Q:"why is your bottom at the middle?"
A: "A human will eventually outrun a horse"
"butt" was always a funny word when we were younger ofc, but classifying "butt" as a unit of measurement is where I died
i want to laugh. but michael's seriousness makes me feel serious too.
"We can pretty much only outsprint vegetables"
Thanks, Michael.
Don’t be negative, we can still win a cross-country marathon against cheetahs!
Michael: "Humans are *the* running animal"
Me: Gets exhausted from standing still for 1 minute
Fun fact: running at low speeds for a certain amount of time is less tiring for a human's legs, butt and feet, than standing for the same amount of time
@@matteofaccin6636 Ain't running at low speed just walking quickly?
Basically, I want you to tell me what speed (in km/h) is considered slow running.
I love how Michael just takes a shower thoughts and converts them into a 10 to 20 minute video that somehow manages to blow your mind with more information than you came for
Michael: why is your BOTTOM in the MIDDLE?
Michael 7 minutes later: humans are THE running animal.
I can't believe this series is 9 years old already. It feels like just yesterday that I was waiting with bated breath for each new episode.
"A human, running like a quadruped, is creepy."
So you're scared of babies?
HeyItzRane They don’t do that. They crawl. They use their hands and knees, not feet.
5:54 I didn't know the word simp still has the same meaning as now back then
“Simp” isn’t a new thing, it just became more common with e-girls
"Your butt is magnificent."
I'm tearing up... nicest thing anyone's ever said to me... *sniff*
I bet everyone who read that sniffed when they read *"sniff"*
Or is that just me...
Anyone who hasn't heard of Vsauce before would probably think he's high 24/7 because of the titles and thumbnails.
Can we just appreciate the fact that he brought in an Olympic runner to just say hi
@@mvmlego1212 Yeah, at the end, why did she run into a fence when there's a perfectly good track there? So awkward
I’m glad you did a video on this.
I’ve been wanting to get to the bottom of this for a long time.
"Your butt is magnificent"
Oh.
Well, thank you~
I read it in Steven's (Steven Universe) voice, except for the quote, i read it in Michael's voice.
3:49 he carried that joke like a champ
I like how Michael is able to find scientific papers or publications about anything.
“Hrrrn I’m tryna run from that caveman, but he’s dummy thicc and the clap of his asscheeks keeps alerting my family and he still outruns and stabs us with that pointy stick he got.” -a mammoth 40,000 years ago probably
"We can pretty much only out-sprint... vegetables"
I was a fairly fast sprinter when I was younger. One day I was out in the woods and saw this short, squat armadillo waddling through the woods. I started to sprint towards it, but before I'd taken more than a step or two, the slow-looking armadillo had taken off like it was fired out of a gun. I didn't even try to catch it as it was obviously moving faster than I ever could.
5:30 " . . .big old bottoms probably spread their genes/jeans quite well" (double meaning there)
Micheal, you are the best. Thanks for educating my stepson and being genuinely great content on a platform that is largely void of such things. Also, we met your Doppelganger in Turkey.
i discovered you day before yesterday and i love your content .Your videos are very informative and infotaining.keep it up guys
"Butthead"
"Thanks, I always knew my head wasa superlative object that set me apart from the rest of the animal kingdom."
Got'em.

Alright ok

Holy shit
Those quadraped videos in the beginning scared the shit out of me
Sir, this is a Wendy's drive through.
You Tube... In a *Wendy's* drivethrough... Chief, we need to talk.
I thought this comment was somehow related to that criminal that got murdered by the police until I noticed the date
"Bet you can't do a whole video on butts"
Michael Stevens: "Hold my beer"
5:55 “a lot of simps won’t like this song”
I love how comments left years after the Video came out are still being liked by thousands of people. Really shows how timeless Vsauces content is
that girl cameo was so random... XD
i thought she`d tell something about her running technique but nope xD
Your videos and ideas are one of the only things I enjoy anymore
I have a strange nostalgia for this age of Vsauce. Can’t tell what’s different now, but I just love these old videos :)
That animation will give me nightmares, it's 3 am here :(
The animations were indeed creepy and it should have warned me that such would happen.
To be honest, I'm always a little bit afraid to watch Vsauce videos at night because he almost always put some kind of creepy stuff in the video (if it's not a picture or video, it's something he says or the music). It's 5am here and I'm watching this quadruped kid walking but I just can't stop watching this channel (unless it's the "Why Are Things Creepy?" episode; that one is impossible to watch at this hour - this is my warning to y'all).
