Michael, it has been quite a while since I started watching you and quickly I realized that you are one of the few youtubers that have never once let me down. I know that you usually point your sources at the descriptions but I'm really intrigue by your research process like where do you begin, what are your usual primary sources... If you ever see this comment, please hit me up.
Where he begins is asking questions. Watch hit Ted-Talk on in. Very interesting. And if you mean research-wise I don't think I can help you that much :/. Probably Wikipedia and then goes on through the sources there. That's my guess!
I was a fairly fast sprinter when I was younger. One day I was out in the woods and saw this short, squat armadillo waddling through the woods. I started to sprint towards it, but before I'd taken more than a step or two, the slow-looking armadillo had taken off like it was fired out of a gun. I didn't even try to catch it as it was obviously moving faster than I ever could. 5:30 " . . .big old bottoms probably spread their genes/jeans quite well" (double meaning there)
To be honest, I'm always a little bit afraid to watch Vsauce videos at night because he almost always put some kind of creepy stuff in the video (if it's not a picture or video, it's something he says or the music). It's 5am here and I'm watching this quadruped kid walking but I just can't stop watching this channel (unless it's the "Why Are Things Creepy?" episode; that one is impossible to watch at this hour - this is my warning to y'all).
Imagine being the animal getting tracked by a human. It just keeps going! It's not even that fast! But then eventually you're just too exhausted to run away and you have to watch as it catches up with you and kills you. Humans are terrifying, man. "Why do you own hunting weapons?? That's so cruel!" "If you knew the alternative... trust me, it's nicer to sneak up on them."
We actually play ourselves, in part, with that fear when it comes to zombies. Think the tradition slow shambling ones. A big fear with them is the fact they just keep coming. Don't stop. Don't give up. Doesn't matter how far you run, how long you run for, it'll keep following until you can't run any more.
Forget equippable hunting weapons, we ARE hunting weapons. Another great example (which does play into the stalking thing a bit) is assassination. Understanding and learning about your opponent enough to hunt them down on their own grounds is a trait humans have had since before weapons. Duck call noise machines? Thats the relatively newer equipment in our learning and conspiring nature. Tracking through footprint, excretions, and other educational resources are an incredible skill humans have been learning for a lot of generations. "The Most Dangerous Game" comes to mind. Remember that was a story of a human, hunting another human for SPORT, letting him go after successfully tracking him down the first time, the hunted human turned around and used some of our other skills (trapping) to fight against that, and ended up beating the better equipped, more skilled, and smarter (but not saner) person. Granted, that story is an example of the "Human" here not winning, but it is important to remember that probably wasn't the first person the "Human" hunted, only the last. The "Human" here also was hubristic and eccentric given how he tracked and if he wasn't making a game out of it (something hunting for food would not have to the extent he did) he could just have shot and bagged the hunted person right then and there the FIRST TIME he went hunting. It was also important to denote that humans were the most dangerous game. On a planet full of things that wanted to kill you. Humans. TL;DR we are a group of minmaxed DND characters for intelligence and constitution, and we made it WORK for us.
Micheal, you are the best. Thanks for educating my stepson and being genuinely great content on a platform that is largely void of such things. Also, we met your Doppelganger in Turkey.
as someone who seriously never gets scared at any horror film, i had to change the tab seeing that beginning animation. i can't describe how or why it creeps me out so much, but it does.
Because from a modern humans perspective it is unnatural, therefore making it creepy. It also reminds you of a predator, at least instinctively any way. In Micheal's video about why things are creepy he mentions that the creepy feeling we get can be attributed to a now defunct instinct to sense danger.
Not only do humans' unique bipedal movement help to make us more efficient over long distances, but it helps us to do things like carry extra water with us while we run. That's a huge advantage in itself.
Well I actually googled a Camel's hump, to see what it was made of. And the hump is made of adipose tissue, which stores water, and it's stacked up on it's back, instead of distributed over the body evenly to keep the camel cooled off. Our ass is where we store a lot of adipose tissue, and it's also concentrated away from our core. So maybe in the oddest sense, our asses do sort of act like a camel's hump.
The most important part of the story was missed by the videos entirely. Humans cook their food, which means we not only get more nutrients because cooking pre-digests food, but it also means we were able to evolve, over the 200,000 years of cooking, a longer gut. Raw food is dangerous for a longer gut because it's more susceptible to food poisoning. This is why dogs, for example, can eat rotting raw meat because it passes through them faster. My point is, humans are the most efficient mammal at turning food into energy. It's this more than anything else that enables us to cover greater distances than any other land animal.
I love Vsauce videos. Whether they are scientific or just fun and "lighthearted" , they always provide such interesting, _valid_ information. They are always very well writen and based on actual research....with a philosophical twist, as usual, but without becoming cheesy. That's why imo it stands out among other "scientific/informative" channels. Keep up the good work guys.
I always love it when someone points out our physical evolutionary advantages. I find that so many people focus on our tools and our minds, and while they are our greatest assets, we're not completely helpless in the wild. Were somehow put into the situation where we only could hunt with a sharp object, we could do it, just like we did once before. With only our bodies.

