I am positive that there are many famous and successful Norwegians that I am not aware of as an American, which is exactly why I am very interested in today’s video. I am not sure if this video will include Norway’s celebrities, athletes, CEOs, inventors or other individuals that I am not even aware of, but I am very interested to find out. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
In music she should have mentioned Kygo, Alan Walker, Aurora, Astrid S, Matoma, Cashmere Cat, Stargate, Ina Wroldsen as well as the few she did mentioned.
Authors she should have mentioned Jo Nesbø which is a world famous author.
The movie Snowman with Michael Fassbender was based on one of his books.
Kristofer Hivju as a actor should be mentioned.
Karsten Warholm, Jacob Ingebrigtsen, Thor Hushovd, Aleksander Kristoff, Martin Ødegård, Erling Braut Haaland as athletes.
But I think this is a old video since she said Jens Stoltenberg is the current prime minister.
Cause he was prime minister until 2013.
i think angelina jordan is gonna be pretty big in the future aswell
Aqua Lene.
@@eirik874 In the future yes.
But not yet.
@@rytterl Yes.
Could also mentioned Christian Ingebrigtesn from A1, Viktor Hovland, Kasper Ruud, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Mads Zuccarello.
@@denisspratt926 She did mention Solskjær.
Erling Haaland and Magnus Carlson are probably the most internationally famous norwegians right now. Also Jens Stoltenberg who is now the Secretary General of NATO. Was noted in this video as prime minister which he is no longer.
Also Viktor Hovland
Ole gunnar solskjær . Lene Marlin. M2m . Kygo Alan walker
Yall forget Ylvis
i would Alan Walker is the most famous
@@Lokewin Kygo?
It's a shame this video was about 10 years old. A lot has happened since then. Would love for Tyler to react to a 2022 version of this.
Agreed.
Apologies! Unfortunately is was the only decent UA-cam video I could find on the subject
Yes, I thought it was an old video when she said there had only been one female PM because I'm pretty sure there was one fairly recently.
@@TylerWalkerUA-cam Don't be sorry. 😊
But now you know better why you might not know all that many.
This video is a bit outdated, the prime minister she mentioned left office in 2013 (he is now NATO general secretary)
Ylvis is from Norway. Known for What does the fox say. Wonder why she didn't mention them.
Edit: Ah, this must be an old video you're watching, as we've had 8 years of another female prime minister since then.
Because That International fame lasted for 3 months and that song dont earn them a spot.
Weird how she didn't mention Edvard Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King", easily the most famous Norwegian classical piece of music.
One Norwegian musician that flies completely under the radar is Thomas Bergersen and his trailer music company Two Steps From Hell. If you have seen any commercial, movie trailer or documentary in the past decade, you are guaranteed to have heard his music.
Well, she didn't even get the the name of "Morgenstemning" correct.
I mentioned this as well here, glad someone also felt it had to be pointed out. A lot of people know it, without probably knowing who created it.
I will also mention Sonia Henie that was an ice skating Oympian in the 1930s and also starred in several Hollywood movies at that time.
I agree
Worldwide famous Norwegians from the last decade: Magnus Carlsen (chess), Erling Haaland (football), Kygo (music), Alan Walker (music), Viktor Hovland (golf), Casper Ruud (tennis), Kristofer Hivju ("Tormund" from Game of Thrones), Jens Stoltenberg (NATO).
I've only mentioned those you show a picture/video/audio of to random people on the street, 50% will say they've seen/heard of them.
There are some Norwegians that became famous after moving to the US. The most famous is the founder of the Hilton hotel chain and the forefather of Paris Hilton.Hilton is a farm at Kløfta close to the Oslo Airport, The firm is still owned by the Hilton family.
To say that Roald Dahl had norwegian roots is an understatement
It was his parents wasn't it? To an american you would have to get even further back to not count it.
He moved to Cardiff, Wales from Norway when he was 4. I did the other way round I moved from Not far from Cardiff, Wales to Norway when I was 4!
Yeah. Not only were his parents actually straight up Norwegian, but Roald Dahl himself traveled to Norway so often he practically lived there. My dad was his waiter when he would come over. I have a few stories about him from dad.