Vsauce says "Butts" like he's from a different planet
Midnight, I'm relaxed, ready to watch vsauce video and chill with my snack.
Michael: "little did you know about that kid coming"
I paused and read that reddit thread and it’s amazing. You won’t be disappointed..
Me at 11pm: I really should get to sleep
Me at 3am: hmm yes I should watch “Why is your BOTTOM in the MIDDLE?”
Did anyone else at the end think he was going to say “Catarina, you’ve got a nice butt.”
@@dawnstar24 scouse birds are out of your reach, step off
(also, don't say that about people over the internet)
How can this man talk 10 minutes abound butts and still make it interesting?
1:35 That's what he said.
4:53 - Coming from you, that means a lot. :)
Im impressed how he produces high quality content and satisfying videos out of ridiculous ideas
This is the type of content we need
Michael: "Soooo... Katarina.... i'm doing a video.... about... Butts... would like to be in it?"
I've always been more of a top than a bottom.
This guy never ceases to amaze me...
Vsauce, answering the questions I didn't know i had that I needed to know
Michael, it has been quite a while since I started watching you and quickly I realized that you are one of the few youtubers that have never once let me down. I know that you usually point your sources at the descriptions but I'm really intrigue by your research process like where do you begin, what are your usual primary sources... If you ever see this comment, please hit me up.
Where he begins is asking questions. Watch hit Ted-Talk on in. Very interesting. And if you mean research-wise I don't think I can help you that much :/. Probably Wikipedia and then goes on through the sources there. That's my guess!
Have the internet browsing habit of someone with ADD, and then make a youtube video of it=Vsauce.
micheal: we have incredible endurance while runnning
me eating a pound of cheesey potatoe tots : Oh yeah
Thanks Micheal, I'm watching this at 2 in the morning
In my opinion, this is how you are supposed to teach in schools.
I can say for myself (and probably many others) I can learn more from an hour on youtube than a semester in school.
Thank you Vsauce, CGP Grey, Slow Mo Guys, Young Turks (most of the time), Brusspup, KipKay, Awe Me, and Extra Credits (aka: Daniel Floyd)
why waste governments funds on decent schools when you could use it all on the military? /s
vsauce: the channel that can talk about butts for 10 minutes
Fantastic insight Michael 👌
old vsauce videos show up, i click, i get this weird wave of feeling mortal and try to accept death and i cant, resulting in a panic attack and i try to focus on michael, vsauce, but i cannot because of my extreme anxiety over the fact everybody and everything will die, we will all literally become nothing. but hey the first time someone got mooned was in 66a.d : )
you can't pause vsauce without him making a funny face.
Just here to remind you of your comment 8 years ago. And you're not wrong either.
Just here to remind you of your comment 9 years ago, and to remind of the reminder of the comment made 2 months ago.
@Thine Faithful Crusader just here to remind you of the comment you posted yesterday
"You butt is magnificent"
Michael are you hitting on me?
Timeless content Vsauce!
In that Reddit thread we see someone using the word “simp”... in 2012.
We can only imagine how u/[deleted] must feel about their use of the word today.
0:07 Nightmare Fuel.
My sister just asked me: "what is this?"
I answered: "a video about butts."
She was weirded out.
Michael answers questions nobody asked.
Thanks for that
This is the type of stuff I like to watch at 3 am
Not only do humans' unique bipedal movement help to make us more efficient over long distances, but it helps us to do things like carry extra water with us while we run. That's a huge advantage in itself.
I actually meant that we have hands with which to carry water in bottles and stuff. I don't know why I didn't say it like that. :P
Well I actually googled a Camel's hump, to see what it was made of. And the hump is made of adipose tissue, which stores water, and it's stacked up on it's back, instead of distributed over the body evenly to keep the camel cooled off.
Our ass is where we store a lot of adipose tissue, and it's also concentrated away from our core. So maybe in the oddest sense, our asses do sort of act like a camel's hump.
I _guess_ it can, but I don't think that's what it's _for_. But that's interesting.
The most important part of the story was missed by the videos entirely. Humans cook their food, which means we not only get more nutrients because cooking pre-digests food, but it also means we were able to evolve, over the 200,000 years of cooking, a longer gut. Raw food is dangerous for a longer gut because it's more susceptible to food poisoning. This is why dogs, for example, can eat rotting raw meat because it passes through them faster.
