Qrow and Ironwood are close. They've worked together with Ozpin for many years, but they just have different methods and ideas. Ironwood is more aggressive and direct in his approach where as Qrow is more like Ozpin in that he's cautious and patient. Like in Volume 3, when Qrow, Ironwood, Glynda, and Oz debate the situation of Atlas' fleet in Vale. Qrow saw that as Ironwood making a powerplay against Oz, which while not Ironwood's intent, it kind of was since the Vale council more or less lost faith in Oz and put all their chips in Ironwood's corner.
Sure, but in the past it was always clear that Ironwood and Qrow were not the best of colleagues. To me the scene where James hugs Qrow show more of the mindset James has been in than their past relationship. James has been under a lot of stress and with Ozpin gone, he was glad just to see an old friend regardless of how close they may have been. It was a glimmer of comfort from the old days.

He would likely to as not want to sacrifice any Faunus lives unless he thought it would be a supreme necessity. Perhaps he was blamed for the accident and the SDC overseers punished him for it. The fact he was branded would be a great motivating force to change him from young revolutionary to ruthless reactionary terrorist. I can even understand how that works. However, I have always found Adam's treatment of Blake to be very controlling and abusive. I could see a way to understand his actions in his journey from Activist to Revolutionary to Terrorist, given the above hypothesis about these events and his possible role in them. But his behavior towards Blake? No...I have IRL experience in that area, and I have more respect for Roman and more sympathy for both Ironwood and Lionheart, but only contempt for Taurus. But it's all conjecture and fun mental exercise really, unless or until someone writes such in one of the mangas or graphic comics that CREWBY approves and makes it canonical. So with Marrow (the Doggo Faunus military guy) you might have noticed that his weapon is basically him playing Fetch and then his Semblance allows him to freeze someone in place with the command to "Stay." He just REALLY leaned in to reminding folks that he is a dog faunus.
All I will say is they were very clever about dropping the hints about Penny, before promptly redirecting your attention so you don't have time to think about it, then snapping you back to it and out of the epic fight scene.
The silhouettes remind me of Teen Titans from Cartton Network, and so does the score from the first chapter when they are fighting the sabertooth grimm in mantle.
One thing to remember about Ruby keeping her secrets is that the events of these episodes take place only 3-4 weeks after the events in Haven. It's natural for the team to be cautious after the last person they trusted (Lionheart) betrayed them not that long ago.
Top that off with Ozpin withholding information about the relics, Salem, and not having a plan to stop her. Ruby is smart to play it cautiously with Ironwood.

I have to say I was not a fan of Weiss and Yang's new looks. I prefer Biker-Chick Yang from the Mistral Arc and I thought Weiss' look was too cumbersome. Ruby's update was absolutely beautiful, made her look much older and more confident. I'm kind of Neutral on Blake's hair.
I think Blake heard Yang's heart beating faster and she looked up to see, her ears were twitching for a sec before she looked at Yang. I love the bee moments!! 🖤💛🐝
@@sigma--boss7098 Cats can hear when something is wrong with another's heart. I've seen three different cases of cats with Heart issues being more calmly interacted with, so I wouldn't consider it out of the question for Blake to hear Yang's heartbeat.