Tyler, you must find out how old these videos you are reacting to are. This one was from before October 2013, so the last 9 years have given the world more famous Norwegians. PS: How could she forget to mention Fridtjof Nansen?
yepp and marcus å martinus hehe

Probably plenty more I've forgotten.
Also, I didn't know before the end that she'd already put in all the names she'd mentioned, too late now.
Good writeup. Note: The word "quisling", coined off our traitorous prime minister, isn't only used in Norway. It's also become a word in English.
Olav Thon is a business legend, He retired as a CEO this year at the age of 99 and is still the Chairman of the board. When he retired he had been the CEO of his company for 81 yrs. His company owns a lot of shopping centers and a hotel chain.
Kristoffer Hivju is also pretty famous for his acting roles in for example Game of Thrones.
I think Grete Waitz and Ingrid Kristiansen should DEFINITELY have been included in this list. They were so prominent runners in long distance running during the late 70s and throughout the 80s that they were even referenced in a joke on Seinfeld (mostly Waitz, but they were a bit of a dynamic duo). Waitz won 9 New York Marathons between 1978 and 1988. Ingrid Kristiansen won in 1989. Those are only their NY Marathon achievements, they also were world champions in different track and field distances, cross country running and in marathons.
Yeah sure. Long distance running is followed by about 0,000000001% of the world.
@@ImperialMJG So many? 🦿🦿🚾😊
Waitz are perhaps known to older Americans. And all Americans interested in history should know about Leiv Eriksen who discovered America...except for those already living there of course 😀

Kygo should've definitely been mentioned in her video, as should his DJ/producer colleague Alan Walker, they are both from my hometown Bergen on the west coast and we're very proud of how far they've come and the success they've had! And she did mention Sissel Kyrkjebø, another singer from my hometown and maybe our finest national treasure, her voice is so pure and angelic and it just makes you forget all your worries and problems when you listen to her beautiful singing! 😍🤩
Yeah I'm surprised they were not mentioned. Alan Walker is arguably the most famous DJ in the world.
Her video is ancient. She mentions Gro as the only female prime minister, since then Erna Solberg has been the PM for 8 years and she lost the job last year. Kygo and Alan Walker were probably in their diapers when the video was made!
The video is from 2013! Did you not listen to who she Said our prime minister is? He have been SG at Nato for almost a decade Now
Sissel Kyrkjebø did some beautiful vocals in the movie about Titanic. ua-cam.com/video/CZv4vt8xqvo/v-deo.html
Kristofer Hivju is Norwegian. He is the red headed wildling in Game of thrones. He also playd in fast and furious 8.
As a Norwegian I really enjoy these videos!!! :)
Roald Dahls parents where both Norwegian, and he talked Norwegian too.
And he visited Norway often too.
@@MissCaraMint ua-cam.com/video/TdFI0vAmjgs/v-deo.html
Roald Dahl was actually ethnically norwegian, both his parents moved from Norway to UK - just british nationality.
We do have some international recognized artist that should been mention in addition to Aha, like kygo, alen Walker, matoma, Astrid s and Ina wroldsen. Faded with Alan walker have 1.6 billions playtrough on Spotify and his music video been watched 3.3 billion times on UA-cam. So anyone remotely interested in music should know that name

Uneducated Woman ! The most (unknown)Known Vocal Artist World wide from Norway is Angelina Jordan only 16 Years old but is considered the greatest Vocal artist living in Our lifetime .. In my opinion She is one of the most Versatile Soul Singer on the planet... Though Jazz is her main thing she Versatils to any Genre, Style covering any Era of Past Century and reviving all the Greatest Hits from all the Greatest Vocalists of the Past .. She is Known as " The Angel of Thousand Voices" as she never Uses quite the same Voice Twice
I have been following her since she was 7 years old when she Won Norway got Talent ... Look her up maybe make Reaction to some of her Songs and see for yourself..
I was on life Concerts with her this Sommer and I promise you that was the Shortest 2 hours I have ever experienced and the most delightful it was like window into Heaven listening to Angel sing.
