      Seriously. I feel like Drogas proved it, but now this "tape" basically being a collection of freestyles off the top with the content he shares and level of lyricism is unmatched in the game. All the other "GOATs" would need months to write this well. 72 hours to finish it makes it just that much more impressive

He has had tons of songs that should have been radio hits in the beginning of his career and for some odd reason he never got the love I’m assuming it’s the labels he was on like Atlantic. I think he was just simply too deep and real for the masses. I can’t fathom a time where Lupe stops giving me classics and I’m stuck listening to the garbage music that comes out now a days. When I first listened to Lupe and then Jon's reaction to his previous works. It made me feel that why isn't he famous like kendrick , but then again if he'd be famous like kendrick there is a chance of you becoming mainstream in the long run, keep your heads up , There is literally no one better than Lupe on what he can do , 72 hours is just the prime example of his abilities. One took 5 years to make stuff and the other guy takes 72 hours , there's levels to this shit
    No disrespect to kendrick he's a great guy , and we shouldn't compare them , individuals trying to bring amazing stuff to us

      Kendrick is a better live performer also

    • @yeahr1ghty
      @yeahr1ghty 2 роки тому +2

      I love both artists but its wrong to say Kendrick took 5 years. He wasn't working on the album most of that time. We have no idea how many days Kendrick took writing Mr.Morale but it happened in a 2 year period. He had writers block for 2 years, and the album was delayed a year due to covid, leaving a 2 year window he actually created the album. Besides the time period in which a rapper takes to make an album doesn't even matter. Nas wrote Illmatic over the course of many years.
      Also there was a time Lupe was famous like Kendrick. From 2006-2011 Lupe was one of the most successful mainstream rappers. All his albums charted high, he won awards, and he was featured by (and wrote) for several of the giant artists of that era like Kanye and Bruno Mars. So Lupe had already peaked commercially before Kendrick ever made it to the mainstream.
      Lupe had his time being "the guy" in rap, but he chose to go his own way. He's still going strong so clearly its working out for him. He's never been the guy to desire fame and money anyway.

    Regarding Kendrick vs Lupe: I think the biggest divider, even for me as a stan, is that he doesn't ever really get explicitly personal. He's more about pushing English to its limits. For battle rap fans it's like Daylyt vs Geechi. Daylyt is a lyrical wizard. Geechi is "simple" but more relatable.
    Lupe will never give us a Father Time or Mother I Sober. He kind of keeps "himself" at a distance in his songs. Sometimes fans want to connect with the person and Lupe doesn't give a lot to latch on to if you're not a fan of breaking songs down.

    • @BATANful
      @BATANful 2 роки тому +21

      I actually disagree, yea we never getting a album like the last Kendrick album but not a lot of artists open up like that, Lupe has a lot of songs/loosies that are very personal and emotional, he a lot of the time talks about him through another person/character, like Ms Mural that is pretty much about Lupe and how he looks at art, and the anger he has for some of the stuff that impacts the art negatively, I can go on about some of the other songs here and from his first 2 albums.

    • @scottriley9398
      @scottriley9398 2 роки тому +16

      He’s giving us the complexity of his personality. I think it’s very personal. He spends more time thinking about society than inner demons he may not even have.

    • @lizethwalker
      @lizethwalker 2 роки тому +14

      @@scottriley9398 he literally has songs where he’s talking about his suicidal thoughts on lasers it’s just everything Lupe does is abstract and he doesn’t even keep the same sound so when ppl hear him 1. He’s complex and not direct most of the time and most ppl don’t have time for that, they’re stressed they want to dance 2. His sound always changes so unless you’re a core fan who’s learned to give everything a chance it can turn you off if you heard a song like wav files and liked Lupe and then you check out his new shit and it’s Solar Midnight 3. He’s very anti industry and said stuff that was taken out of context but still will kill you in a mainstream light, stuff like “Obamas a terrorist” or “I’m no longer doing radio interviews” so he’s not pushed by radio mainstream folks the same because it’s dangerous to touch him

    • @DJKuroh
      @DJKuroh 2 роки тому +2

      @@lizethwalker I agree about Lasers and none of what I said was a diss. Sadly Atlantic ruined the album and it was his worst received. I'm not saying he doesn't get personal, he's just not as plainly personal as someone like Kendrick. He's still going to give you layers. Blur My Hands. No Scratches.
      But Jon asked why isn't he _as_ popular as Kendrick, (that's why I only brought up Kenny, and if you ask most rap fans that's why. They can catch Kendrick a lot easier. Laziness. 90% of the reactors think Autoboto is simple and dumbed down because they literally caught none of it. (Professor Skye's channel broke it all the way down masterfully). I think when Kendrick critiques cancel culture Lupe is the example of what happens when someone keeps it 100% real on and off record, like you said. People stopped fucking with him even though he could back up his opinion (and they couldn't).

I'm obsessed with BH so I'm a bit biased, but I would really recommend for u to try out reacting to Bloom, which is considered by many to be one of their best albums, and Depression Cherry, which is my personal favorite!

    So much respect for you recognizing Lupes ability. I’ve always said he has the best lyricism and wordplay in history. I’ll die on this hill lol. I’ve also thought of the comparison with Kendrick, I agree, lots of Lupes music is leaps and bounds more complex than Kendrick’s (I love Kendrick so this isn’t a knock on him), but Lupe probably won’t ever reach Kendrick’s level. I’m okay with that thought because Lupe has never tried to dumb down his music to get more fame (not saying Kendrick does this, btw) He’s constantly challenging the listeners with his music

    • @beinerthchitivamachado9892
      @beinerthchitivamachado9892 2 роки тому +9

      The thing is Kenny is complex as well, and complex doesn't equate to high quality. I love both, but Kenny is the better artist, more well rounded. But once again, it's art, it's subjective and we just have to appreciate these two GOATS.

    • @whiteweb6546
      @whiteweb6546 2 роки тому +7

      @@beinerthchitivamachado9892 both are complex, both are great artists in different ways. Lupe is more abstract, kendrick is more direct. A direct artist is always going be gravitated towards by the masses more than an abstract one. This is why artists like aesop rock also arent as popular.

We're all humans after all, the feeling is inevitable, but the lesson is we gotta learn to accept and move on as long as there are people that appreciate your contributions just like Lupe did
