something to chew on 🤚#wackpack
A very good woody/spicy scent. I can’t help but feel it is a yuppy younger brother version of Chanel’s Sycomore. Also has a Terre D’hermes vibe with a less pronounced citrus quality and higher quality ingredients. Amazing take on an amazing house!
Nice to see a review of this one! For me this is the perfect work scent. Organic, masculine and a bit subdued. Smells fresh, but not over the top and in your face. The woods and incense in the drydown are great.
Interesting review. I like 'loud' fragrances when relaxing alone in the evening. I get the Promise comparison but I really like those clouds sometimes if they are complex enough.
One Malle I haven’t heard you guys discuss is En Passant. Have either of you got your noses on it before? I personally think it’s masterfully done, but quite different from most of the catalogue.
Apparently after doing some digging hes made a ton of scents for creed, GIT, original santal the two that get compared to French lover spice & wood which has the same notes galbanum, Angelica, cedar 🤔 royal oud has the same notes also and had been said to be a bourbon composition, oh and I've even heard he had a hand in making Aventus 🤷♂️ I gotta see if I can find the article but it explains the confidentiality agreement creed makes him sign not allowing him to advertise him as the perfumer just a "contracted advisor" 🤣🤣 quite interesting actually to find that stuff out.
Rando catching a giant ass fish and you taking his picture is the most Canadian thing ever! Haha I’m starting to love this perfume. I have yet to buy a full bottle from Malle. This could very well be the first. Music ravageur is for sure in the running as well. I finally get to try some Malle in person in a couple weeks!
That guy is going to be telling that fishing story for the rest of his life, so good on Kristo for playing along. 😘 BTW, I wonder if Frédéric Malle considered giving French Lover an exclusive US release under the name FREEDOM LOVER? It would’ve been their biggest seller, by a mile.
One of the greatest underrated masculines ever...Pierre Bourdon...I wish he could create more men's perfumes to cope with the crap released out there under the veil of "masculinity".
Haaa!..lmao.."Are you fuckin' kidding man!.. We're reviewing Bois D'Orage!!".. Smackpack strikes again. C'mon, E!.. chill out a little, dude is pulling a record Chinook out of polluted waters! very humorous, now back to the vid :)

So don't leave us then.. please
Does Kristo get paid to be Eugene's caretaker?
Yes, and it's not enough...
Thunder wood was my nickname in high school, nomsayin?

I'm chewing rn!

The NY Malle boutique is selling the French Lover version. Got mine a few months ago. Love it.
Pretty classic! “Wtf dude we área reviewing boos d’ orage “ 😂 love you guys

Hey Eugene. More blessings. Great review my brother. Blessings to kristo.
Hey B. What's up bro? You good. I hope you are having great day and weekend. Great fragrance
Amazing review. In depth like always. I got married couple of days ago and chose French lover as my scent of the day. It's one of its kind fragrance.
Bourdain is a master. He did green Irish tweed, that's why he made cool water. Fell out with auld man creed

@@jeremyhinze8837 aye its total bullshit. I hope he gets a cut of the profits
In revenge you should have made the Solomon fisherman acknowledge how good your Frederic Malle smells
I got the French lover version off fragrancex I recall
A more rough version of spice & wood very nice one but i prefer spice & wood.
I'm glad you left the salmon guy in the video and didn't edit that out. That's funny.. and the photo!

Evgene is making me wonder if I'm gay.
Eugene is wondering if he’s gay 😂
Is there any connection/similarity with Bois d'Orange from Roger & Gallet?
I clicked without reading the full title, not realizing Bois d’Orage was French Lover, which happened to be my scent of the day!
Cool video as usual 👍
I went through 100ml of this and had a few people ask me what it was - on skin it just works away discreetly - the opposite of a bro scent
Did you try the new Chanel Gabrielle essence?
17:25 lmao this is so awesome

It's true. Damn spicy Toronto water.
#wackpack
The beard compliments you very well!
*this guy has a huge fish* 👀🐋
Thought this would be right up my street but something just didn’t sit right with me so had to flip it.
Kristo, the man.
One of the greatest underrated masculines ever...Pierre Bourdon...I wish he could create more men's perfumes to cope with the crap released out there under the veil of "masculinity".
Hugely entertaining As ever guys 😂
French Lover reminds me a lot of Corsica Furiosa from Parfum d’Empire
So basically all it boils down to is "complement gitting[sic.]". I just fucking knew it.
Hmmmm nice talks......
First?
No I'm 1st☝
@@Tyronieus I can vouch for that.

The Red Green Fragrance Show. Another struggle tug of war from the Canucks who leave us confused and dazed.
Thunderstorm Wood. Also, UGH, you do not trill or roll your “R’s” in French. It’s in the back of your throat.
They’re probably not trying to sound pretentious
Storm woodn't
Was nice when we could just go out
more of a general discussion than a review
Too incensy on my skin, unfortunately.
Really liked the review/conversation though