I enjoy Your Reaction Videos and Your sincere Honesty
OneLove 🕊
Luckily you were one of the few people in the world who knew this 10 years ago, while Angelina was 6 years old, when this clip was made. You are surly above everyone else, probably a godlike being even. All praise to you!!
she forgot Kygo, Alan Walker and AURORA i tink some people around the world know them
And girl in red 😌
Think the video is to old for it.
She forgot to mention Jo Nesbø which is possibly the best selling Norwegian author.
Two famous Norwegian actors are Kristofer Hivju Thormund Giantsbane from Game of Thrones and Aksel Hennie from The Martian.
Erling Braut Haaland, Casper Ruud, Jacob Ingebrigtsen, Victor Hovland and Karsten Warholm is a few of our most known athletes in summer sports
Renee Zellweggers mother is from Alta in North-Norway.Josh Grobans mothers familly is from Toten,Linda Evans (dynasty) Marylin Monroe and Richard dean anderson (macgyver) also have norwegian roots.....NOW we have artist like Angelina Jordan,Aurora,Sigrid,Kygo,Alan Walker and many more... Lene Nystrøm,the singer in Aqua (barbie girl) is Norwegian and A-ha,now in their 60's are still going strong.
I guess there is somone that the americans would know wery well ,and take it for granted that he is american, but he was born in 1877 on Gjøvik in norway, then emigrated to america in 1882 with his famely, his name was Ole Andersen Aaslundleie ,later changed his name to the more famous Ole Evirude , the inventor of the outboard engine and founder of Evinrude Motor Company in 1907.
Uh...is she an airhead? She failed to mention Fritjof Nansen.... (but DOES mention ...Monsen).
Also Amundsen was not only the first person on the south pole - he was also the first person to ve verified to reach the North pole!
Norway is widely known for its Black Metal, and in that genera some of the most well known bands are Norwegian. Like Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Satyricon, Enslaved+++. And we also have Kygo and Alan Walker thats getting pritty known out there as well.
She forgot one key element that might interest you regarding famous people. She mentions Arne Næss Jr at 9:35. (A well known Mountaineer and businessman). He was actually married to Diana Ross from 1986 to 2000. They had two sons together. Arne Næss died in 2004.
Erling Haaland is probably the most famous norwegian today!
Kristoffer Hivju, is famous I would say, he plays Tormund Giantsbane in Game of thrones.
Ylvis brothers are also quite famous. Had the what does the fox say. Bård Ylvisåker and Vegard Ylvisåker
Not many more that was not mentioned that I can remember
Are they also the Wolves from the Eurosong contest?
Ylvis is very famous world wide. Their video for "What does the fox say?" has a billion (with a b) youtube views.
Roald Dahl is half Norwegian and half British. He lived in The UK but his parents were Norwegian, and he visited Norway every summer. Probably also had family living here.
She also didnt mention edvard grieg - dovregubbens hall, which is also known by a lot of people as its used for a lot of things.
Also sissel kyrkjebø was the voice in titanic, not my heart will go on, but the beatiful humming tune that was played throughout the film.
So after watching this, I think a lot of things she mentioned was irrelevant. And people in the comment section too. Kaizers orchestra f, ex is not someone a lot of foreigners would have heard about, neither is Espen Lind.
Roald Amundsen, Tor Heyerdahl, Erling Kagge, Lars Monsen, Henrik Ibsen, is some of the names she mentioned. Roahl Dahl, Ari Behn, Morten Harket, Angelina Jordan, Aurora Aksnes, (I have added some more for you.) Edvard Grieg, Solveig Kringlebotn, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Edvard Munch, Gustav Vigeland, Odd Nerdrum, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Jens Stoltenberg, Vidkun Quisling, Bjørn Dæhlie, Vegard Ulvang, and the King of course. Olav Thon. 👍
Sports : Casper Ruud (tennis player, #2 in 2022, 3 Grand Slam final including US Open 2022, 12 ATP titles), Erling Braut Haaland (soccer)
One of my favorite authors : Jo Nesbø
George Washingtons ancestors came from Vassingtun (hence the name Washington) in the 8th-9th century. They settled in York, England, and later emigrated to the US.
