We'll I don't need Jomboy for this lip Reading. I understood that 🤣
He said "But the puck..."
Bwahahaha Right! 🤣
Lmao what I was thinking😂
I’ve played and watched hockey for the last 25 years and I swear I’ve never been more unsure of the rules when it comes to goalie interference.
I miss the old days when you would just call of a goal because Tomas Homstrom was in front of the goalie. Simpler times.
The problem is in the end it’s up to the referee. That’s the problem with having grey rules.
The rule in short is: any interfering action on a goalie that causes a frozen puck to come loose, or knocks the goalie out of position causing a goal to be scored before a fair amount of time for a goalie to reposition and find the puck has passed.
This interfering action must also take place in the goalies crease. If it is outside the crease any interference is up to the same punishment as actions performed on other skaters EXCEPT body checks. Body checks will be called on a player if they hit a goalie under the call: interference. Since, no matter what is going on a goalie is never in play to be hit. Vice versa applies if a goalie hits a player.
However because the rule is grey referees are free to determine what they think is the right call with no possible way of challenging by either team on the ice.
I also believe bet sites have been able to influence actions of the referees this year as well, because no ref, especially ones labelled as the best in the world should make these mistakes.
@@greathoonta3461 Yeah, but this one was the situation room screwing it up.
Maybe they want a piece of that “entertainment” pie like the nfl
You can`t push a goalie with your hockey stick, that rule has been around for years, read rule 69.3.
Can't push the goalies pad into the net... That's a rule everyone knows.
The rules are written specifically so every call could go either way
apparently everyone except these refs XD
There has to be conclusive evidence though. I think it was interference, but I couldn't see any angle that clearly showed contact before the puck crossed the line
@@brianlavalley3983 weirdly enough you don't actually see the puck ever cross the line either... Everyone is assuming it crossed but he definitely pushes the pad
@@brianlavalley3983 What do you mean? the contact is what makes Ned's pad move across the goal line, then he swings it back out in an attempt to not get completely pushed in.
Ignoring whether or not it was indeed interference. Anyone else find it hilarious that they can say the call on the ice stands, when the call on the ice was no goal?
I think they technically reversed the call on the ice when they made the good goal call after the first review, but I like the way you think.
I mean he has every right to be angry
@@russo9474 you're f*cking blind bud. Stop watching hockey.
@Russo94 exactly! Stick made contact with the pad, but it wasn't the stick that pushed the pad into the net..goaltender's momentum was. Stick or no Stick, skate and puck was crossing that goalline regardless.
@@josharmour1549 Motion of the stick looked counter productive to the puck going in, he was sweeping out to get at the puck, not pushing in. I think it was a good challenge decision but getting tossed over losing it was a little silly.
@@russo9474 Are you blind?!
@@josharmour1549 LOL. The skate was stopped until the stick pushed it in.
I could listen to Mickey and Ken all day.
You and me both
Uncle Fester has every right to be pissed off, terrible call.

😂😂
I am so glad I'm not the only one who calls him that.
Lmaooo I've been calling him the penguin but that's much more accurate
Y'all wrong, that's Gru.
Man. I think hockey is the greatest sport on Earth, hands down, but my God has the NHL made a mess of the whole experience. It's just so tiring to watch them run these games into the ground time and time again.
I agree man it’s freaking exhausting. How the hell is a new fan supposed to learn the rules if after almost 30 years I don’t even know them anymore.
This thread is already gold lol
It feels like they’re trying to make it as boring and as tame as possible
It is NOT because of the RULES.
No blue lines, 4 vs 4, then I'll watch. Otherwise, GWG off deflections and bad refs, no thanks.
@@LDehaut are you stupid? 4 v 4 with no blue lines????? LMFAO
What IS goaltender interference anymore? What does a KICKED goal look like anymore? Get the rules right NHL!
I agree the kicked goal rule is just silly. Seen so many goals kicked in this year that, by the rule as it stood for as long as I can remember, would have been waved off. They seem to call majors for what has been and remains a double minor in the rules book. If they want to make a double minor into a major, just change the rules. It is frustrating with the current state of what the rules are and how they are employed on the ice, so very inconsistent and confusing for all involved.