Happy Huntresses, because Merry Maidens would be too on-the-nose... and potentially confusing? If Ironwood was worried about raised flags in Mantle, maybe he should've upgraded the cyber security down there too. It's obviously still the perfect infiltration point to the kingdom, and he should have accounted for 'whoever' hacked everything in Vale. That said, while I don't think he and Qrow were ever close, his human half probably needed that hug. We *finally* see Blake's landing strategy! (Oh, and Jaune finally has one, too.) They also answer a question people have been asking since the train crash, that aura can protect you from the cold... for a while. Ironwood has always been a good counterpoint to Ozpin, and now it feels like things have switched around, and Ruby is making the questionable decisions. Yay for character growth! This is probably the mine Ilia's parents died in. That was dogboy's semblance, it's ironic. Clover has absolutely no leverage to pull the geist out like that, but that's Remnant physics for you, always bowing to the rule of cool. And it *is* a cool chapter! We get to see our heroes' upgrades, and we get to see the Ace Ops in action.
I'm glad you didn't get spoiled on Penny's return. The Volume 8 trailer that Rooster Teeth were playing automatically on a lot of videos had Penny front and center right at the start, so I was worried you'd see a bit of it before being able to stop/skip the trailer Also, if you remember Ilia's backstory, her parents died from an explosion in a SDC dust mine. I don't know if it's ever been confirmed or denied to be this mine, but that may well explain why Blake seemed to remember a bit about it, if she read about the disaster that affected her friend that way. And I'll be curious to see if you're the Jealous type. A lot of common Qrow ships being present in the next season or so
The track record of Academy Headmasters being on the up n level has been pretty bad for our heroes. So Ruby played Oz's game- she didn't lie to Ironwood- she answered his exact question about the relic truthfully. Once upon a time, Salem was a God-Queen among men.... why did she play Oz's game and fade into the shadows for the past few thousand years? "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." Ironwood has a point- Oz game plan hasn't worked for so long, time to try something new. That plan for Amity has a VERY narrow spot to operate. You can lift up to the point where the wings of flying grimm can't reach them to it, but too high and dust stops working.....
All the new characters are based off of fairy tales. Robin Hill and The Happy Huntresses are "Robin Hood & The Marry Men." The Ace ops are all different ones. Clover is "The Lucky Fishermen Harriet is "The Hare" from the tortoise and the hare Elm & Vine are "The Elm & The Vine" Marrow is "The Boy who cried Wolf"
Clover is based on two different characters: 1) The Fisherman from Æsop's fable called "A Fisherman's Good Luck." 2) David from Camp Camp. They even gave him the same face and stupid haircut. 3) Yes, there IS a ship of him with Qrow.
The new outfits caused a lot of controversy when this came out. XD I’ll admit even I had some trouble liking them, but they kinda grew on me, though personally I still dont like Blake’s haircut, I liked her long pretty hair more.
Technically, Ruby didn't lie about what Ozpin told them about the relic. He DID say all the questions were used up already. Also: The return of the landing strategies! xD
_Technically_ Ozpin never actually said they were used up right now. He said they were all used before he sealed the lamp away, but he didn't say how long ago that was. Evidently only one of the questions was still within the 100 years limit by that time. But yes, he definitely phrased it such that they'd think that they were all currently used up. He did also explicitly say "you won't be able to use it", but that's because he hadn't told them the password.

You said that we know there is no way to defeat Salem... Jinn never said that, Oz's question was how to destroy her, and Jinn said she couldn't be. That is different from defeating her.
You also have to look at how the question and answer were phrased. Oz asked "How can I destroy Salem" and Jinn replied "You Can't". Nothing says that someone else can't destroy Salem, only that Ozpin can't do it.

Lying to Ironwood here I think is the worst decision Ruby has made in the entire series. I understand why she thought she needed to but the possible ramifications even from an outside perspective watching this episode for the first time are clear.
In retrospect, perhaps. But he was already making very poor decisions about Mantle security and the safety of the people. There's a pretty good chance that things would have gone down the same way in the end -- only worse, because they didn't get the weapon and training upgrades, and the other things that happened the rest of this season.
This volume is a bit... Divisive within the FNDM. Starting with Ruby's lie. I mean honestly starting with the air ship. That stupid stupid ship I've gotten into many arguments about that thing >_>
It's my personal favorite, but I agree it has its problems. I'm also of the mindset that this volume was like 26 episodes crammed into 13. As for the airship, I don't get why Cordovan wouldn't give them something like a letter of introduction or let Atlas know that they're on their way, or hell escort them herself.