My point is, humans are the most efficient mammal at turning food into energy. It's this more than anything else that enables us to cover greater distances than any other land animal.
Vsauce always answering the most important questions.
I remember being 11 and absolutely terrified by the people walking on all fours. Now that I see it again, it's not that scary at all
WTF is that shirt at the start of the video? Why is there even a pocket there???
lol. its a cool shirt. how does the paper come out so crisp and unwrinkled? is it a long actual pocket? or is it open and the paper touches his skin. imagine getting a paper cut on your stomach or chest. lol oww
as someone who seriously never gets scared at any horror film, i had to change the tab seeing that beginning animation. i can't describe how or why it creeps me out so much, but it does.
Because from a modern humans perspective it is unnatural, therefore making it creepy. It also reminds you of a predator, at least instinctively any way. In Micheal's video about why things are creepy he mentions that the creepy feeling we get can be attributed to a now defunct instinct to sense danger.
Random Default i know, but it's so weird. it looks so unnatural and creepy and i know it's a natural response but jesus christ.
I had a dream about this video last night after not having watched it in nearly a decade, so here i am
Me: wins a lottery

This makes me really excited about butts. They are truly a marvel of genetics. I'm going to go tell my girlfriend how magnificent her butt is.
+Jordan Shank She was very receptive to the fascinating science of butts. And I love her for it.
It’s 2 am and I didn’t need to see those images and videos.
Oh! How I miss old Vsauce. The first UA-cam Channel I subscribed.
Buttload is a real measurement?! Hell yeah! Now we need to make a shit ton an actual unit of measurement and the world will be complete
What if you're full of shit? How much shit would it take to fill a human body?
I know this comment is old, but wondered if you knew this or not: referring to things as shit, comes from the acronym S.H.I.T. which stood for "Ship High in Transit". When things were shipped across seas, certain objects could not be stored on the lower decks, and has the word shit written on them to indicate that.
When talking about the ability of a human in long distance running I'm surprised you didn't mention the Man vs Horse Marathon in Britain.
The event is held annually where some of the contests run and others ride on horseback. In the 23 times the race has been run, four people have been able to outrun the fastest horse in their respective year.
i just realized he decided to make this video after talking about it on his ted talk
Why does this video only have 36 likes? It should have MILLIONS more. 😢
Imagine being the animal getting tracked by a human. It just keeps going! It's not even that fast! But then eventually you're just too exhausted to run away and you have to watch as it catches up with you and kills you. Humans are terrifying, man.
"Why do you own hunting weapons?? That's so cruel!"
"If you knew the alternative... trust me, it's nicer to sneak up on them."
We actually play ourselves, in part, with that fear when it comes to zombies.
Think the tradition slow shambling ones. A big fear with them is the fact they just keep coming. Don't stop. Don't give up. Doesn't matter how far you run, how long you run for, it'll keep following until you can't run any more.
@Jehanlos Roman I was wondering if I'd regret clicking on this random link in the comments. I d i d n ' t
Forget equippable hunting weapons, we ARE hunting weapons.
Another great example (which does play into the stalking thing a bit) is assassination. Understanding and learning about your opponent enough to hunt them down on their own grounds is a trait humans have had since before weapons. Duck call noise machines? Thats the relatively newer equipment in our learning and conspiring nature. Tracking through footprint, excretions, and other educational resources are an incredible skill humans have been learning for a lot of generations.
"The Most Dangerous Game" comes to mind. Remember that was a story of a human, hunting another human for SPORT, letting him go after successfully tracking him down the first time, the hunted human turned around and used some of our other skills (trapping) to fight against that, and ended up beating the better equipped, more skilled, and smarter (but not saner) person. Granted, that story is an example of the "Human" here not winning, but it is important to remember that probably wasn't the first person the "Human" hunted, only the last. The "Human" here also was hubristic and eccentric given how he tracked and if he wasn't making a game out of it (something hunting for food would not have to the extent he did) he could just have shot and bagged the hunted person right then and there the FIRST TIME he went hunting. It was also important to denote that humans were the most dangerous game. On a planet full of things that wanted to kill you. Humans.
TL;DR we are a group of minmaxed DND characters for intelligence and constitution, and we made it WORK for us.
woohoo! a new vsauce!
I like how he says these questions bc I have these questions sometimes like why do we have a nose or something
Where is the video at 0:29 from? it looks from old times but the man is well nourished and well trained