I agree
The rules are clear. It's how they are enforced that is the problem.
The kick in the devils isles game was a clear kick no goal
Watch the Penguin player’s stick, there is no flex in the shaft when it looks like it was up against the pad. There is no real evidence that he pushed the goalie’s pad over the line.
Leagues gotta do something about these refs. Funny how bad they’ve been since gambling has been jammed down our throats
I have almost quit hockey and football since the gambling every commercial, pregame, between periods/quarters, post game etc
Well, I'm not saying you're wrong in general but this video has nothing to do with the refs. They didn't decide any of this.
The league makes this call
I mean, the refs can be better but the reviews are done in Toronto- they just do what the situation room says. But I LOVE how the XFL has been transparent with communication between the refs and situation room, I'd love the NHL to add this for accountability.
You do know when it gets reviewed. It’s Toronto that makes the call with the refs. Not just the refs.
Not only stick on the pad. But stick on the tendies glove prior to the pad. Unreal.
I do want to know their reasoning. Regardless of whether you think the goalie is knocking the puck or not, there was a stick to the pad before the puck crossed the line, and there was a sudden trajectory change immediately after the contact. I can't think as of how that's not goalie interference.
“We couldn’t be able to use that anyway.”
Does he say couldn't? To me it sounds like wouldn't, but I very well could be wrong.
@@TADMG "We *wouldn't* be able to use any of that anyway."
He's officially a Red Wing now
I just wish we had a better hazing ritual than "bite the pillow and let the refs go in dry"
@@bigtenfourrubberducky sand paper no lube
While at realtime I can understand the no call, it was a bang bang play. After looking at the replay it is fairly clear the left leg pad is pushed across the line by opponents stick. I really don't know how this play got missed this bad even after frame by frame replay. The biggest issue this season has been the extreme inconsistency on replay challenges.
The NHL should consider suspending referees for terrible calls like this one
It’s the situation. Room.
Refs don't make this call.
Refs made the Charmin-soft call right before this on the Malkin flop. They came out of the tunnel in the 2nd ready to get Pittsburgh back in this game. Embarrassing that they still couldn't get it done, honestly.
@@chrismanning5232 Again, not the refs. It's Bettman and the sports betting world that controls all games.
show the Malkin dive that led to one of the PP goals.
How is that called no goalie interference???
Because it's Pittsburgh! Refs ordered to protect their golden boy Crosby!
At this point "what is the meaning of life?" is an easier question to answer than "what is goaltender interference?"

@@panda4247 Yes, but what is the question?
I think Lalonde had a point
Gained a little more respect for Derek Lalonde. Can't wait for Jomboy Media to cover this lol. LGRW
If you look close enough you can see Zucker's stick flex as he pushes the blade against Neds pad. What a joke. Although I do enjoy seeing Lalonde get fired up lol. Red Wings got the last laugh but jeez I watch A LOT of hockey and the officials are getting more and more inconsistent.
Whoever decided to reject Detroit's challebge shoild be suspended. As soon as the stick moves the goalie's pad it is interference. The puck seems still to bo on the goalie at first point of contact.
@Brandon B the only way he hit the puck is if his stick magically phased through Ned’s pad.
@Brandon B From the view I had was that the only way he could have contacted the puck from that side was to make prior conact with either the pad or the skate.
@Brandon B Bro, are you just going through these comments looking for excuses to showcase your extra chromosome or something?
As a penguins fan even I think that was goaltender interference
At first I wasn't sure, but you can see the stick blade poking out from under Neds pad as the puck is being pushed through the line so I do think it was interference. It might not have been what caused the puck to cross alone (I believe that alone was Ned's momentum) but it was there.