Eh. 7x02 is probably one of the more annoying moments in RWBY for me due to the Ironwood situation. It always just comes off as RWBY being unreasonable because the plot needs it to happen for the sake of drama. At the absolute most, it's been maybe a year since Beacon was wiped out and Vale was attacked, and we've heard from at least one or two sources at this point that one of the last things people around the world saw before the feed cut out was Atlas mechs attacking civilians alongside the grimm and White Fang. The embargo and military recall seem a bit intimidating and unsettling at a glance, sure, but when you consider that the White Fang has always aggressively targeted Atlas (and specifically the SDC), that Atlas is likely one of Salem's next targets, and that it's entirely possible that the other nations of Remnant might be prepping for war due to suspicions over Atlas's involvement in Beacon/Vale...the embargo and heavily increased military presence are honestly pretty sensible. It doesn't help that prior to Ruby deciding to lie, Ironwood responded to them illegally entering the city on a stolen military airship by immediately releasing them from custody after they were arrested and then telling them everything he was planning to do, as well as explaining his reasoning for everything they were suspicious about. The guy revealed top secret classified information to them without a moment's hesitation. That alone is a pretty solid show of trust, but even more so when you consider that - with the exception of Qrow - Ironwood doesn't actually have much reason to trust most of them either. Aside from Weiss (who he probably at least knows casually due to her family) and Qrow, he's known most of them for less than a year, and literally just met Oscar. He barely directly interacted with them a handful of times, and at least two of those put them in pretty suspicious positions - he walked in on Ruby completely by herself in a communications tower with a bunch of his men dead or injured and never appeared to even consider her a suspect (and given that they needed a description of her attacker the next day, it seems they didn't have any clear surveillance to show that Ruby didn't just do it herself), and he took Yang entirely at her word that she thought Mercury was attacking her regardless of video evidence and thousands of witnesses suggesting the contrary. The guy has been so trusting of this group of teenagers he barely knows that I can only assume he trusts them purely by virtue of Oz and Qrow vouching for them, or that he's just so ridiculously trusting that it borders on outright gullibility. TL;DR Version since I tend to ramble: Ruby and the others lying to Ironwood here just feels really, really contrived, because not only has he given little to no reason to distrust him, but he's basically been completely open with them and given them the benefit of the doubt at every opportunity. Weird thing is, it's an easy fix too: Just reverse the order of events here. Have them lie to him *before* he tells them his plan, when the only recent thing they have to judge him on are the things that made them suspicious, and they don't tell him afterwards because they're not sure how to turn around and tell someone that just trusted them with some of his military's most important secrets "Oh, btw, we totally lied to your face a few minutes ago."
One good deed doesn't automatically earn you trust. Yes, Ironwood provided them top secret info. But Ironwood is also INCREDIBLY paranoid. We dunno how he'd react if he found out Salem can't be killed. He may just completely lose hope and shut down and make things worse
@@sidous471 First of all, I feel pretty confident in saying that people who are extremely paranoid aren't particularly well known for telling near-strangers their most closely guarded secrets. "Sure he told them top secret information, but they can't trust him because he's super paranoid" probably isn't the most solid argument in defense of their actions here. Second, I'd hardly call it "one good deed." Nearly everything they've seen the man do up to this point, save for the embargo and recall of the military, has been explicitly for the benefit of others. And even those two issues are both geared towards helping, even if he can't make the reason for them public. You can make an argument that his good deeds backfired, certainly, but that doesn't change the fact that the entirety of their experience with the man involved him making an effort to help people.

Aside from only one member of their party having ever met him, Leo was also constantly fighting them on every attempt they made to get anything done. Ironwood, on the other hand, has repeatedly and consistently made an effort to help both them and the people of Remnant in general, and given them more than a few shows of trust during the time they've known him. If you disregard any and all context that defines the relationships between different characters, then you can use that same reasoning for pretty much every character in the show. For instance, "Well there certainly were no bad consequences for giving complete trust to Emerald, were there?" could be easily used to argue that Ruby shouldn't trust Weiss, just so long as we ignore that they're completely different characters who have completely different histories and relationships with each other.
@@VenathTehN3RD Ironwood trusted them with that info because he needed more allies and since they were already in the loop, they were his best choice. If that wasn't the case, he probably would have still thrown them in jail, except for Qrow. And really, think about this from our protagonists' perspective: the last authority figure they trusted(Leo) lied to them and tried to sell them out to Cinder, followed by all the revelations about Ozpin, meaning they made the smart choice by not being honest with Ironwood from the get-go. Given the state Atlas was in when they got there, the truth about Salem most likely would have made him give up on the spot and make some bad decisions.
I hate this season mostly cause of how they treat ironwood he's my favorite character of the entire show and his plans make the most sense to me it's one of the worst decisions ruby makes to not trust him and in my opinion, she's completely responsible for what happens as a result no spoilers obviously great reaction though that's just my thoughts curious what you guys think

