I’ve had a ridiculous amount of fun and wins with Evelyn in Brawl on arena, was wondering about how she’d do in commander. Glad I found your video, it’s well made, well informed, and made for a good time!
Great video! I think some other cards I was thinking of putting in was Lantern of Insight, Empress Galina, or Agent of treachery. I also really like the idea of bounce effects like Anchor to the Æther, Forced Retreat, or Memory Lapse. Cool dech tech!
I really like the idea of Anchor, Forced Retreat, and Memory Lapse. With some good sequencing you could steal some really cool cards on top of removal/denying your opponents value. Great suggestions! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I know this card came out after this deck tech, but I think a great mention is displacer kitten. That way whenever you cast an opponents (or your own) noncreature spell you can flicker evelyn, allowing you to cast another one in the turn (and get a new set of cards to work with from her re-entering the battlefield). Though this does have a possible solitaire issue as you mentioned, but you do only have so much mana to work with in a given turn rotation, unless you steal alot of really good ramp from the green player.
I built my Evelyn deck to be a lot more madness themed. I didn’t want to be limited to Rakdos colors with something like Anje, so I looked into Grixis commanders. Evelyn has vampire themes, which often have madness themes, so I thought they’d fit. Evelyn provides good card advantage to make up for the amount of cards discarded each turn to various effects. Once Squee and or Master of Death gets discarded, the value loops can get pretty nutty. Also, even if you’re not doing a madness theme, Call the Bloodline is a great way to generate card advantage by turning each card you draw into 4 to your collection as well as a 1/1 lifelink token for chumping.
@@MadHatterYT It’s kind’ve hit or miss. Sometimes, it just doesn’t find the looters to fuel the discard synergies. Sometimes, there just aren’t any vampires to trigger Evelyn because the deck has so many non-vampire madness synergies. But when it works it makes for a fun and unique deck.

With this deck my play group will have all of the probably 4 best vamp tribal deck. Buddy with edgar and olvia and me with elenda and Evelyn our other buddy has a monoblack vamp tribal thats pretty good too
@@MadHatterYTya love this deck and it's suspiciously good at sneaking under opponents aggro or combo since copy effects make Evelyn almost play like mill. Also you get access to runo stromkirk and blood tyrant and as if making copies of krakens leviathans and octos twice was scary imaging copying blood tyrant 2 or 3 times
With Tasha, the Witch Queen currently being spoiled, I highly recommend running it in this deck. Since her passive ability doesn't care what source you're casting spells from, you'll make 3/3 demons every time you cast something from among cards exiled with Evelyn. Her other abilities are less efficient compared to Evelyn, but her +1 gives added card draw and some graveyard hate. As LapaChorao suggested, with Maskwood Nexus out these 3/3s could trigger Evelyn also. Good luck out there everyone!
For Evelyn, I would strongly, strongly recommend adding Grixis vampires such as _Cormela, Glamour Thief,_ and _Don Andres, the Renegade._ Cormela gives you ramp on a stick by giving you Grixis mana (U, B, and R mana) for instants and sorceries, and with Haste, you can use her immediately. Additionally, when she dies, you can add an instant or sorcery from your graveyard back to your hand! Don Andres, meanwhile, is one of the few cards in the game that directly interacts with "cards you control but don't own" by turning your stolen creatures into absolute monsters with +2/+2, menace and deathtouch; and as the icing on the cake, every time you cast a noncreature spell you don't own, Don Andres gives you 2 tapped treasure tokens!! Those two are an auto-include for every Evelyn deck, IMO.
great video this is exactly what i was looking for i created a basis for my deck but i wanted a bit more guidance to see how i can truly get value of this commander. don't get me wrong i love edgar since i have one as well but theft is something at always peaked my interest. Ill just make 2 vampire decks that function differently :D
I think I like Evelyn more than Markov. Mardu Vampires is great but I love the sneakiness Grixis Vampires can provide and also the Evelyn feels like they are more flexible in deck building choices than Markov. The deck I designed mostly just grows with +1/+1 counters because vamps gotta' feed but as a ''fun'' alternative win con I use Splinter Twin and Dominating Vampire + 2 other vampires initially to set off an infinite vampire token combo exiling as much of each players library as I want. I love that the new Blood tokens play well with Madness giving new usage to Falkenrath Gorger giving all your Vampires the potential for Madness LOL PS: Tidal Barracuda can be pretty fun as another Vedalken Orrery effect :P
Splinter twin / dom vampire combo is actually pretty funny lmao that would enable labman style wins with this deck. Exiling your own library until you can cast thassa's oracle or something. Thanks for the suggestion with Tidal Barracuda! That's a solid include for this deck. Even if we provide flash to our opponents its worth it to be able to cast w/e we want from the exile piles. Not being able to interact with us on our turns is huge too if we're looking to finish the game. Thanks for the suggestion!
I havent played mine yet but id say we have 75% similar builds. I auto included helm of the host as my ability to copy evelyn every turn. I also included prosper tome bound and wand of wonder
If you're looking for another budget card to replace kindred discovery/rhystic study. Coastal piracy is a third bident-like effect to work with. Edit: Also I didn't want to make a third comment but if you want a cheaper way to clone your commander to replace sakashima of 1000 faces, you can run irenicus' vile duplication
I didn't think so originally, but looking into your question I found out you can! You can cast one spell a turn PER Evelyn you have. With that in mind I'd highly recommend running Helm of the Host in her deck also.