That's actually crazy to me. Do you think players shouldn't be allowed to make any contact with a goalie when the puck is not firmly in their grasp? Genuinely asking, I don't mean to be rude. This is just so not even close to a penalty 10 years ago it's hard for me to even wrap my head around the concept. I realise we took it a bit far back in the day, maybe don't slash at a goalie's glove if he has the puck in there. But the idea that an offensive player shouldn't try and jam in a puck that is somewhat covered is literally antithetical to the sport of hockey.
@Vegetable brother, it's not that deep. Any other game it would have been called. I'm glad it went the penguins way, but nonetheless it was a bad call
@Scard4L1fe21 I'm not arguing whether or not it would've been called in other games, I'm asking if it should be called. Pretty telling that you a. can't see the difference and b. took such a docile question so personally. Chil out
That was a horrible call! Coach was right! Don’t blame him for being upset. Wings won it in the end!
pens going to the playoffs (even if they get eliminated) Detroit not even in the hunt. I'll take the lose tonight. good goal!!!
@Brandon B lol the Penguins get the refs to suck them every game…oh no they didn’t for once
@Brandon B Are you disabled? How'd the refs screw you at the end? By putting on a convincing David Perron mask and scoring goals?
@Brandon B wings won it by scoring multiple goals later to seal the win. You’ve commented on like every post related to this. Just give up bud.
@brandonb4822come on man I'm a penguins fan and you're just embarrassing yourself
No Goal
@Brandon B he pushed the pad into the net haha
The worst part is that they claimed the call was confirmed. If they had said that the call stands, meaning they didn't see clear enough evidence of interference, that would be one thing, and perhaps understandable. But there is no way that replay confirmed that there wasn't.
So I guess we can just push goalie pads into the net now??
That call was ridiculous
“GO BACK to the other angle guys”
You can tell even Zucker knows he pushed the pad in.
get mad coach. love to see it
There can be no impartiality in this game with sports betting. IMO when sports betting started getting advertised game in game out things have gotten much worse in terms of officiating. What's more is how blatantly obvious it is. Corruption from the top down...
THIS
You can't push the goalie into the net when he has the puck. Awful call from Toronto.
It's not the refs or situation room that makes these calls anymore. It all comes down to sports betting.
And then the boys bent em over and Perron got a hattrick 😂
Puck don't lie
Despite the leagues best efforts 😂
@@benderandownz indeed.
The inconsistency in these calls is unbelievable lol. This definitely looked like goaltender interference
it should be no goal bc the goalie got pushed by jeff carter stick
actually it was Zucker
Seems crystal clear that the stick contact pushed the goalies leg behind the goal line. So by 2023 NHL standards they nailed this call.
Looks good on Lalonde to call out the refs on this bs call.
derek lalonde is right that is goalie intefirence u cant hit ur stick on a goalies pad the refs should be suspende for that call
Does video review and calls being overturned depend on who is working in the Toronto review room? All you want is constancy. Games should not be decided by whomever happens to be in charge of reviews that day in question.
It has nothing to do with the refs or the situation room. It all comes down to if your one of Bettman's teams or one he's biased against and, the biggest factor in regular season play, sports betting.
Referee is blind. That's definitely goaltender interference.
It's not the refs
@@jeffreycairns767lol exactly
I have seen this before in College Hockey twice!!! They review something via video replay then after the review happens the coach of the other team challenges the same review looking for something different not seen in the review. Both reviews were for a 5 minute major penalty and after one got called the other challenged for a different 5 minute major penalty due to skirmishes breaking out after the initial penalty happens.
So the officials were like "Wow guys we got something right this time!" Then realized they didn't. So to rectify the situation they made another wrong call.
I am waiting for the official call one of these days to be "We don't know."
@@CorporateCornholio They've done that before, just hid it by saying something along the lines of "there's no clear evidence"
Woah you're telling me the PENGUINS, who are in a very tight playoff race, benefitted from a wrong call?
Never in my life would I have expected that
The Red Wings coach was correct. There was clearly goalie interference. I hope there is some sort of penalty for referees when they screw up like this. And there should be an official apology from the NHL to the Red Wings coach.
The officiating is just trash. The league should be embarrassed.
