    I love the idea of a 2nd hi hat and the lowbos just looks so cool, however Id tnink that somethign like the DW remote hi hat stand mounted on your Kick woudl be more versatile for youd be able to hit hats with sticks, brushes etc, liek a normal hi hat;. Olus it be great to putr shakers on one of the hats.
    Casn someone please point out the zadvantages of a low boy et up oversomerhign like a remote hi hat stand? Thanks

    I can't see many drummers forking out for this thing. There is a reason we moved from the low boy to the hi hat.

      funny, i was actually looking for exactly this to go on my right side to replace a sluggish remote cable hat. that being said it's DW and i'm going to wait for a cheaper version to come out from gibraltar or dixon or something.

      famitory I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a cheaper off brand lowboy to appear; it's a speciality tool and it took 80 years for this one to come back. I'm glad it did, so cool

      @@jaikwillis you were right. it turns out it's really easy to turn a broken hihat stand into one, though, which i just did. blast from the past

      Actually, with the fourth era of jazz coming back, I can see it happening.

    And the reason why Keith Moon threw his hi hat in the swimming pool. Its in the way. Back when people could actually play drums, they set thier roto toms to the left of the smallest mounted toms. Once setup perfectly, the hi hat was in the way. The hi hat was never meant to be beaten with sticks, thats why it has a foot pedal. We chopped our hi hats down to a low boy in 1973. Now you can mount a pair of closed or semi closed set of high hats anywhere. If you simply must beat on them. But you can not play your rotos correctly when the hi hat is in the way. Double bass pedals are a lowboy are da bomb.

      If the hihat wasn't meant to be played with sticks, the cymbals wouldn't sit at a playing level. Stupid comment.

    just one question.. why?

    • @drumchannel
      @drumchannel  7 років тому +6

      It allows drummers to stack cymbal effects, add a hi-hat tambourine, or simply keep time the way they would with their main hi-hat. Percussionists can combine it with a pedal cajon to create the ultimate coffee house trap kit.

      why not use a standard stand or even a cable operated hi-hat?
      by using this you eliminate a very important aspect of a hi-hat; being able to easily hit it with a stick.
      cowbell and tambourine pedals have been around for ages

      This lowboy hi-hat stand is not meant to be playing on with sticks. Many percussionists today only use a hi-hat as an effect cymbal with their feet- this stand is easy to incorporate into a small-gig setup, and its size and weight make carrying and setup effortless.

      @@pallindsetmo3393 the low-boy originated in the 1920s, and predates the hi hat. It was meant to be played solely (pun intended) with the foot.
