- Enable cc for English subtitles! Today, I had my viewer Izzah give me a tour in one of Singapore's top Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Polytechnic is a type of high school that focuses on studying technical skills. It was very interesting to take a look at this polytechnic. Students were so energetic compared to Japan! Thank you Izzah for showing me around.

ojisan: oh i forgot i should be looking for flaws! *points at old and hole in wall*
In Singapore, after you graduate Secondary school, and get either N Level or O Level certificate, majority of the students get to choose whether you want to take a diploma or an A Level certificate. If you want to specify in a specific field, then a diploma in that field is what they take, and the polytechnics provide this. Polytechnics and ITEs (which is another choice you can go to) focus more on vocational and work skills. That is why the school campus is so big, because in Ngee Ann alone, it is split into (if I'm not wrong), 9 schools. Each school teaching different fields. Eg, Technology, Film, Art, Engineering, Business, Sciences. There are internal shuttle buses to move within the school easier. Many of the teachers too come from the actual industries that they are teaching about.
Which is another reason why we can't really say which poly is the best, because each poly has so many different schools, so take for example, Ngee Ann's best in Singapore in Business, Singapore Poly is good in engineering, Nanyang Poly is good in animation.
Some who are still unsure of what field they want to work in in the future, they'll take A Level certificate at Junior Colleges. Which is more academic, less vocational.
Polytechnics need 3 years to complete, Junior College takes 2 years. After that, regardless of whether you have a diploma or A level cert, we can apply for University, to get a degree. The males will go for their compulsory military service between Poly/JC and Uni.
On another note, Ngee Ann Poly has REALLY good and affordable western at Poolside canteen. Im not too sure if its still there tho. Its been like 5 years.
Temasek has a reputable design school too
I think poly is a special form of tertiary institute in Singapore which is specifically designed for the development of Singapore's economic environment, in most Asian countries like Korea, China, Taiwan, Malaysia and so on, at least 60%~80% cohort are able to enter government universities quite easily whereas in Singapore they only allowed like 20+% of each primary school cohort to enter, so poly graduates actually form the majority of Singaporean workforce(like 50 to 60 per cent), but the policy seems to have been changing in the past years that more Singaporean students are allowed to enter unis like NTU, NUS, SMU and SIT and obtain uni degrees.
izzah's so cute tho she's so sweet
IS IT JUST ME OR DOES SHE LOOK LIKE SANA FROM TWICE
She got bf?lol
I would love if you could come to Temasek Poly!!
Yeah, I think the best way to describe a poly and ITE to a Japanese is: 専門学校.
But I don't think there is a TOP poly. Different ones are famous for different courses.
totally agree with your 2 points..1) poly is senmon gakkou, 2) there's never such a ranking for poly..
thats SO TRUE i hate when people hv this misconception ngeeann is famous for biz sp is famous for engineering nyp is nursing tp is social sciences / law rp is arts management ++ so it all honestly varies on what u like :(
In China we also have this type of school(中专), it was very popular 20-30 years ago, now most of them changed into high school, as it's difficult to find a job after graduated from 中专。
Omg seeing NP brings back so many memories! The 3 years in Ngee Ann were the best years of my life man, miss this place
Omg thank you sooo sooo much for this video! I graduated from NP many2 years ago😂🤭 and watching you tour the whole campus is like me walking down memory lane. I miss NP so much 😭 although i must say that alot has changed through the years and the current students are reeaaaally lucky with all the new facilities!
Yep Best Polytechnic
At peeing
Great video!
When you ask Singaporean what is their favourite food, it is really a difficult question. This is because we need to rotate our menu every meal, and at times, our favourite food at that point in time really depends on what we want to eat or feel like eating that day.
I graduated from here and went to Japan's uni so i really miss this place damn
シハル what did u study?

I really love your videos!
the girl waving at 5:18 is so cute!
There's no so-called best polytechnic in SG..but rather each poly has its credits in offering a wide variety of courses that are recommended for students who wish to pursue pragmatic studies and gain practical experience before preparing to work in either private or public sectors. Poly students are known to be versatile, resilient, creative and fun-loving... partly due to their on-the-job (OJT) training that commence in Poly.
I have never been to NP before, thank you for sharing this video!!
i've been to all 4 polys except RP.
