Served from 82-91, filed in 2018 and received my rating. It’s never too late, it’s all about medical evidence.

@@rannell1 You have to be able to link your current disabilities to something that began or was aggravated in service. If you can do that, absolutely file.

That's pretty much my story. It took me over 26 years to finally file my claim because I didn't think it was in my medical records and MST is very hard to prove. I went ahead and filed, I got approved 70% then a year later I refiled my claim and within a month they increased it to 100% P&T unemployable. All I have to say is documentation is key.

@@emiliagarza6477 thank You for the inspiration, I'm awaiting answers now,, I filed after being out over 32 years , I was a Persian Gulf vet, that wasn't aware of the benefits, but I've started the process, and am now awaiting a rating determination,,🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤷🏽♂️ (story of so many people I encounter) , they/we just did not know !🤔 #gonavy
I also served in the US Army and just recently retired from Law Enforcement. I got out in 1986 and in the process of getting disability benefits. So far 10% for Tinnitus.
Wish I had more in my records to help with my claims.
Thanks for making this video. After being out since 2015 and as a person that have not been following up on this as I should. I will at least start the process for my VA and lets see where it goes.
I retired in 2003 and didn't apply at all for disability. Thought I was too cool for that when I was 39 years old. Applied in July this year (2022) and received 50% VA disability in November 2022. Can't believe I waited so long (19 years) and I feel the same way you do for waiting so long. Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. Now I'm going back to the VA to see if I can increase my disability rating. Kudos to you for putting the word out there for all of us Veterans. Bless you and your family!
Same here, i got out in 2003 and have not filed as of today. Will be doing this sometime this week. I was working as a unit supply/Armorer and I did a lot of lifting. Today, I have lower back pain, plantar fasciitis and amongst other things. I hope I can get a rating from VA.
I received a general discharge in 1983 and moved out of California to the UK. I've never used any benefits, and I'm concerned that I need help. Is it possible for me while I'm still living here in the UK? I never saw combat and have all my limbs so feel undeserving but have been carrying mental scars that caused me my first marriage.
i served for 5 years and never really complained about my back too much but after three years out I have a pinched nerve in my back it comes and goes but hurts like hell every time, I haven't lifted anything heavy since my time in the military and im only 27 years old but I don't know if I could apply for some disability or if it would even be considered to be anywhere near 10 percent or higher. I'm not looking or an easy out but I know for sure my back is screwed because of the heavy lifting Ive done in the military.
Im in the same boat as you are. I was in Supply/ Armorer and we did a lot of lifting. I have the same lower back issues as you have and probably add to it are the sciatica with the radiating pain going through your leg. This happens to me all the time. I feel your pain brother. Going to apply soon and hoping for a rating.
I'm a cop myself and been out of the army for 9 years. Did you find it difficult to get 100% because of you being a cop
Hey brother, prior service Army here. Been out for almost three years now, I want to file but I am afraid I won't get anything. Can you help me? I never went to sick call while on Active Duty due to pride, etc. Now, I don't have any medical evidence of anything, also haven't been to the civilian doctor either. I've experienced wrist pain ever since getting out, now back and knee pain as well. My wife says I may have sleep apnea as she cannot sleep when I'm snoring and she says I sometimes stop snoring for a few moments. Anything helps, thank you.
I work a full time job and I'm also a full time student as well. I am married with a 2 year old and one along the way. I am extremely busy and I know these sound like excuses but I could sure use some help.
Should I go to the VA hospital or see a civilian doctor?

Any tips for someone who never went to sick call while in the military to go about filing for a claim?
Did you use VACI, CCK or what assistance did you use to help you with your claims or did you do it all on your own.
Been out for 13 yrs, been in law enforcement for the last 10 yrs. I get what you mean working several jobs, I work EJs/ side jobs to make sure we have a decent living.
@carlos g. I actually did a combination of working some on my own and then utilizing VACI (Before all the public backlash). I did educate myself with the claims process through literature and podcasts and yes with one of them being CCK's. The funny thing is I recently reached out to CCK for a family member but they didn't seem interested in taking the case. I wish you the best on your claim journey my blue brother!

There are tons info out there. I like to follow Combat Craig here. Make sure you review your medical service record. Have a current diagnosis and then get a nexus from your doctor, it’s basically linking your current diagnosis from your injury in service(some buy from a third party)

I have a chronic condition and found out when I was pregnant when I was in service. Can I get anything out of that?! I file the first time and they denied it because VA said there's no evidence even though I gave the VA a copy of my medical records. Should I file again?! Thanks!

I ETS'D in 2005 (15 yrs active army 7 years national guard) I finally received my medical records from the VA on a Compact Disk, I want to file I just don't want to screw up....I hear a lot of horror stories

hey, i have no idea where to start. recently i was injured at work and the QME told me to file for my VA disability. i never knew i was eligible for disability thru VA. i am looking at being being placed on permanent disability now. i would be greatful for any help.
I know a guy from college who served in the Reserve 24 years ago and got service-connected recently. He found his lost paperwork at his unit which detailed his in-service injuries, but was never sent to the National Archives or the VA. He is now 40%. If a Reserve guy can get it then it's possible for anyone as long as they have some evidence.

I served 1985-89 and didn't file then due to guilty feelings over reports of Vietnam vets struggling to win claims. I filed in 2021 and received 30% with healthcare. I'm thankful I kept my medical records all these years.

