This is the first of 8 Piano Trios written by this German composer, influenced obviously by Brahms, but never rivaled him. He wrote a lot of chamber music and showed a degree of invention that is interesting to those not familiar with his music.

I really don't hear how it is influenced by Brahms. It's also written before Brahms's first piano trio, isn't it ?

@@arielorthmann4061 I can't say that whether it was written before Brahms' first piano trio or not, would make any difference whatsoever as to if it was influenced by him.
Kiel's music is based upon German principles set up by Schubert & Schumann, and who followed directly in their footsteps? A certain Mr. Johannes Brahms.
I'm sorry, but if you study how Brahms constructed music, and with the scores in front of us (sadly I haven't got them), I could reference at least 5 chromatic dialogues and interval progressions that are straight out of his style of composition. And that's in the first movement alone.

Maybe it's time to stop seeing the History of music as a succession of rare genius who establish styles or languages, and instead as a succession of styles which are interpreted personally by the various composers - of which we currently selected by routine a very strict mainstream canon.

@@DavidA-ps1qr I can say it was. It was composed in 1850 when Brahms was 17 years old.

Esattamente!