Jan Stenerud, kicker, SB winner and NFL Hall Of Famer. Knute Rockne, coach of American football at University of Notre Dame. Ole Evinrude, invented outboard boat engines as we know them.
I can't believe she didn't mention Kygo, Angelina Jorden and Alan Walker. Those are all extremely popular in the US.
A lot of musicians within the electro genre from Norway, like Alan Walker, KYGO (as you found out), Royksopp, K-391, Spektrem, and so on...
This video is rather old. Kygo and Alan Walker should be pretty world-known today. The primeminister she talks about, Jens Stoltenberg, is head of NATO now and has been so for more than 8 years.
Must be a really old video, as we've had another female prime minister for years now, and we got other famous artists other than Aha, Aurora's done pretty well for herself including the soundtrack to Frozen 2, and Susanne Sundfør was in the movie music for a Tom Cruise movie, the head of NATO is a Norwegian politician, heck.. I think even Angelina Jordan could be considered famous, at least on the internet, and by the fact she even was on America's Got Talent.
Famous American-Norwegians or people with Norwegian heritage; Renée Zellweger (half Norwegian), Marilyn Monroe, The Olsen twins and Elizabeth Olsen, Iggy Pop, Chris Pratt, Priscilla Presley, Chrissy Teigen, Lindsey Vonn, Kristen Wiig, Michelle Williams, Lynn Anderson, Matt Groening. So many more but these are the most famous ones.
And of course; Belle Gunness, born Brynhild Paulsdatter Størset (November 11, 1859 - possibly April 28, 1908), nicknamed "Hell's Belle", was a Norwegian-American serial killer who was active in Illinois and Indiana between 1884 and 1908.
famous rally drivers: Petter Solberg and Henning Solberg
a famous producer in norway is Tix, makes mostly norwegian music but he made the beat for sweet but psycho.
another famous norwegian music producer is Jonas Aden.
another one is Alexander Rybak. the one who made Fairytale
a famous painter is Pushwagner jr.
Sonia Henie was left out! She made figure skating famous, by taking it to the movies, and to Hollywood. She was three times Olympic champion, ten times World champion, and six time European champion of figure skating. That's more than any other figure skater; the next on the list has two Olympic championship gold, four World championship gold, and six European championship gold medals. She then became a Hollywood actor, where her movies brought figure skating to prominence in the US (more so than in Norway, where it had to compete for attention with many other winter sports).
If I'm not mistaken Sissle Kyrkjebø is the one who sang the highnotes in the titanic soundtrack, in the begining of the movie. Also we have artists as Alan Walker and Kygo who are relatively famous outside Norway I think.
I had the subtitles turned on, and they transcribed the name of the famous playwright as "Henry Gibson." I assume that that was computer generated. The name is of course Henrik Ibsen.
"Morning Mood" is frequently used as background music, but maybe not in a context where you'd hear the title. A better known piece by Edvard Grieg is probably "In the Hall of the Mountain King." Both pieces are from Grieg's "Peer Gynt suite," written for Henrik Ibsen's play "Peer Gynt."
Oh, for Christ's sake! Varg Vikernes? Writer and musician? I think this leaves out neo-nazi, convicted murderer (for the murder his fellow band member Øystein Aarseth, aka Euronymous) and arsonist (burned down several churches). Oh, he was, I guess, famous of sorts back in the 90s, but not for his writing or music. Once convicted, he sort of fell out of the public consciousness.
Canada here... I've heard of Henrik Ibsens's A doll's house!!! and that he's been called the "Father of Modern drama"...
She can play it. And so can you, all classical music is non copyrightable and that's why you find so many people posting it on UA-cam, do go react to "in the hall of the mountain king" and "morning mood" it would be funny watching you go, oh yeah I've heard this before
As an american if you know players in the NFL that are in the hall of fame!
Maybe you have heard about a kicker by the name Jan Stenerud that was a kicker at Kansas City Chiefs most of his career and was traded to Minnesota Vikings at the end of it!
He played in the NFL for around 20 years!
