      @@loveforeignaccents Of course she’s advocating for worker safety at all times. It’s just more likely during the day to have more workers in a given store and more foot traffic with customers. At night many of these businesses will only schedule a single person and there’s less foot traffic so therefore likely to be witnesses or others to intervene should something foul happen. I worked in a place that had me making cash deposits to a bank night drop in the dark at age 19. I didn’t even realize how dangerous it was at that age. They also had a fake security camera.. it wasn’t even functional! Too many businesses care about profit over anything else.

But other than that I really did like that she talked with the couple and kept them calm. The couple who stopped were amazing. They really did a great job. @@mollyhorse I think almost anyone would be totally panicked if they were in the middle of that situation regardless of whether they were a trained nurse or not. Unless maybe it were an off duty ER or trauma nurse or an off duty paramedic who happened upon that scene at that time, someone who regularly handles those kinds of situations & has the training to handle things in a certain way, I think even an average Dr's office nurse or even a Dr who just happened onto the scene of something like that would react exactly the way Michelle did. We also don't know what kind of nurse she is or whether she was even still working as a nurse at that time or was just pulling from training she'd had in nursing school but hadn't used in some time. She did the best she could in a horrific situation. At least they stopped & tried to help & I thought they were both remarkably calm given the circumstances, especially when they saw how truly severe Rebekah's injuries were when they turned her over.

      @@holliegeorge5933 I thought the same thing. The operator wanted her to flip her over, risking a spinal injury, since your not supposed to move someone with a head or neck injury, and start cpr on someone who was already still breathing. I thought that, as long as she was breathing, even if she wasn't breathing well, it would be better to avoid moving her and not begin CPR until it was absolutely necessary.

      @d.rim.4275 Рік тому +4

      She only told them to gently turn her over at the point when the couple noticed that she wasn't really breathing anymore, also instructed them how to stabilize the head and neck.
      Before that, while she was breathing the operator clearly said to not move her.
      But when the breathing almost or complete stops you have to risk turning the patient over, to make sure that the airways are clear and to be able to do cpr.

      Definitely agree. I know at my job, (I work as an engineer for the NYC Subway) they make a point of never allowing us to go to the field (subway stations, tunnels, etc.) alone even if the person we drag along isn't even related tot he project for this very reason. and as a 5'5" guy, i'm thankful for that. I've had at least 2 incidents where i don't know what would have happened if I was alone. Once I walked in on what I assume was a drug deal in a subway stairwell. I was taking pictures of light fixtures to document existing conditions and this dude nearby flipped out at me "why are you taking photos!?!?!" I've always assumed he thought I was an undercover cop or something and was gathering evidence. I told him I was just doing my job a an engineer documenting the station, but he didn't seem to believe me... until my coworkers walked up and suddenly it was all "Oh, uh...my bad." DUde pretended to go intot he subway but we could see him hiding behind the corner and like a minute later someone entered and they both disappeared so... yeah, definitely a drug deal and I don't know what would have happened if I was alone.
      NOw of course if this person was truly dangerous, had a gun or whatever, numbers might not matter but... Jeez, I feel like at the very least, working alone should have hazard pay. a camera. one of those panic buttons that automatically calls the police. honestly, that should be required of any job where you are exposed to the public no matter how many employees you have.

    I'm only 20 min into this video and I had to stop to just say something, I'm curious if anyone else felt this way or if I'm just being dramatic. So, I'm an emt and I am ALWAYS the first to stand up for emergency dispatchers because I know how hard it is for them. I myself couldn't be a dispatcher because it seems so stressful. But the dispatcher who was speaking with the man (can't remember his name) and his wife, the nurse Michelle, said some things that made my jaw drop. First of all, "if she has that bad of a head injury, you can move her around, there's nothing else we can do to hurt her"...my mouth literally hit the floor. I was so thankful to hear Michelle in the background walking her husband through "okay I'm going to stabilize c-spine....now I'm going to do a jaw thrust to open her airway" because had this gone any differently and someone without medical training was relying on the dispatcher for instructions, they could have ABSOLUTELY done way worse to hurt her. Yeah a head injury is bad, but so is being paralyzed from being handled incorrectly as a trauma patient. Also the way she told her to do cpr even though there was a pulse, but not breathing? I would never recommend someone to do chest compressions while there's still a pulse, but that's just me I guess. And then she had the audacity to condescendingly ask if the nurse remembers how to do cpr. I don't know, I get it's stressful but if you don't know what to do then leave it at "don't move her" especially if it's a trauma, ESPECIALLY if no one even saw what happened. There's a reason why they tell you not to move people yourself if you get in a car accident. Stabilizing c-spine is the FIRST thing we do at a trauma scene; it comes before even checking for breathing, a pulse, etc. You stabilize first so that you CAN go in and do those things without potentially causing more damage.