This lady student is sweet. Thank u ojisan for this informative video..
10:40 "Aloom-nees"
Nice haha
I graduated years ago from NP school of business and accountancy. I really miss it. I remember walking from one school to another to attend lectures. It's nice to see the new buildings and some parts of the school which I never got to visit.
Seeing my class locations in the video, "懐かしいなあ。。" Guess, I should drop by and give it a visit someday...
NP has changed so much over the years. Having spent a total of 5 years (3 years Poly + 2 years SIT) this video really brings back so much memories.
Oh man, I'm only heading there this April 🥺 Would had been awesome to see you there! :(
Things sure have changed for the better since I graduated from the same course 23 years ago.
hey same... lollll
come to Temasek Polytechnic, we have a kuso reservoir at the back of our school
You missed out school of health sciences!! There are lecture halls, 7/11 and a cute cat there!!
Altho idt you would be able to venture into a jc you should review their open house next year!!
I woke up, saw the upload, instant like cuz I know its gonna be good. Visited before but I study at Singapore Poly XD
3年だけど日本でいえば高専に近いかな? anyway WE are happy as u post the new video almost everyday, thx!
Ngee Ann Polytechnic had changed so much ! I've not been there for almost 30 over years
This brings back lots of memories. I graduated from School of Accountancy here. Like this video if u are from NP. :)
No such thing as top polytechnic though. Coz there are no rankings as least within Singapore. The oldest is Singapore Poly.
And the worst is Republic Poly /s
One thing we all can agree on would be NP is one of the top 5 polytechnics. Likewise for RP, its one of the top 5 polytechnics.
@@yurahezen6919 I thought the ranking was changed
1) Ngee Ann Poly
2) Singapore Poly
3) Republic Poly
4) Temasek Poly
5) Nanyang Poly
@@kennethmajorSG nyp is the best
@@shaptic95 helpful much when there are only 5 polytechnics in SG
If you dont already know, after secondary school(age 13-16/17), students get to choose to go to a Polytechnic or Junior College(JC). Polytechnics certifies students with a diploma of their course after 3 years while JCs certifies students with an A-level Cambridge cert after 2 years. Most JC graduates are likely to go to the top universities in Singapore while 1/3 Polytechnic graduates will make it into University
Great tour! Looking forward to more invitations by viewers for your content. Don't have to be schools other interesting places and jobs are great too. Cultural stuff would be good as well.
Yeah..like visit the scdf fire station..sometimes they have open house on saturdays..
OMG, thanks for this video.
I used to study Film, Sound Video (FSV) here, which is actually the same department as the Mass Comm students back in the late 90s.
That was when the Film department was still very new, since I was from 1 of the first few batches.
It's so nostalgic to see the current 8th and 9th floor of the Film building that u visited in this video, since that was where I spent almost my entire 3 years at.
Missed teaching in that place n my favourite relaxing spot feeding the huge fishes and turtles in the pond before heading for my wonderful FMS classes 😉.
They _are_ on top of a hill after all
I can show you around Republic Polytechnic! Its a pretty cool place!
I wish I could have studied here... I don't say Japanese high school is worse in all aspects, but this school focus more on developing self-independent students, which is very important in the era of globalisation...
Come to LASALLE its a big black school building
lasalle looks gorgeous in and out
Niceeee!
Your smile looks like the sunshine
She has a great voice and very local
Ghib! Love your videos and I gotta ask - what backpack is that you're carrying around? It looks dope
What a lovely girl
I would love to bring you around Republic Poly
U very famous in sg already
Polytechnic in Singapore should be equivalent as 高等専門学校 in Japan.
I think polytechnic in Singapore might be equivalent to 'senbon gakko'. Basically in Japan most will go senior high school which is Pre university in Singapore. Basically we can choose not to go to Pre university or senior high school but to go to polytechnic so that you can choose to specialised in a certain major. Its one step lower then a degree but at least you get a diploma. But if you go just Pre university, and cannot make it to university, then you only get an academic qualification, generally pay is also lower then a diploma holder.
One thing for sure everytime we type the word “TOP”, our autocorrect always capsize all of the letters of the word
omg i thought it was my phone - do you know why? i'm dead. lol
MojoRisin not sure I tot it was me that did some sort of thing and the autocorrect learnt it... but it’s been the same thing since my previous phone and current phone...
