Don't forget that the defender can retreat in this game (unlike any other edition of A&A). It's extremely helpful for preserving your forces, especially as the Axis in the late game.
Yeah, I did try that a couple of times and lost all the units before they could skeedadle. I do like the retreat option, though. It would be interesting to add that to some other versions!
Happy New Year! 🎉 Although I haven’t had the chance to play the game yet, I’ve noticed that the British seem to have limited units on the Eastern Front. If I were playing as the Axis powers, I’d focus on reinforcing Tunis and Mareth to establish a strong defensive line. Meanwhile, I’d allocate a significant part of the resources to disrupt the convoy in Algeria and launch an offensive against Cairo. What do you think of this strategy?
Interesting thoughts, and they could work! The struggle for the Axis is that the Italian units are SO WEAK that they take up space and water-down the punch, and although a push towards Cairo would put more pressure on UK, they can add more units to Cairo than the Axis can bring, unless they use a lot of air power, which is expensive. Although I have heard of the Axis taking Cairo, I think the game is designed to have the Allies push the Axis back towards the middle of the board and the Axis player struggles to have a last stand that could go either way. In the west, I think the Axis have to decide whether to slow down Allied reinforcements or kill them once they land. They can't do both, and that's what I have tried to do...
I'm in the middle of one right now, but it has been put on a temp hold due to a tragedy in my opponent's life. We hope to get it going again soon, though. Sometimes games have to take a back seat to life. If I had the space (and another board) I'd do a solo one.
@@superilikeeggsyo hey, no rudeness, I like having a huge map to play on, with a bunch of small little proxies wars and political Intrigue. I'm not biased to the axis, I'm just saying I prefer g40
@@codywaterman93 I think it will be similar to optional rules in other games: spend more cash for a better unit that may or may not survive, but the odds are that it will inflict/absorb more damage than the standard units. I suppose until I see it in actual game play, it is difficult to know if it tilts the balance...?
Yep. There are some suggestions listed below, so perhaps take a look at those. I hear from people who have played a lot that the game is fairly balanced, but tends to swing in the Allies' favour. I think the mines play a huge role in this game, so if the dice are hot or cold, that could be the difference.
Hello! I have a question. What do you do with the old global war 36 board? The v3 map? Can you still play on it? I have another channel devoted to making board games (lieutenantgaming57) and i was thinking that the gw 36 map would be an awesome place to start. Thank you for replying!
It is a very nice board, and most of the changes to v4 are esthetic. There are some actual territory changes here and there, but v3 is still a solid game! The rules are still available, too. Having all the convoy lines, railways, and terrain really open the door for a lot of fun options in gameplay. Sounds like a fun idea to get into...all the best!
17:00 You asked, you I will give you what general advice for Axis that I can think of right now. Happy New Year: 1.) From the word go, you need to decide whether you're playing aggressively (aiming to kill Cairo and trigger the instant win) or defensively (aiming to simply survive and hold Tunis until the end of the game). Trying to do both or "going with the flow" will result in catastrophic failure. 2.) Keeping your air unit count at the max is vital. Air units ignore supply, ignore stacking limits, and can defend convoy zones. 3.) Fight for Malta as much as possible, even if it is costing you units. If UK loses supply to Malta, they are typically unable to recover it with their drastically reduced income. This has ripple effects on the rest of the Allied side of the game. Even if you are not initially successful at knocking out the island, you are still forcing UK to spend large chunks of money defending it instead of on land units that can take/hold ground. 4.) Remember to retreat on defense when needed. For the relatively low cost of (usually) a few infantry you can keep your important units (tanks/arty/anti-tank) alive to help with the final battle. As the game drags on and the Allies gradually start applying pressure to the convoys, it becomes basically impossible to get these types of units ashore, so you need to keep the ones you've got alive for as long as possible. 5.) When the US shows up (so immediately in the Torch game), you need to either start making your final preparations to go for Cairo or completely overhaul your strategy to full-on retreat from Egypt + transition to buying mainly defensive units (mines, fighters, anti-tank, etc.).
Well, that's a tall order, but here is a link to the rules: www.axisandallies.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Axis-Allies-Pacific-1940-Second-Edition.pdf Let me know if that helps!
@TheHilltopPillbox thank you! Also i heard the Europe part was even more complicated than the Pacific. I love watching the channel but now that i finally got it i realized how complicated it is lol.
Good to see you playing a lot and enjoying the new game. Enjoy your new year! Hopefully 2025 is better than 24.
Thank you! Yes, it is always the hope that the next year is better than the last...thanks for commenting!
used to play Axis and Allies 20 yrs ago but we doubled everything. also had the board enlarged to fit the size of a kitchen table. fun times.
Fun times! I did do a video or two of the original with double money...lots of options!
Seasons Greetings HTPB. We met in Prince George two summers ago when I played as the Italians. Regards from Alex

Why? Having a A&A game where the Allies can actually win is kind of refreshing

have you tried adding Tiger tanks for the Germans?
Not yet...I may do that on my next game, though. Maybe that will help...?
@@TheHilltopPillbox yeah it may help to go through the optional rules. I'm interested in how adding the Tigers could affect the balance of the game.
