meh sadly after playing Y0 his change feels too out of place, even with all the story additions Kiwami bringed. his ending in yakuza 1 feels unnecessary
Without 0 you wouldn’t give two shits about Nishiki as he’s only the game for like 5 minutes. Without 0 the new flashback scenes in Kiwami would leave very little impact as you have ZERO connection or knowledge of who he is. There’s a near 18 year gap between 0 and kiwami with 10 of those years Kiryu was in prison, those 10 years involving everything with his sister’s illness, being conned by the doctor and his sisters death as well as everyone in his life saying how useless he is it’s no wonder why he became the way he is. The events of those flash backs reveal why he descended into madness.
@@masteroflight7296 oh yeah i understand that perfectly. however I was one of these people who played kiwami before 0 and even then i couldn't help but feel for his character and be sad about what happened. it's just that i wish we could have gotten more of him. after all he didn't deserve to die like this and the main reason he died was cuz he was a bad guy in the og ps2 game... i think if the writers could redo the whole series they'd keep him alive somehow, but that's how it happened and they ultimately just wanted a game with a lot of shock value when making og yakuza 1. thankfully they found a way to grace us with more nishiki with 0. also sorry if im stumbling on my own words im kinda tired lol but i enjoy a convo like this
@@borealclouds personally I don't think they would've kept Nishiki alive. His death and his change through time is a big part of Kiryu's sadness. It's very tragic to lose both your sworn brother / best childhood friend and the girl you loved since like, forever after she confessed. He wasn't there for 10 years and he couldn't protect Nishiki nor Yumi. He thought going to jail instead of Nishiki would be the right thing to do but he was wrong. These 10 years add lots of guilt and sadness on his shoulders which give a realistic dimension to it. I am a HUGE Nishiki lover and I would've loved him to get a redemption arc and all, of course it would've been so satisfying to see him get back on the right path (if there's such a thing as a right path in the Yakuza world). I played 0 first and tbh idk if I would've even notice Nishiki without playing it first. I would've been like "ok idgaf, lemme play karaoke!" . We're lucky 0 is there to develop him a lot more. We didn't have this chance in Y2 with Ryūji Goda unfortunately.
And to answer directly to your original post : as @master of light said, Nishiki went through tons of traumatic shits during the 10 years kiryu spent in jail. He lost his sworn brother to jail because HE committed a GRAVE crime against the Tojo Clan. The girl he loves (that loves his bro more than him) forgot about him, after he saved her, then she disappeared. People around him keep telling him he's useless and he would be better dead or in jail instead of kiryu (when he knows he should be the one in jail instead of him) he's being humiliated on a daily basis by everyone in the clan, everyone is messing with his brain... But the fact people always put him in Kiryu's shadow to spit at his face is terrible. Then he's betrayed by the surgeon, then his family (for the money gathering), his sister dies, he lost EVERYTHING even if he let his pride aside and begged for help, hands and knees (litteraly) . So yeah, i think that's enough reasons to turn the way he turned.