    • @NikkiC777
      @NikkiC777 2 роки тому +2

      I agree with everything you said. I did not see any reason that it would be beneficial to take the risk of moving her while injured, to do CPR while she was still breathing, (even if she wasn't breathing normally, it was stated that she was breathing) and had a pulse. That seemed like a big mistake on the 911 dispatcher's part. They should have just avoided moving her until the EMTs got there and it could be done in a safe manner. The bystander was a nurse and she new best what to do, not the dispatcher who wasn't there, seeing exactly what was happening. It seemed like the dispatcher just felt the need to do something even if it wasn't correct.

    I agree that these companies don’t care about your safety. I work for one of the largest banks in the world who are too cheap to install lights in our large parking area because when it becomes darker earlier during the fall and winter months, many employees are walking to get to their cars (often alone) within a football field sized parking lot at night. We’re also located next to a wooded area. It’s almost as if they want something bad to happen to one of us.

      I sound like a little kid but my first thought was “ewwww.” That’s awful that the company is so stinking cheap. Walk to your car with your keys in hand with a finger lightly touching the panic button. I do that if I go to a store at night by myself. I don’t know how much it would help but maybe if someone tried to attack you, the loud noise would scare them off and bring attention to the situation. You shouldn’t have to even do that because of the greedy cheapskate company. How awful.

      I agree 3rd shifts should always be atleast 2 people.
      I worked 3rd shift at a 24hr dinner for about 9 yrs.
      It was always policy that we had atleast 2 people (a cook & a waitress) on every shift.
      I have never been robbed there but many of our locations have been robbed & have had several shootings.
      I haven't been able to return since we reopened from the COVID shut down because I have been very sick but they are now slacking on that policy.
      They are running 1 person only 3rds when they have to & that is so unsafe & uncalled for.
      I understand it's about profit to them but it just isn't safe for an employee to be alone at night.
      If you aren't running the numbers to be profitable & keep your people safe then just close over night.
      I also worked 3rd as a 2nd job at a different 24 dinner for a while.
      I had to call out one Wed night because something was wrong with my car.
      They got robbed that night & the cook who was a good friend & a great guy was shot several times. (He did survive) The waitress ran out the back door to a gas station beside the dinner for help. The robbers got away with $322. They almost took his life for $322!
      I never went back after that & I got my concealed carry permit.
      3rd shift can be scary enough as it is.
      No one wants to get killed esp at/for a job that would have them replaced before they are even in the ground.

There were good cameras and a panic button and my manager just had me leave the trash bag by the back door so I wouldn't have to go outside. There was one night I got a little weirded out bc this big man(I'm 5 ft 100lbs) was in the store clearly not interested in buying anything but this woman came in so I went over to her and she said I'm staying here until that man leaves, somethings not right with him. Its sad that businesses have to have laws made to force them to do the right things to protect the people who work for them. I work in federal law enforcement. My usual job is mentally draining and so at times we are "cycled" off the taskforce for an amount of time. Due to My background and education I am often given the job of going thru files of people who have life w/o parole or death sentences and have exhausted their appeals. I go and try to convince them to do the right thing and give their victims back to their families. I'm not sure why they think this is somehow a "break" from difficult work as it's heartbreaking. However occasionally someone gives in and we are able to give a family something to lay to rest and to give them the closure of being able to do that. Closure is a term that rarely fits as I've never seen a family really do a lot better but I guess with time. For most it's having proof as regardless of what the evidence says they always seem to hold on to a small bit of both hope and horror that their loved one may still be alive. I think this POS kidnapped the woman found on the road and violated her. She somehow got away on that road and he killed her leaving her belongings nearby
    He likely was concerned about getting caught moving her body and maybe even thought it would get more attention. For that matter he could have been nearby watching as she was found. I truly hope that every single day is pure hell for him. I hope he is not being protected but is in genpop and everyone knows what he did. Lastly...did I hear that POS say the teenaged girl who is the hero of this story had a sealed juvenile record? If so how in the hell does that have a thing to do with what he did to her? He is suggesting she did something to him?? He is simply another piece of trash blowing around the prison. (Take that however you want)

    Randomly came across your channel as I was starting to get into true crime and I'm so happy I did! I love how you tell the story and how respectful you are to the memory of the victim. I also appreciate you putting solved in the title! Sometimes I can't handle unsolved crimes and this helps when binging your channel!

    I don’t know how people like this man can get up in front of a court and declare their supposed innocence and accuse others of framing them. The pure nerve.

    As a small business owner I really appreciate what you said, and couldn't agree more. Having another night shift employee will sometimes be unprofitable but you'll sleep much better at night knowing there's two there to watch out for each other. A 12-5am shift can't be that expensive, averaging around $1600 to 2100 a month for that extra night employee. And if it's really unprofitable just close at midnight, 2am max when you can't sell beer anymore.

    Good for you Rachel for sticking to your convictions and wanting to stay safe if they back on their word about sending you out late at night to gather carts

    Thank you for doing this case. I remember when this happened. It was terrible. No one knew where Jessica was and the case went cold. Thank you.
