      Haha is right. Just keep at it. If you're on a time crunch - well, good luck. For me, the Summa was like a super rich meal. Not something you can eat every day, but digest and then give your gray matter a break Rinse, repeat.

    Thank you Father Gregory.
    I am a convert, received into church last Easter. I had heard of St Thomas Aquinas but something seemed to prevent me from learning any of his work, it was probably too heavy.
    It now feels like it’s time to begin. I began by watching your videos on passions. It’s so fascinating and you explain it so well, even if I have to repeat sections a few times.
    Thank you

    What i know is that in The Renaissance period there’s a painting titled The Scholastism you can see there Plato and his finger pointing upwards and his young student Aristotle his finger pointing downward and the Summa Theologica of St Thomas Aquainas merge and reconciles and connects these two school of thoughts k!

    The Summa Theologiae is written for beginners in Theology i.e., with basic knowledge of sciences and Philosophy. Thus, if someone or a philosopher is lacking knowledge of the right Metaphysics (Aristotelian-Thomistic) he shall never understand the Summa.

    Could one of the teachers please clarify in Tertia Pars which of the three sacraments St Thomas completed?

    • @ThomisticInstitute
      @ThomisticInstitute 2 роки тому +1

      Before he interrupted his work on the Tertia Pars, St. Thomas covered the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. He had done some work on the sacrament of Penance when he had his mystical experience and stopped writing.

    I heard that the 12 volumes of Summa Theologica is not finished because he realizes that and he said it that its impossible for a man to know the totality and described the wholeness of what God’s nature is! And even if you continue to write and describe the wonders of God the whole world cannot hold the Books of it! To truly know and write about and explain in his writings St. Thomas Aquainas is seen several times by other priests on his congregation praying with his head buried inside the tabernacle to really be very close to God in the Holy Eucharist k!

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 📚 The Summa Theologiae, composed by St. Thomas Aquinas, is his most influential work, even though it remained incomplete at his death.
    00:26 🧩 St. Thomas carefully organized the Summa to provide a compact and orderly summary of theology, making it conducive to learning.
    00:55 📖 The Summa Theologiae is divided into three main parts: the Prima Pars (God and creation), the Prima Secundae (building blocks of the moral life), and the Secunda Secundae (specific virtues).
    02:21 🌐 The organization of the Summa reflects a movement from God to creatures and their return to God, known as the exitus-reditus schema, covering theology, morality, and sacraments.

    Fr. why did you omit that St. Thomas Aquinas, after a revelation or some sort of religious experience, called all his writings "so much straw" or something to that effect? Or, will you get to this in another video? You also mentioned in the first video that St. Thomas' parents wanted him to be an abbott. Correct, however, not the "full" truth? They wanted him to be a Benedictine. Why would you leave this out?

    • @ThomisticInstitute
      @ThomisticInstitute 4 роки тому +12

      Thanks for your questions! To the first, that gets mentioned in the first video (ua-cam.com/video/V_FuJXZOy90/v-deo.html). To the second, I suppose it could have been included. The monastery mentioned--Monte Cassino--is a Benedictine monastery, so it ends up coming through in the context. Cheers!

    What about the 4th branch of the Summa? The one that requires, clerics wear uniforms, and higher clerics, wear costumes, and funny hats. No wonder religion, is mocked, and spat upon. Uniforms, and ornate vestments, make religion bogus, while GOD IS NOT.