He is born and raised in Voss not that far from Bergen on the western coast of Norway!
we have lots of norwegian music, Kygo, Matoma, Madcon, Broiler, Astrid S, girl in red, Sigrid, SEEB (partially), KREAM, Nico & Vinz, a member of U2 is norwegian, TIX (wrote Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max), CLMD, Alan Walker, Dagny, Röyksopp, AURORA, Anna of the north, HIGHASAKITE, Rat City/Donkeyboy, Skinny Days, MADDEN and probably more that i couldnt think of
A member of U2? Which one?
@@avienated sorry, i got that mixed up. a member of A1
you've probably heard some of edvard griegs music. you can search up 'dovregubbens hall' or 'morgensteminig' (both in the per gynt play). it's classical music, so you be warned. Also there is Thor Bjørklund, invented the proudest norwegian thing ever. the cheese slicer.
One funny thing is me and Theodor Kitelsen one of the painters, is from the same place in Norway! I basically grew up right next to his home, that now is a museum:)
There are so many norwegian artists making it international now, Kygo, AURORA, Turbonegro was huge and the main theme music for the Jackass movies, there's so many more to mention but im lazy..
Varg Vikernes is a true life villain. He burned down a stave church outside his hometown of Bergen and Holmenkollen Chapel. The very same day he did the latter, he killed a guy named Øistein Aarseth, another already well known figure on the Norwegian metal scene.
He served a long jail sentence for it.
Also - Edvard Grieg composed "In the Hall of the Mountain King" and that tune she referred to, is called "Morning Glory" or something in English.
I can't believe she didn't mention Two Steps From Hell. Thomas Bergersen has made music that you've DEFINITELY heard in movies and games in the last 20 years.
In Game of Thrones, Thormund Giantbane is played by the Norwegian actor Krostofer Hivju
The world's biggest Black Metal band is Norwegian. "Dimmu Borgir". You also got Satyricon, Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Darkthrone, so on, and so forth.
Ironically, they are bigger abroad than home here in Norway.
If you are not familiar with a-ha's music other than Take on me, you should react to some of their major hits (not in the US, for some reason they turned their back on a-ha), like The sun always shines on TV, Stay on these roads and their Bond theme song The living daylights. They are great.
You should react to: You should definitely react to: Geography Now Norway.😃
People worth knowing about:
Leif Erikson - might be the first european to set foot on America. Yes not Cjristopher Columbus, but a Norwegian Viking. The Vikings came down from Greenland I believe, but for some reason they did not thrive there and left shortly after.
This video is old, very old. We have had a second female prime minister Erna Solberg.
After this video was made, Gro Harlem Brundtland stoped being the only female primer minister of Norway ever. Erna Solberg was prime minister 2013-2021.
The former primer minister, Jens Stoltenberg, is currently Secretary General of NATO, and soon head of Norges Bank.
And she forgot to mention the then world-famous violinist Ole Bull (1810-1880) who started a Norwegian-American colony called Old Norway, in Pennsylvania. All Norwegians know who Ole Bull was.
In regards to music, she mainly focuses on pop. On the meta scene, however, Dimmu Borgir had their concert with the NRK (state monompoly) orchestra and a choir play in Oslo, and people came fromaround the world to attend.
You gotta know 2003 world rally champion 'Mr Hollywood' Petter Solberg

Our biggest musical export is not A-ha, it's Black Metal which basically started in Norway (at least Black Metal as we know it today)

@@okklidokkli That is relative. But they are not household names for sure.
3:14 Here in Austria we had to read at least three international literary books (old and modern classics) per month for German class at middle school + make written interpretative tests about them + give presentations of books we chosed by ourselves.
And of course we also covered some works by Henrik Ipson.
Besides literature: You can't tell me you've never heard of Edvard Grieg and Edvard Munch. And you didn't know that Norway is a monarchy (by the way the king's name is "Harald", not "Herold")? 😲😲😲
The Norwegian athlete who is probably best known to Americans is Grete Waitz. She was Norway's most successful long-distance runner of all time. Her efforts as a pioneering female long-distance runner have had a major impact on the development of women's sports.
And sort of mentioned in an marathon episode of Seinfeld. They mentioned there would be a norwegian winning and 10 000 loosers following or something like that.
