The government shouldn't be giving tax payer money to timber companies that charge fees to hunt their land. We don't need to pay twice.

The only experience I have with private land is part of a funny story. Kid and I were on his junior hunt in not quite Northern Nevada. Saw some mule deer, but they were on private property. A guy came out of his house and gave us directions to the land owners house. Drove up the rancher’s driveway and stepped out of the pickup in a camo snow suit and a Montana Peak cowboy hat. Me: “Morning Sir, I believe you have a deer problem.” Rancher: “From the looks of things, you’ve got a much bigger deer problem than I’ve got.” Me: “You’re probably right, but we’re out here trying to fill my kids tag, and I’m teaching him about private property and asking permission. If the answer is no, we’ll be on our way.” Rancher: “Go do whatcha gotta do, just don’t shoot the black deer.” Me: “Thank you, Sir, and I’ll teach him about gates while we’re at it.” Rancher: “Good luck to you guys.” The deer bedded by the time we got back over there. We returned in the afternoon, and the kid belly crawled to 45 yards, and shot his mule deer with an open sighted 30-30. It was a small deer, but a great story.

Interesting. The landowner/Hunter relationship sounds very similar to crop land here. Landowners are reluctant to push the old farmer off that is currently farming their land because of the relationship history, familiar practices, and neighborly courtesy. They care little about the extra money.

One thing that probably goes without saying is when you run into ranchers, go out of your way to make their lives easier (or at least not harder). Flying down Forest Service roads when they're on horseback trying to push a cow and calf out of the draw isn't a good look. Give them space to work, be patient, and in my experience, they've always been very friendly and open to chatting with me after. Not blocking gates is another. Seems obvious but I see it every year. I try to be the out-of-stater that they remember for good reasons.
Hopefully I'll be getting on a west TX lease for the first time this year. Hard to put a price on good hunting opportunities.

great additional tips. A lot of this stuff people don't even realize they are being annoying, then some people don't care, or even worse some have a chip on their shoulder about grazing, private land hunting, etc... and act like idiots. There are a multitude of reasons it's beneficial to have good relationships with locals.

Excellent and thorough explanation of how to make better use of those potential access opportunities with the shrinking public land or decreasing population which means less tags 🏷️ overall.
I also like that negative column jab at Liberals, Soy Boys and Vegans 🥑 lol 😆
I myself as a nonresident from out east have these concerns about access or getting in trouble trying to access places. Like the checkerboard properties in Wyoming in low point units for pronghorn, etc… I am currently looking into a mule deer 🦌 and pronghorn rifle combo hunt and trying to figure that out. Colorado is another option since I currently have 4 points for elk and deer 🦌 there.
    Thanks 🙏 for sharing Cliff G. 😎

I have no doubt Cliff is accurate that supply of opportunity is the key factor but I can say in my experience since Rona every outdoor activity has a lot more demand, it's not Rogan or Hanes or cliff causing more ppl to show up, it's that demand is high everywhere outdoors from the camping van lifestyle to hunting, applying for wilderness white water permits is a great example, way more permit applications than pre Rona, it just is what it is, great strategy video to help deal with the situation

Private land elk hunts here in NM are 10 grand or more for a bull hunt! I am not going to give 10 grand to anyone for an elk hunt!

I love all your content, CLINT! You’re a good dood. With that said, it’s hunting. Get out there and hunt. Stop complaining. Just stop. It’s not called shooting/killing. It’s called hunting. If we could really hunt, it would be a year round hobby. It’s a game. Learn the game. Get out there and struggle. Stick with it if you care. If you don’t, quit. You don’t enjoy it and that’s too bad. There’s lots of easier shit to do out there. ❤

I deleted my last two comments, cause I figured I was crapping too much. In my original comment, i said that in my personal opinion, private lands in some places, is a non starter, but I didn't explain why. So for fun, i decided to make a video. I mean, if I'm gonna bitch, (I deleted it) I may as well do it proper and put my foot where my mouth is. Hopefully it's worth a laugh or two.

Cliff, you nailed it man! Please choose a product or brand that you believe in, sign the partnership deal and pitch their stuff so I and my pals can buy and get you the % you deserve. There are way less qualified ‘spokespeople’ with less integrity and non-genuine approaches to conservation who are getting paid money that I feel you earned through sweat equity. Or market your own pemmican man. Hunting community needs your tone and pragmatism to shape it for our children.

One approach to the high pressure high demand in general situation is ultra specialization in easy draw areas for less popular species in terrain that is just plain difficult to hunt. I’m not going to give any particular examples but consider the approach in general, which works in life and business too.