Liar mine didn't!
Do a video on Singapore Polytechnic next :D
bEsT PoLyTeChNiC
I don't think there's a "top poly" since their courses are all quite integrated and have different specialisations. It'll be a lot easier to tell what's the "top junior college" by the o level cut off point though. But I doubt the top two JC will allow you to film in there. If you're not after the top 2, try Nanyang JC since they've been featured in quite a few local UA-camr's and TV dramas.
the course i want is only available in temasek poly,,, ngee ann looks so pretty i'm jealous
Law?
@@miaomiao07 haha yea
Hi what is your camera and microphone did you use to record this video?
Izzah is literally my age and sooo much more cantik and adult-like ;u;
I would say that there is no ‘best/top’ polytechnic as each schools offers different courses and modules. As always, please do videos for all polytechnics to get a glimpse of all worlds!
Nanyang polytechnic welcomes you:) !!!
Come to Singapore Polytechnic, nation's first polytechnic!
You should visit Singapore poly too , the oldest poly in Sg
I think being a UA-camr can be a proper career, just like being in the entertainment industry like Actors and Actresses, not everyone can be one even if they choose to be, because it involves creativity, fine personality, hard work, likeabity, enterprising etc. There’s many way to define success in carving a great career for oneself. I love art in school but was forced to study science by my family, and ended up quite unhappy, luckily I chose the right career for myself, now I still do painting for leisure. Hence, Ken, do your best in whatever you are doing now, as your videos not only bring entertainment to people but also knowledge, understanding and enlightenment. You are also an ambassador for your country, bridging different people together.
My 7 years in Ngee Ann Poly is amazing. Study 3 years diploma of Mechanical Engineering there. Then 2 years degree of Mechanical Engineering and design under SIT but at NP campus. Then another 2 years of startup under NP startup programme. Hahaha I miss NP!!!

Come to NAFA Ghib! It is an art school located right beside bencoolen mrt :)
come to singapore polytechnic!
if you want a tour in NTU, let me know! I will bring you around pulau NTU
Someone should bring him tour at our oldest polytechnic and it's just right next to an MRT station, Singapore Polytechnic!
There's McDonald’s, KFC, Starbucks and Subway too!
nyp is also kinda beside the MRT too
The junk food school?
@@xxy5757 subway's pretty healthy i guess
Nice one Ghib!
Last time i pick polytechinic due to easy accessbility to public transport and yes sp is nearest to mrt so i went there. Nanyang is another nearest to a mrt too but amk i have studied in that area during my sec days so bored of it😂 Diff poly have their merits and courses to study also depend what your interest and where your result can get you into.
The biggest flaw about Ngee Ann Poly (ex-student here) would be that the phone signal gets cut off when you enter some of the lifts. Was stuck in the lifts one time with my friends and we had to wait until someone outside realised it in order for us to be rescued :\
Hopefully they've fixed it by now.
YES!!! NGEE ANN POLY FTW!!!!!
Statistically speaking, your viewers are more Japanese or Singaporeans? Seeing there's more English comments I can only assume you've attracted more of Singaporean viewers.
I don't recognise the place at all. The school looks like an industrial estate when I went to school there early 2000. Now it's totally unrecognizable.
NP forever under renovation so that's why
i'm getting a tour of my own sch too !
The gym is free for students! They'll scan your student card when you enter and check that you brought a towel along before allowing you entrance. The library also has more levels on top. There's a quiet zone at the top for those who wants to study and rooms we can book to do discussions, etc. You should visit the other schools in the poly if you get another chance next time! There's also a studio where you can game with friends, jam to music, record music, use the DJ room and record videos. (Promoting Studio27 to all of you) Come to NP y'all x'D
Try the chicken rice in SP Foodcourt 3!!
Ive been to Ngee Ann Poly once and im very sure there was a Starbucks there too

Last Thursday😁
@@GhibOjisan omg that is so cool, i was there too but i didn't see you :( our school offers third language classes, i'm taking japanese :D
If you go Universities, Poly, will you go ITE too 😅 as well as probably Arts School, School of Design&Technology(SUTD), Junior College etc!
SUTD is Singapore University of Technology and Design. So it's under University. I'm working there.
could you do nyp? really enjoy your content!