Happy Huntresses, because Merry Maidens would be too on-the-nose... and potentially confusing? If Ironwood was worried about raised flags in Mantle, maybe he should've upgraded the cyber security down there too. It's obviously still the perfect infiltration point to the kingdom, and he should have accounted for 'whoever' hacked everything in Vale. That said, while I don't think he and Qrow were ever close, his human half probably needed that hug.
We *finally* see Blake's landing strategy! (Oh, and Jaune finally has one, too.) They also answer a question people have been asking since the train crash, that aura can protect you from the cold... for a while. Ironwood has always been a good counterpoint to Ozpin, and now it feels like things have switched around, and Ruby is making the questionable decisions. Yay for character growth! This is probably the mine Ilia's parents died in. That was dogboy's semblance, it's ironic. Clover has absolutely no leverage to pull the geist out like that, but that's Remnant physics for you, always bowing to the rule of cool. And it *is* a cool chapter! We get to see our heroes' upgrades, and we get to see the Ace Ops in action.

I'm glad you didn't get spoiled on Penny's return. The Volume 8 trailer that Rooster Teeth were playing automatically on a lot of videos had Penny front and center right at the start, so I was worried you'd see a bit of it before being able to stop/skip the trailer
Also, if you remember Ilia's backstory, her parents died from an explosion in a SDC dust mine. I don't know if it's ever been confirmed or denied to be this mine, but that may well explain why Blake seemed to remember a bit about it, if she read about the disaster that affected her friend that way.

The track record of Academy Headmasters being on the up n level has been pretty bad for our heroes. So Ruby played Oz's game- she didn't lie to Ironwood- she answered his exact question about the relic truthfully.

That plan for Amity has a VERY narrow spot to operate. You can lift up to the point where the wings of flying grimm can't reach them to it, but too high and dust stops working.....

1) The Fisherman from Æsop's fable called "A Fisherman's Good Luck."
2) David from Camp Camp. They even gave him the same face and stupid haircut.

I’ll admit even I had some trouble liking them, but they kinda grew on me, though personally I still dont like Blake’s haircut, I liked her long pretty hair more.
Technically, Ruby didn't lie about what Ozpin told them about the relic. He DID say all the questions were used up already.

_Technically_ Ozpin never actually said they were used up right now. He said they were all used before he sealed the lamp away, but he didn't say how long ago that was. Evidently only one of the questions was still within the 100 years limit by that time.
But yes, he definitely phrased it such that they'd think that they were all currently used up.
He did also explicitly say "you won't be able to use it", but that's because he hadn't told them the password.

You said that we know there is no way to defeat Salem... Jinn never said that, Oz's question was how to destroy her, and Jinn said she couldn't be. That is different from defeating her.
You also have to look at how the question and answer were phrased. Oz asked "How can I destroy Salem" and Jinn replied "You Can't". Nothing says that someone else can't destroy Salem, only that Ozpin can't do it.

Lying to Ironwood here I think is the worst decision Ruby has made in the entire series. I understand why she thought she needed to but the possible ramifications even from an outside perspective watching this episode for the first time are clear.
In retrospect, perhaps. But he was already making very poor decisions about Mantle security and the safety of the people. There's a pretty good chance that things would have gone down the same way in the end -- only worse, because they didn't get the weapon and training upgrades, and the other things that happened the rest of this season.

This volume is a bit... Divisive within the FNDM. Starting with Ruby's lie. I mean honestly starting with the air ship. That stupid stupid ship I've gotten into many arguments about that thing >_>
It's my personal favorite, but I agree it has its problems. I'm also of the mindset that this volume was like 26 episodes crammed into 13. As for the airship, I don't get why Cordovan wouldn't give them something like a letter of introduction or let Atlas know that they're on their way, or hell escort them herself.