I’ve never been more pissed off at calls throughout the year than I have with this year lol. Even on calls where my team isn’t playing. It’s ridiculous lol.
The refs in this league are embarrassing. Between them and the fanatics deal it’s a pretty rough time to be a hockey fan. There is no accountability at all
Do t forget the Roger tv deal. Screwed that one up too. Time for buttman to go
What the point of reviewing if you don't get the call right?
they did clearly it was a goal.
Well the first was to see if it crossed the line, the red wings wanted a call for goaltender interference
@@itsa-itsagames they don't wanna hear that it's typically homerism. if it doesn't go our way it wrong.
@Michael Becker can't push a goalies pad in the net with your stick, learn hockey.
The NHL has a way of making hockey a terrible sport for television.
I literally can't watch regular season games anymore, it's just unbearably slow
John Hynes evolves into Jim Montgomery and then finally into Derek Lalonde.
As usual, Penguins get all of the help from the league.
little butt hurt are we?
I mean if they didn’t someone on the Penguins would whine since that’s all they do when something doesn’t go there way
And they still couldn't win 😂
ok. is there a point to your comment?
If they don't they will go bankrupt for the third time
Was it Kings of the Beach where you could argue with refs to get calls overturned?
Yes it was. I still have that game on NES. I've never heard of anyone else knowing that game!🤣
That's the same ref that tossed Crosby earlier in the season. Garrett Rank.
I want to know what the rule is that's being argued for interference. Can't push the goalie with the puck into the net I think, but I think it requires the whistle to be blown for stoppage which it wasn't. Would be nice to have a rulebook breakdown. Hopefully Eck will do it on his channel.
A player cannot score a goal by pushing the goaltenders pads with his stick. Since Zucker never made contact with the puck, it should have been goaltender interference and no goal. A pretty simple call that you see made several times per season.
What would the whistle have to do with anything? If a goalie is sorta-kinda on the puck but the ref can see it, are players allowed to push the pile on the goalie and force him and all his personal artifacts into the net with him? Of course not, and it's because of this rule.
It’s not even close terrible call
@Brandon B Pushing the goaltender so they move the puck across the line means no goal. So at 0:23 you can see the attacker forcefully pushing his stick towards the puck and the skate and pad of the goalie, so forcefully that he moves the goal in the process and eventually spins the goalie around.
@Brandon B Are you a native?
What bothers me most is the refs said the call was CONFIRMED with the goalie interference, which means they saw nothing towards the play being interference. I could understand if it the call STANDS for lack of evidence, but still! Coach has all the right to argue how bad that call was tho
the refs have been the worst this season in my 40 years of watching
Terrible call, the league will talk to these refs about the decision after this game no doubt
Let’s be honest here. No they won’t lol.
Nah. The NHL wants Pittsburgh in the playoffs. They have one of their chosen messiah's Crosby on the team and love talking about him, especially on CBC. I know Pittsburgh isn't a Canadian city but Crosby has a huge fan base in Canada.
Well, the goalie has the puck, it`s the pens players stick that pushes the pad and the puck over.
No goal.
P.S. it fits the refs, even with video they can`t get it rigth. Will the league do smth about it?
It’s the league helping/making the call in that case. That’s wild part about a lot of replays. It’s not like there is groups of refs calling things slightly different. It is a centralized group that has consistency issues.
My lip reading was 99% on point. I agree with every word coach said!
Trash call...you can apparently push the goalies pad in the net with the puck...
This is gonna be a good Jomboy breakdown
Thank God the Red Wings essentially nullified this bullshit call by winning the game by 3 anyway
The coach was correct that was goaltender interference and the goal should NEVER been allowed.
I'd lean towards no goal. Can't push the pad in. However, they clearly determined that the push wasn't what caused the pad to cross the line (it was the goalie who did it himself) so it's a good goal.
End of the day, some stuff HAS to be subjective and the ppl in charge made their decision.
This rule is a complete joke at this point.
He pushed the pad, but it looks like the puck was already over the line by the time he pushed it.
