  • On this episode, you get to see me screw up the wiring harness so that YOU don't have to! To increase the usefulness of Mouse's Tucson, we're installing a tow hitch and wiring harness so that she can pull our small utility trailer.
We installed a Curt Custom Wiring Harness #56348 and a DrawTite 2" Receiver Hitch - both designed for the2016 Hyundai Tucson.

In general, it’s a fantastic car. It’s big enough to get away for the weekend and small enough for around town.
Fuel economy (when not towing) is pretty good. We haven’t experienced any of the later engine issues that I’ve heard of with some Hyundais and we’ve had no issues or work done other than general maintenance, tires etc.
The one weird issue; and this is freaking weird: every September when we start rainy season - if the wipers are on, headlights are on and you press the break peddle, it blows the rear drivers side bulb. We replace the bulb and good for another year.
Dealership recommended replacing the wiring harness for the tail light but a bulb is a fraction of the price :).
Towing is OK. We keep it under the max limit for the car which is 1500 lbs; and that’s also the trailer axel limit so it works. It’s not a heavy vehicle so it is noticeable when towing, especially up hill. We keep it in a lower gear and don’t push it.
But it’s done a quite a few trips and no real complaints.
