Jerry Douglas makes me wretch. Saw him live in Jacksonville Oregon at the Britt Festival. He was the warm up act for Del McCoury (sp) Unkempt, name dropper, self absorbed, he was supposed to play for 30 minutes and then introduce his band. He played solo for over 45 minutes, never ending, ethereal, unmusical blather. Please Lord, tell him to stop. He finally quit and introduced his likewise unkempt, slovenly crew, Jerry was grand standing. The guitarist had to be stoned, the fiddle player was way out of tune, and a mess, (my wife is a professional violinist) They played over their time. Finally, they stopped over 1/2 hour past their time. Del and band came on.. what dramatic difference .. TheE were well dressed, in tune, thanked the audience, and proceeded to present one of the finest performances I have seen. Main difference, respect for the audience.
I can see what you mean. He couldn't even remember the venue was at The Egg in Albany NY. A place I've seen Sweet David at multiple times. The acoustics there are phenomenal!