@Johnny Contreras, I don't believe so brother, although it can be highlighted as part of the circumstances one continually suffers from due to mental health issues.
How do I get stared after waiting 11 years
My husband was hit by a car in the military in 82 and has all records of it, all the drs notes of his injuries and all the complaints of pain for yrs. But the VA denied him saying they don’t have records of after he finished military. He complained to his primary for yrs and his dr retired and closed his office so the only records we have are the originals from his time on his ship which has everything. So frustrating that they they say it’s all arthritis
@Jeanine Brackin I'm sorry to hear that. Aside from the medical records you do have, the biggest piece of evidence you possess is your husbands Medical Out exam (if he mentioned it) before he ETSed from the Navy. I suggest watching our "Personal Statement" episode and have both of you write one with your claim. I suggest hiring legal representation to strategize your case appropriately then have them file for you guys. Most wont charge unless they win your case.

Just found out about this while applying for my real ID today. Served 93-97 but never went to sick call. I've got tendonitis in my shoulders and numbness in my hands which was very minor while I was in the service, but has since progressed. Without any medical records from the military is it worth applying for benefits? Thanks
Depends on your mos. If you have a buddy that you serve with that can write what guys went through during that time. Review your service records as sometimes we forget we went to med.
Thank you so much. My husband served 14 yrs and has avoided filing. We submitted a claim 8 yrs ago and it was denied. We recently submitted again and I’m lost on the next step.

My husband has been out 2.5 years after serving 12 in the Navy. He's just now starting this process. Is it beneficial to get a VSO? He has reached out to a few but hasn't heard back.

I EAS’d from the Corps 2 years ago. Due to Covid, the doctor highly recommended I waive a final physical. I have few medical logs from while I was in, but have since had exacerbated symptoms. Is there any hope for me trying?
Okay so I left Active duty over a year ago, however within the first year of me leaving active duty, I joined the reserves. Would the transition to reserves reset the one year separation? Additionally, upon leaving Active duty I claimed nothing was wrong with me because I was both afraid of being shamed for going to sick call as well as not being accepted in the reserves. How should I go about starting? Thank you.

I joined the army in 1981 and a month later I was diagnosed with perforated ear drum and was given a honorable medical discharge am I eligible for benefits? remember I had just started basic training only served less than 30 days.

How do I get my military medical records??
Brother you can check out the Military Personnel Records Center (NPRC-MPR), I'm sure their website will lead you to a specific form. I had to personally write-in a request back in the day. Or a local VSO can assist with retrieving it for you (Most offices are by phone appts. only).

I served honorably from 1990 to 2000 in the US Navy Submarine Service. Early in my service I developed sleep apnea (very severe case: > 100 episodes/hour). I finally had a formal sleep study in 2009 and have used my CPAP every day since. I have a twin brother who served from 1990 through 2020 and retired. He, too, has sleep apnea and received disability for this among other things when he departed his military service. I’d love to hear from ANYONE on this scenario on how to put together a package. Keeping in mind, no one even knew what sleep apnea was back in the early 1990's, so I have nothing in my medical records on the topic of sleep apnea. More recently, it appears that there are a ton of veterans who have claimed sleep apnea as a disability and received benefits accordingly. ** THANK YOU **
Check out what you have right now that is on the Pact Act. So you have rhinitis or sinusitis right now? Follow combat Craig also. There are tons of info regarding sleep apnea secondary to something.
Late comment here but came across this awesome video. I was discharged in March of 1994-Gulf War CVN-71 (24/7 flight operations). I have an appointment with a primary care at the Pensacola VA clinic to establish a primary care with the VA. I submitted my intent to file notice a few weeks ago. Iv'e documented in my discharge medical records of certain unknown conditions but have scribbled it out-I was told it was frowned upon for complaining. I've also seaked medical visits (private) since my 94 discharge-hearing, migraines, dizziness, anxiety...I can't get any of these records because the centers are no longer in business so I'm at a lost on how to obtain them. I have some medical records that go back to 2015 because they are accessible via hospital websites. Long story short, Should I start the process with filing and include my discharge medical record including some 2015 records that I have? I need to establish a service connection.
Go see your doctor again to get a current diagnosis. Read your service record again. Pull all your history records from all the private doctors you can get. Then you can get a nexus letter to link current diagnosis to your service. Certain current diagnosis like sleep apnea can be a secondary condition to allergic rhinitis or sinusitis which is under the Pact act if you serve in Persian gulf area during desert shield /storm. You don’t need a nexus if you have one of those diagnosis on their list. Check out combat Craig here.

I was involuntarily separated from the Air force 20 years ago after reporting being bullied and harassed which caused me severe anxiety and ptsd. It was an honorable discharge that was labeled as a personality disorder and they have denied me and I feel helpless and violated. I don't know what else I can do

Been out since 92. Desert Storm vet in a Battleship. Right hip replaced and left one has to get done. Was a gunner in 16 in gun turret lots of lifting , is it too late to file?

I filed after being out 31 years. I was having problems with feet, knees and back getting worse with the demands of work.
I had veteran-friends at work and neighbors, telling me I should file.
I spent a couple years talking myself in to and out of filing.
I requested my service records. I started requesting current medical records from all my civilian doctors.
All these years I was using my employer's health benefits to attend to my orthopedic issues.
I thought, I have great health insurance, no need to take benefits from a veteran who needs them.
I finally filed and got my feet, knees, back, and secondaries chronic pain, GERD, ankle and hip service connected.
It can be done.
Did you use a VSO to help you file?
@@urdude67 I did, for my first 2 claims, got to 90. I finally stumbled my way (tech challenged) through filing after that. VSO was great, their office was down to 1 person, so I felt I could tackle it on my own so he could help others with their claims.
