      First thought is "why?" I can't figure out Kimber. I don't have any of their 1911s because they seem to be hit and miss on performance but always have a high price compared to even premium competitors. I would like to see it side-by-side with P365 X Macro and compare price/feature. The price seems really high for their first venture considering how established players like Springfield price against Sig Sauer. With Kimbers 1911 fabrication experience they should have options for aluminum frame striker fired pistols. They could also pioneer a "2011" style firearm using the drop-in FCG concept everyone is using with a hammer fired upper/slide. I'm just not sure what they bring to the table this late. Are they using proprietary mags? Do the mags at least work with a 1911/2011 model so the Mako doesn't act more like a unicorn?
      The offerings on their web page are strange too. The "Optics included Tactical Package" has a Holosun, 2 mags, threaded barrel. The "Optics Included Bundle Package" has a Crimson Trace, 4 mags and non-threaded barrel. Looking at those, I want neither. I want the Holosun, 4 mags, threaded barrel. If the extra 2 mags are a price point issue, they shouldn't offer it on their next lowest tier. It just pisses people off. It also appears that the threaded and non-threaded versions come with the same Truglo Pro sights. No indication if one is suppressor height.
      I would have liked to have seen a couple weapon lights with that oversize trigger guard. They probably checked with Streamlight and Surefire models but some of the less well known brands seem to have different dimensions from slot to back of light. If nothing else, I'd check the distance from trigger guard to slot and compare to Glock or Sig

      I almost bought one last year and just held off because it’s a new pistol and all of that. Definitely looks sweet, reminds me of my pps m2 I used to have.

      @@MrTimbeatty The R7 tactical is new for this year. I believe they tried various packages in the past to encourage sales. The original version had a 3.37 inch barrel, and they went cheap on the optics included version with the crimson trace optic. The tactical barrel is 3.92 inches long and threaded so more of a compact size handgun. The new pistols do seem to be more expensive at suggested retail. I expect the street price will be somewhat less. I will be looking for the tactical barrel to upgrade my existing R7.

    Bought the original a few months after it came out. A huge Kimber 1911 fan, so being their first striker fire, I had to have it. Also I wanted to replace my Kimber Master Carry 1911 with a 9mm for conceal carry. From the first time I took it to the range to every other time, I’ve been extremely happy with its performance and love the feel. Kimber hit a home run with me on the R7. Plus it’s made in my home state!

    I bet it’s a good suppressor host where it has the ejection port out the right side instead of the whole breach being open as the gun unlocks. That will keep gunk off your optic as well. My tx22 has the same design and it never dirties the lens.

  • @jonathanpeterson1

    I have the original R7 Mako, which is also compatible with the 13/15 rnd mags. I’d like to see a comparison with the Mako, 43X, 365XL, Hellcat Pro and other “micro” guns that are really just compacts with shorter slides and thinner grips.

    • @jonathanpeterson1
      @jonathanpeterson1 6 місяців тому +1

    I’m very, VERY happy with my R7 Mako but still interested in other opinions of people who know more about firearms than I do.
    My previous favorite firearm was the Glock 26, and I still love those but with the R7 it’s almost like someone said “ let’s take a Glock 26 and fix everything about it that could be optimized like grip texture and grip shape, especially trigger, optics mounting ability, accessory rail, and sites” and that doesn’t take into account the fact that it actually holds more rounds in a very slightly smaller package with either the 11+ one or 13+ one options.

  • @sinistar426
    @sinistar426 6 місяців тому +4

    Because of 1. the guns size, and 2, the way the ejection port is cut, if you're a lefty, be aware of where you put your thumb/s in a thumb forward position. The ejected shell can hit your thumb, bounce back into the gun and cause a jam.

I went from the Compact Arex [for a long time] to my full size for my EDC. Just this week I changed over to my HK VP 9mm. The Kimber looks like a nice gun all in all. I have one with an EPS carry, well, Kimber has it now. Multiple failure to return to battery, FTF, a few FTE, same result with both mags. No doubt Kimber will make it right but... The trigger is awesome though and it's so accurate. I could rapid fire with combat effectiveness out to 20 yards. I generally love how the ejection port kept all the suppression gas to my right and my optic was clean after 500 rounds. Grip texture wore a blister into my hand after that though. It's probably me just not shooting enough. Overall, I like the tech it brings with the bubitz design, but first I need it to be reliable. Not entirely happy about having a gun that needed "factory work".

      @@TacticalConsiderations I like a 1911 grip angle the most and my m@p 2.0 9mm 4" compact feels great. I'm like you with Glock I have to get used to the grip. I have a hellcat pro that is a solid gun but not for me. Haven't shut the 43x or 365x but have held them. If I got the Glock it would be the 43x or 48x mos for both. I would get shield mags and the proper mag release to run them. I have never held the mako. I'm a lefty so it draws me being ambi. My number one concern is stupid reliability which makes me lean hard to glock. What do you think. I can't appendix because I have a gut not huge but it's there. 6'3" 300lbs. Well fit and budget wise there are a ton of options. You need to feel out what is natural for your wrists and ergos to carry .. then choose a quality brand . There are so many now from this to canik that have been well proven that the world is your oyster.

    They copied the FN REFLEX, except the thread barrel. I have the black FN REFLEX MRD WITH AN HOLOSUN 507K AND BLACK POINT IWB WING HOLSTER. So I have the better holosun red dot on my gun. MSRP ON THE KIMBER R7 MAKO WITH HOLOSUN 407K $951.00. MSRP ON THE FN REFLEX MRD WITH AN HOLOSUN 507K $1000.00. I love my reflex it's my edc. I'm sure the reflex has the better trigger being hammer fired.

    • @TacticalConsiderations
      @TacticalConsiderations  6 місяців тому

      This is not a copy of the FN reflex. Has a completely different lock up design, trigger, breach and many other items the only thing that is similar is they are both striker fired.
