Even on the same day that I recored this video the exchange rates changed again. The dollar blue is now lower than the MEP rate which Argentine companies use to buy USD. The situation changes minute-by-minute. But the idea of this video stays the same: make your calculations.
I'm going to Argentina in May/June. I'm not worried. I'll book local hotels and flights from my home country, no sweat. I might take a little hit wit local ATM's, but i don't expect anything out of the ordinary. As long as cash is still accepted on the street. Food for thought bro. ty 4 vid.
I would think the complication would put off a lot of tourists also! If Argentina wanted to bring in value from foreigners then it should do away with the headache! How long until it abolishes the peso?
Right now official rate is 850, MEP and Blue both around 1100, and toruist rate 1300. So that would mean paying everything with foreign credit card is advantageous?
Although the currency changes often, because of inflation the average plate of food will still be $12.00, slice of cake $4.00, drink $8-$10 USD and food at grocery store same as the US. I lived there all of 2023 and found real estate still expensive. Argentina only accepts dollar mostly through wire transfer.
I see this was last year but still ... Official rate then Blu-rate then tourist rate. I'm from the states I've never used a credit card here.. I live here in Buenos Aires but people say if you use a foreign credit card you get even better than the Blu-rate. Obviously depends on what you pay your credit card number 0% right
is there now a difference between Debit and Credit Card. I thought that before, you only get the refund on the exchange rate on a Credit Card, and not on a Debit Card.
Apparently some debit cards do offer the refund but my test and comment of other tourists are showing that debit cards often have problems with the refund. To be sure, I prefer to use a credit card.
Hi, Im going to be in Argentina in a couple weeks so this is super helpful info. What’s the best source for the MEP and tourist dollar rates? I was able to track down the official rate and also western union
Great info. Thanks. I will be going in November and wondered about paying for small items as in cafes like a coffee and pastry. Still use credit card or should I carry some pesos? Will only be there 2 days as a layover.
So, in summary, use your credit card for all purchases of goods and services while in the country. For your hotel - if you can pre-pay in dollars online, then do so with your credit card before your trip. Is that correct?
It's important to make the calculation. It can be that the hotel has a cheaper price in ARS. But make your calculations how much it would cost in USD/EUR/... against the ARS. Many hotels are changing their rates due to the changing situation.
Hi again! We plan to use our credit card for everything in Buenos Aires, but are there any situations where we will need any cash? For example, do all restaurants take credit card?
I want to go to Argentina, but the unstable and confusing currency situation is a really huge turn off. Can't imagine how much this country is losing on tourism dollars due to this. Wasting an economic opportunity -- such is the Argentine way!

It is gonna end up getting expensive there once things stabilize.
Argentina hasn’t been stable in dozens of yrs.
@@Twinzma Ya but drastic measures haven't been taken in decades (maybe never?) Definitely unprecedented times.
this vidio was very helpful. Thank you! Looking forward to visiting your beautiful country!
Wow very helpful thank . Still not putting me off visiting the country will be there in 2024
This is too complicated for me.

Good to know. My wife and I were doing research about coming to visit from the United dtates

Thank for the video. Are You planning an updated version about the current situation? I believe it is developing fast.

Amazing, a week before my big holiday. Deliberately didn't pay for things in advance like usual. Nightmare 😭
Probably you would be ok anyway. Everything will be cheap for you if you have dollars. The nightmare is for us, Argentinians.

Cody. Book ur accom, flights from home, then go there and enjoy bruh.
Grazie...Cash is king...not so much now
Argentina uses a different calculation rate for tourists...than they do for businesses. pay with a card for anything
But what if u change your us dollar bills for pesos on the streets and pay everything with cash ?
I'm thinking of moving there from Canada, but it looks like the same thing is happening there, that is happening here.
At a 160% inflation rate there is no comparison to Canada or any other western country, I hope it gets better for the people of Argentina.
Huh
As a fellow Canadian, no. Not at all similar.

Is it me or is he really bad at explaining things.
It made sense to me, but it's rather complicated
Not complicated at all, well explained. Unfortunately some measures need to be implemented
He’s confused...and according to other people the dollar won’t decrease
This is good for the Argentinians, and as a tourist, I don't mind paying more to help their economy.
If they switch to the dollar everything will be WAY more expensive!
Excellent!!
Might be updated. The Milei government has started war fare on tourism?
screw Argentina... was going there this summer...i don't like playing double standard exchange rates
This is insane.

Eleven thousand hundred? These numbers don't exist in mathematics. Confusing.

It’s a complicated and always-changing economy which makes this a financially volatile country to try to live in for foreigners.
