I don't think I've ever seen a game where it's spawned so many sacrifice tables. It's like watching a striving child turn down food time and time again; it's heartbreaking! lol
This video reminded me why you are my favorite LPer.

One thing I recommend Northernlion does is get the crystal blade from the worm level. Either on the jungle or the ice caves is fine, and essentially, you get an extra health just for entering, since you have to carry Monty into the "sweaty orange ball."
NL's beginning commentary about exponential and linear made me think "Yeah, your progress was more linear with an upwards slope, but now it's kind of a random polynomial that varies between up and donwards arcs, with the greatest maximum being when he got Olmec to be next to the Hell entrance (but not directly at it) then dying to a frog from the Heavens." Math nerd will get this.
Also, "Trading one health for an item is a pretty good deal" *Never tries the self-sacrifice/spike rooms in Isaac.*
You didn't even have to sacrafice monty, you were handed opportunities to sacrafice knocked out enemies right by the shrine.
Spelunky is the best of your series IMO
Michaelalfox kills shopkeepers for items.
Northernlion avoids killing shopkeepers like the plague.
Michaelalfox just beat hell.
Northernlion has even gotten there.
What can we deduce from these facts, children?
The ghost will stop and pose for the photo, but it doesn't kill it. There's no way to kill it. In the PC version of the game the Hedjet prevents the ghost from appearing at all, but that was changed in the 360 version
I lold so hard when he try to run from the thwomp...he almost got away too!
I wonder how long it's going to take people to realize NL plays many episodes in a row.. renders them and posts them in order. He reads the comments but you won't hear about it for 3 - 4 episodes when he has the next batch done.. plz Thumbs up this so the people crying about not listening can see this.

Northernlion, if you sacrifice 2 or 3 monty's on the altar, you get the kapala, which is easily going to give you 5 health or more, so you should pretty much always prioritize that
i couldn't possibly imagine how you could fuck this up, yet, you did it again.

Sacrifiicing two dogs gives you the kappala which gives you more health as you collect more blood throughout the rest of the playthrough, Ryan. When you see the opportunity, even if you only have 3 health--take it.

You need to sacrifice the dead enemies on the floor to kali. Disturbing how many opportunities you are missing because you are not sacrificing enemies.

Sacrificing Monty for the Kapala at 3 health is an EASY trade.
Remember you're talking to Ryan...and we all know how the roots of Ryan's ideas grow deeply into his brain.... :D

Have you also noticed that that first one was fired before Anubis was not close to the wall while the others were. It would of made, and if not very close.

You saw it because you weren't playing, just watching. NL was playing, and had his eyes directed towards the death god with the scary, glowy scepter. It could've happened to anyone.

You have to understand, Northernlion used to kill shopkeepers all the time. But, because of that, he always died on the next floor... to an angry shopkeeper. He made zero progress when he was killing shopkeepers.
Were you watching the video? He was getting away from Anubis's instakill shots.

Ryan, the kapala isnt rare, its actually quite common because you get it everytime you sacrifice your 2nd Monty on the altar.

I have to say, it's rather ironic that Shopkeepers drop money when they die, considering you won't need money for the rest of the run you're on. I guess it's so you can go high risk, high reward by killing all shopkeepers to increase your final score.
I can't believe he didn't sacrifice the damsel for that second time. Jesus Ryan, the game is practically screaming at you to get the Kapala at this point.
Ryan.. you do realize that sacrificing the dog twice will get you the blood cup right? Its very smart to get it as soon as possible
Indeed. I won't argue and say that Northernlion should not be paying more attention to advice from comments, but people should not be so emotionally invested in his playthroughs either. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his 65 episodes through better or worse. If people seriously find it painful to watch this, they need to common sense to post criticism a couple times and then stop posting and stop watching his Spelunky videos indefinitely.

Geez NL, after watching michaelalfox's episode, I saw that he made it through but with 10 HP, over 30 bombs, jetpack, climbing gloves and a shotgun at the start. Sooo, I think it is still long way ahead of you, but we will be here!

i dont think he has had it often enough yet to realize just how INCREDIBLY overpowered and usefull it can be, especially after having used the ankh.
Ryan, you and michael should do more playthroughs together. He will slow you down towards more efficiency and you can show him more effective combat, you will both profit. And i hope you get shown to use the bloody kapala :D

The reason why you never get it is because you never sacrifice Monty even when you had so many chances this run. It's guaranteed after two dog sacrifices. It's like the BOOK OF REVELATIONS in Issac. I understand if you had 1 health left and needed more, but please try to make sacrificing more of a priority.
Thank you for taking your time to post consistently enjoyable videos. Keep doing your thing and don't let the negativity of some of the comments bring you down. Just look at the ratio of likes to dislikes. Trolls are just louder. Thumbs down if you're a troll who hates the fact people like his content.
No you can't. This is one of the things that changed from the PC version to the 360 version. Spike shoes do nothing again the plant other than give him some indigestion when he swallows you.

You could have had it during that run.
There was no other way. The back was blocked off from the beams. The only way was to the left, and quickly.
And to think I'm watching this one day after playing the PC version, having to kill a shopkeeper to uncover the Black Market, lol.
And now to see how well Ryan does.
WHY is he persistantly refusing to sacrifice enemies and montys? We've been commenting on how strong it is for like what, 30 episodes?
Uh part of the fun is watching him figure stuff out on his own and not crying about it in the comments.

First of all, it's easy to for us, the viewers to see the thwomp, but a player might not because he's going to be misdirected by Anubis. I mean, just look at him! He's flying around and flashing with deadly pink lights!
You're right about the not sprinting thing. Still distracted by Anubis, however, and being pressed for time and Anubis' tracking skills, it's reasonable that anyone would feel the pressure.
Is that second paragraph making excuses? Well, sometimes you live, but sometimes you die.

The Kappala isn't that rare - just sacrifice Monty twice. There were oodles of altars throughout this run, it would have been so easy for you!
He does sacrifice the dogs occasionally, just not if he's not comfortable with his amount of health. Can't blame someone for wanting health over an item they he may already have or that might be useless to them..

That's a common problem, not just with NL but with any popular youtuber - and for anybody who exceeds some threhold of popularity anywhere in the internet, actually. At some point they get so much comments the puny human mind is just unable to parse this amount of traffic. So if you comment in any channel that has more than, like, 10k subscribers, it's unreasonable to expect that the owner will actually read it. Still might happen, but very unlikely.
I have noticed a trend... Northernlion talks about how he's going to be successful, then dies. To win, Northern, you must be a sad man.

The top of the ladder is not even close, there were like four more behind the one that got there. They would of killed him.

Saying it's progress to get to the same place you've been 15 times already isn't progress. It gives you a false sense of accomplishment and only hurts your chances of getting to hell. When you continue to think you're doing well, you'll only restart the cycle when you don't get the hedjet or get to the black market. In other words, it's better to say you're having a bad run even if you get to the city of gold or Olmec.

If ya don't like it, don't watch it. There are plenty of other players on UA-cam you can go and watch who are very good at the game you can watch if you want that, Northernlion isn't going to change just for YOU. (unless he does)
