  • I'm back! In this new series I'll be exploring the local moors above the Lancashire town of Chorley. In this episode I take a walk up through the quarries at Black Coppice and over Anglezarke moor to visit the mysterious Bronze Age bowl barrow known as Round Loaf.

    Hi Steve,
Well that was a surreal experience watching a video in my own backyard. Especially as I was up there at the same time. Enjoyed it and learned something. Didn’t know about the wall at Drinkwaters. That explains why one of the stone gateposts has gone missing!
Thought the graphics was a nice touch too.
Re: your fitness. If you can walk and talk and climb a hill all at the same time you are fit enough! That is the steepest climb in the area!
The landmark you thought might be Anglesey is in fact the Great Orme. Anglesey is behind it.
Looking forward to the next edition.

Now I'm looking at it on a map, I see what you mean, while Anglesey lies in that direction, the relative height of the Great Orme would put it in the line of sight compared to Anglesey which is a lot lower.
Did you manage to spot yourself in the video? On the section where I'm approaching Round Loaf you're visible in the background approaching on the adjacent path.
As for fitness, I did manage to get up Harter Fell (the one at Mardale) the other week as part of a loop from Longsleddale, so I guess I've got some miles of fellwalking left in me yet, although it felt like quite a slog and took me a week to recover properly, it was great to be back in the big mountains again though and I hope to be back up there again quite soon.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of this particular saga which will hopefully be a video about the farm ruins, something I've been thinking about for quite a while but haven't got round to making just yet.
