    The ink is PenBBS #223 (Chongqing City), which I ordered through a Taobao broker...if anyone knows a better way, I'd love to know it.

    I got one of these (blue-gray, EF nib) about a week ago. I dip tested the nib and it's VERY smooth for an EF. I haven't fully inked it up yet, but I think I will like it. I like pens that aren't over-large but have a bit of heft to them so that the weight of the pen itself keeps the nib in contact with the paper and I don't have to apply any pressure to write, all I have to do is guide the pen where I want to put down a line! When I ordered it, I somehow missed the fact it is a vac-filler, so it was a bit of a surprise when I saw a review a couple of days before it arrived. For some reason, I thought it was a piston-filler when I ordered. Whether or not the metal section will bother me over time remains to be seen. It's an issue on some pens, others it doesn't bother me.
    This is kind of one of the first new-to-the-market pens I've seen recently that really kind of grabbed me when I first saw and read about it.

    As always, I really enjoyed seeing your impressions of pens.
    Metal sections don't bother me. I have a metal section, several plastic, a lucite and probably a cellulose acetate section pen in current use. 😁
    Probably not going to rush out to get one of these, but they're definitely on my list of ones that interest me. Thanks for sharing this, and God bless, James!

    I have a Visconti Skeleton and it is not a problem. It has a resin section, but we'll balanced. Normally I do not have or use metal pens. There are two recent exceptions - the ēnnsp Italia and a Conklin Duragraph, both in Titanium. Both fabulous pens. Both weighty but both are balanced unposted. Maybe it is the for another metal pen. Thanks for the review.

    thanks so much for the review - I've only started using a fountain pen 10 months ago and just the Amazon Basic fine -I really like it so far and the look of this pen caught my eye - I wasn't sure about the filling method but it looks easy enough - now to choose a colour scheme!!

    It writes nicely. I'm curious how well the medium would write.

    Nice video and an interesting pen. One thing to bear in mind is to not put the nib against the bottom of the bottle when pushing down the plunger. Hold on to the body so the nib doesn't get damaged by the bottle.

    Thanks for the review. I found this pen recommended to me on Ali Express. I thought that it was a little too gimmicky for my taste. But it seems like a good deal.

    Thanks, James. I have one and have been enjoying it. The filling mechanism works smoothly, writes well, comfortable
    to hold. Btw, try Vanness for PenBBS ink in the US.

      Not so far, no. I haven't seen other reviews, yet. I wanted to wait until after. I'm looking forward to a couple to see different impressions.

      @@JG3Reviews Doodlebud reviewed it & had that problem, Chrisrap52 did not, so i was curious as to your experience. In the video you didnt seem to have a problem with that at all, so by God's grace may you never have it! Thanks for responding so quickly, love your vids! God bless!

      I saw doodlebud‘a review where he noted that. I haven’t experienced that with my V169. I did just give the cap a quick swipe with micro mesh just to make sure.

    I had a problem with the chrome grips. I saw somewhere that someone put a piece of matted clear scotch tape around the grip section. I tried it on a Monteverde Essenza Storm Clouds I own and never used due to the grip section - and it is now my #1 use pen. Sure, if you are all about the appearance, you can see the tape. But if you take your time and don't apply too much it really doesn't look bad at all. Besides, your fingers cover most of it anyway when you write.

      You can also put a clear coat on there. I've used a product called protectaclear on a Visconti Michelangelo section and it basically makes it feel like a resin section. Takes a bit of effort to do right, but well worth it.

    I know that state! Thanks for the review, it's a very nice-looking pen. It's about time for another "heavy" pen. My hesitation is the lack of posting. We shall see! :-)

    Great review, as usual!! Did you notice if this pen have a blind cap/shut-off plug that separates the feed from the ink in the body? When it comes to vacuum fillers, that's the main mechanical feature that tips the scales for me to buy one. Thanks again for sharing and God Bless!

    • @JG3Reviews

      I should have mentioned that. Yes, it has a shut off valve. I've found the reservoir allows for a good bit of writing (being a F probably helps) without opening the valve.

    I believe that Asvine makes Hongdian? Are the nibs interchangeable with the Black Forest series?

    • @nancymilawski1048
      @nancymilawski1048 2 роки тому

      I didn't know this. I have the Hongdian Light of Hope (blue colour in the Forest series and I don't really like the nib). This one sounds very smooth but I have small hands and this might be too heavy for me.

      No, they are different sizes (BF is #5, this is #6).

    I'm a Nube to the fountain pen world and was wondering if they make something, or a technique, to keep you from pushing your pen to deep into the ink bottle when filling. I'm not sure if the whole fountain pen experience is worth all the mess and fuss.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  2 роки тому

      It depends on the type of pen. If it's a pen with a converter, you can get a blunt syringe (a lot of pen stores sell them cheaply) and fill the converter directly instead of putting the pen into the bottle. I do this sometimes if it's a bottle that's smaller or nearly empty. That's a pretty unmessy process. Refilling cartridges is the same. If it's a piston filler pen like this it's harder to avoid. Although, having said that, you can unscrew the nib unit on this pen and fill it with a syringe. If you like the pen (it's fantastic) but don't like filling it via the piston, that's doable with the V169 and some other piston pens.

    The section looked either like a different metal than the body… or a chromed resin… is it actually metal?

    Metal nib sections don’t bother me as much as shiny, slick metal bodies with snap on caps. Faber castell loom, I won’t call you by name….
