- Today we are doing projects with the Dog's Head Red Spacer KaBar. We install rubber "O rings" onto the leather handle, have Tom Veff add his famous serrations and finally have Mica make a a leather clad custom kydex Sheath. Below is a description of the Dog's Head from the KaBar website. I'll add links below.
The Red Spacer KA-BAR is arguably the most collectible KA-BAR Knife made during World War II. The distinct red spacer below the hand guard and above the leather washer has caught the eye of collectors for decades. Though originals are rare and expensive, KA-BAR’s State & Union shop has made a small batch of this iconic knife with the Dog's Head blade mark. The leather washers are shaped by hand and dyed to create an aged appearance. The pommel is ground down to replicate the dimensions of the original. Each red spacer is hand made to be slightly longer than the current spacer used on KA-BAR Fighting/Utility Knives. The blade is sandblasted, then cold gun blued. The sheath undergoes an aging process to darken the leather and match the original sheath color.

Thanks for the link I'll have to check it out
You are very welcome
Okay, your Kydex sheath does not rattle, but that sound it makes pulling it from the sheath, yeah, kind of loud. I will stick with leather :) But then again I am old school. And yes I water proof my leather sheaths.
Now the click greatly, if not completely diminishes if you take it out out with that in mind. But in showing the retention the click will show it.
I wouldn’t mind having a good leather sheath for it but with the strap lower and going over the guard.
@@haveaknifeday Not impossible. I have made a sheath like that for my Kabar but the snap, sheath side came off. I will have to try again.
I have made one that had the strap incorporated when it was cut. Had to make it longer and then cut to length
My wife loves the catnip knife. That said, not a fan (usually) of serrations; howeverm that one looks really knice!
I’ll have a video of him with the catnip knife later today as a standalone video
How did you have the fire starter secured to your sheeth ?
@@In-FishermanNick it slides into the holder and has a shock cord that I slip over the end to secure it 🫡👍🏼
what size is the o rings
#15 O rings
@@haveaknifeday I just did mine maybe didn't get right ones I can barely feel it
@dannyjackson2062 hmm, I wonder if yours ran a bit deeper? You might upsize it by one and give it a try.

Whats sad is that having been in modern times and they still have not done a full tang version which is just embarrassing. Technically it cant even be called a full tang because it has a rat tail tang. A very weak knife compared to an SRK or ESEE 6. Go for something better. These make good wall trophies but not good for outdoor use
I’d go for a full tang version. Just difficult to get that leather stack “classic look.” It correct me if I’m wrong. The closets is the Medford tribute knife but that’s a lot more expensive and doesn’t have a leather stack. Have one, nice blade.
I get what you’re saying but rat tail is the way most knives have been made over the last few thousand years and I have yet to break one.