Eh. 7x02 is probably one of the more annoying moments in RWBY for me due to the Ironwood situation. It always just comes off as RWBY being unreasonable because the plot needs it to happen for the sake of drama. At the absolute most, it's been maybe a year since Beacon was wiped out and Vale was attacked, and we've heard from at least one or two sources at this point that one of the last things people around the world saw before the feed cut out was Atlas mechs attacking civilians alongside the grimm and White Fang. The embargo and military recall seem a bit intimidating and unsettling at a glance, sure, but when you consider that the White Fang has always aggressively targeted Atlas (and specifically the SDC), that Atlas is likely one of Salem's next targets, and that it's entirely possible that the other nations of Remnant might be prepping for war due to suspicions over Atlas's involvement in Beacon/Vale...the embargo and heavily increased military presence are honestly pretty sensible.
It doesn't help that prior to Ruby deciding to lie, Ironwood responded to them illegally entering the city on a stolen military airship by immediately releasing them from custody after they were arrested and then telling them everything he was planning to do, as well as explaining his reasoning for everything they were suspicious about. The guy revealed top secret classified information to them without a moment's hesitation. That alone is a pretty solid show of trust, but even more so when you consider that - with the exception of Qrow - Ironwood doesn't actually have much reason to trust most of them either.
Aside from Weiss (who he probably at least knows casually due to her family) and Qrow, he's known most of them for less than a year, and literally just met Oscar. He barely directly interacted with them a handful of times, and at least two of those put them in pretty suspicious positions - he walked in on Ruby completely by herself in a communications tower with a bunch of his men dead or injured and never appeared to even consider her a suspect (and given that they needed a description of her attacker the next day, it seems they didn't have any clear surveillance to show that Ruby didn't just do it herself), and he took Yang entirely at her word that she thought Mercury was attacking her regardless of video evidence and thousands of witnesses suggesting the contrary. The guy has been so trusting of this group of teenagers he barely knows that I can only assume he trusts them purely by virtue of Oz and Qrow vouching for them, or that he's just so ridiculously trusting that it borders on outright gullibility.
TL;DR Version since I tend to ramble: Ruby and the others lying to Ironwood here just feels really, really contrived, because not only has he given little to no reason to distrust him, but he's basically been completely open with them and given them the benefit of the doubt at every opportunity. Weird thing is, it's an easy fix too: Just reverse the order of events here. Have them lie to him *before* he tells them his plan, when the only recent thing they have to judge him on are the things that made them suspicious, and they don't tell him afterwards because they're not sure how to turn around and tell someone that just trusted them with some of his military's most important secrets "Oh, btw, we totally lied to your face a few minutes ago."
One good deed doesn't automatically earn you trust. Yes, Ironwood provided them top secret info. But Ironwood is also INCREDIBLY paranoid. We dunno how he'd react if he found out Salem can't be killed. He may just completely lose hope and shut down and make things worse

@@sidous471 First of all, I feel pretty confident in saying that people who are extremely paranoid aren't particularly well known for telling near-strangers their most closely guarded secrets. "Sure he told them top secret information, but they can't trust him because he's super paranoid" probably isn't the most solid argument in defense of their actions here.
Second, I'd hardly call it "one good deed." Nearly everything they've seen the man do up to this point, save for the embargo and recall of the military, has been explicitly for the benefit of others. And even those two issues are both geared towards helping, even if he can't make the reason for them public. You can make an argument that his good deeds backfired, certainly, but that doesn't change the fact that the entirety of their experience with the man involved him making an effort to help people.

Aside from only one member of their party having ever met him, Leo was also constantly fighting them on every attempt they made to get anything done. Ironwood, on the other hand, has repeatedly and consistently made an effort to help both them and the people of Remnant in general, and given them more than a few shows of trust during the time they've known him.
If you disregard any and all context that defines the relationships between different characters, then you can use that same reasoning for pretty much every character in the show. For instance, "Well there certainly were no bad consequences for giving complete trust to Emerald, were there?" could be easily used to argue that Ruby shouldn't trust Weiss, just so long as we ignore that they're completely different characters who have completely different histories and relationships with each other.
@@VenathTehN3RD Ironwood trusted them with that info because he needed more allies and since they were already in the loop, they were his best choice. If that wasn't the case, he probably would have still thrown them in jail, except for Qrow. And really, think about this from our protagonists' perspective: the last authority figure they trusted(Leo) lied to them and tried to sell them out to Cinder, followed by all the revelations about Ozpin, meaning they made the smart choice by not being honest with Ironwood from the get-go. Given the state Atlas was in when they got there, the truth about Salem most likely would have made him give up on the spot and make some bad decisions.
I hate this season mostly cause of how they treat ironwood he's my favorite character of the entire show and his plans make the most sense to me it's one of the worst decisions ruby makes to not trust him and in my opinion, she's completely responsible for what happens as a result no spoilers obviously great reaction though that's just my thoughts curious what you guys think