It's pretty obvious that he pushed it in, but they probably refused to overturn the overturn because they couldn't actually see the stick on the pad. Over-review and coaches' challenges are ruining the flow of the game.
There's no inconsistency on these types of calls at all. Clearly not a goal, but still called off after they had a good look at it. Great job NHL, the pinnacle of consistently being inconsistent.
Why even put blue paint down in front of the goal if this is a good goal? What a joke.
This particular situation doesn't have anything to do with the crease, though...
to whoever got into the heads of NHL executives and said, "we need the fastest, most exciting game in the world, to be stopped dead for 10 minutes more often". Thank you. You've made the game infinitely worse.
Wow so much for video review. They still got it wrong. He clearly used his stick to push the goaltenders pad
I feel your pain Derek
Can a stick alone be considered goalie interference? If it can be your gonna have to wave off goals where they got 90% puck but did knick a pad on the follow through. The rule must be written somewhere but often times people want a judgement call.
Derek Lalonde has gorgeous hands
I don’t even know why people are shocked that the refs always side with Pittsburgh anymore. It’s the most egregious favoritism I’ve ever seen in any sport.
They need split screen with two cameras synchronized times. Looked to me pretty obvious the player jammed his stick under the pads and shoved the goalie over the line.
Replace whoever reviews stuff in Toronto.
One of the worst calls I've seen in my entire life. I've been a hockey fan for over 40 years. Not a Red Wings fan, but a hockey fan... still... despite terrible calls. I'm speechless on this one!
The Pens made contact with the goalie in the crease before the puck crossed the line. In what world is that not GI? They completely botched that one.
That should have been a no goal - you cant push a goalies pad ANYWHERE, you cant make contact with your stick on the goalie when the puck is in play, which for a fraction before it crossed the line, the puck was still in play, and only crossed the line when the interference occured. Otherwise, Nedjelkovic would have probably kicked it in by himself because it was stuck under his left kneepad.
There’s much more evidence the puck crossed the goal line than there is of goalie interference. IMO.
I’m a bruins fan but that’s goaltender interference, clear as day. That’s one I’d like to see the coach launch sticks onto the ice that call was so bad.
right up there with... whats a catch ?
that's a dangit
I don’t need a mike to know what coach said. 😂
What happens if all the coaches get kicked out? Does the backup goalie throw on a jersey suit and tie and coach the boys to victory?
Get wrecked Pens
That's rare
Not only the lack of any sort of rule organization, but I love how the refs get so offended when they get called out on their terrible calls. "Weeehhhhh I dont like you so you have to leave!"
Yet they can scream and curse at players all the time. Refs with their massive egos and no accountability have become like modern day cops.
that was no goal period
The pad was pushed into the net, obviously not a legal goal.
If getting a call right is boring, then let the game be boring
Wow. Another terrible call by the NHL. Why don't they just get beer league refs in?
Probably because it wouldn't make a difference.
Probably because refs have nothing to do with these rulings.
The NHL as a whole is the problem here - not individual officials. It's deeply systemic.
This play makes me think of offensive goaltending in basketball. It's probably going in but you still aren't allowed to touch it. It was probably going in but doing a can opener move on the pad should be called no goal.
Even if they had 200 video angles it wouldn't matter because when the NHL wants "their" decision they get the ruling that goes with it
Why to people not understanding the refs don’t make the call when a goal is under review it goes to Toronto every time
As a red wings fan I can say with unbiased opinion that I believe Ned flexed his leg due to be jammed/hit by the stick causing a reflex in his leg and the puck to cross. The only one who will know if there was enough force to cause a push to constitute as goaltender interference are Ned and Carter. I'm not surprised it didn't get changed but I think Lalonde still had a valid argument and shouldn't have warranted a misconduct. Themselves the breaks unfortunately.
Nah, that was goaltender interference. Period.
What an educational rebuttal simp.
That is goaltender interference he push the pad before the puck cross the line which also help the puck cross the line
Jomboy should do a video on this one. Pretty easy to see what Lalonde was saying 😂😂.