lol. its a cool shirt. how does the paper come out so crisp and unwrinkled? is it a long actual pocket? or is it open and the paper touches his skin. imagine getting a paper cut on your stomach or chest. lol oww
Can we please note how scary endurance hunting must be to the prey? Think of it this way: you're sitting at home, reading this comment, when a psycho chainsaw murderer walks through your door. You freak and run out your house and to the driveway. You think you're safe, but then there he is, just sorta walking towards you. So you freak out again and run to the edge of your neighborhood, stopping to catch your breath. And then there he is, just casually jaunting toward you. And so this process continues until you can't run anymore. All the while you know he's going to catch you, and you can only delay the inevitable.
A common tactic for a lone wolf hunting is to spook it's prey, and then follow behind it until it's prey is exhausted at which point the wolf lopes up and eats it (the same way that humans hunted back in Kenya a hundred thousand years ago). I watched this clip of a wolf doing just this on some nature show and it was impressive. The hunt was filmed from high above in a helocopter and the picture was zoomed in. A beautiful white wolf bounds out of the bushes and spookes a deer somewhere up in Alaska. But instead of trying to put on speed, it just loped behind the frightened deer, staying in sight of it as it tried to get away. Eventually after fifteen miles the deer stumbled and tripped and spilled onto the ground at which point the wolf turned on the speed. It was over. And it was bloody well impressive.
@@oktayyildirim2911 People always say that, but it's not necessarily true. An argument could be made that "it's" is both a contraction AND a possessive. This argument is that you use an apostrophe to denote other possessives, like "the cat's toy"
@@bable6314Although it would make sense for "it's" to be a possessive for the sake of consistency, it is subject to a special exception, presumably to allow readers to more easily differentiate the possessive from the contraction.
Maybe you could explain in an episode why we are fascinated from evil. All media is full of violence, sadistic psychopaths, scheming supervillains... we watch horror movies and heck, many repeat the error of falling for bad girls/boys.
To add to your question, why is insanity also so popular? Characters like the Joker and murderers in various thriller and horror films are extremely popular, especially when they're evil.
Christoik No, and no, I do not fancy bad girls, but I noticed that too much sunshine can be harmful as well. If someone is intelligent, charismatic, extroverted, tough, cool under pressure, nothing seems to be able to destroy the mood; he/she knows what he/she wants and gets things done, then it sounds impressive, doesn't it? But I noticed that if many of these traits are in one person, I can also add egoistic, callous and often manipulative. I don't want to call them psychopaths as this would be a way too binarys point of view.

I'm glad we took the time to get to the bottom of this.
Why does this video only have 36 likes? It should have MILLIONS more. 😢
WTF is that shirt at the start of the video? Why is there even a pocket there???
lol this is my favorite video beginning ever.
lol. its a cool shirt. how does the paper come out so crisp and unwrinkled? is it a long actual pocket? or is it open and the paper touches his skin. imagine getting a paper cut on your stomach or chest. lol oww
Can anyone tell me where to find it?
@@Zebakiin not sure how you missed it..

@@THIS---GUY where to find the t-shirt xD. Like online... to buy
I still prefer the fireballs...
***** people will come out and start filming the newest viral video on youtube, "chainsaw man rocks punidas trainers"
This is why I keep a chainsaw of my own handy. Even things up a bit.
Wait, you have a car?
RUN HIS BUTT OVER!!!
That's the pitch of It Follows
that girl cameo was so random... XD
i thought she`d tell something about her running technique but nope xD
Дмитро Волошко She had a nice Butt though.
She was so expressionless most of the time.
Your videos and ideas are one of the only things I enjoy anymore
Thanks for such informative and fun videos!
I noticed you used "it's" in place of "its". The former is a contraction of "it is", while the latter is a possessive.
Theres Grammar Police in this comment thread!
Or should i say “there’s”?
@@TheEpicNoob Correct your mistake or the grammar police will pull you over!
Vsauce always knows how to get to the bottom of things.
hyuk hyuk hyuk, hardy har har, hoo hoooo (pillsbury dough boy), hoo hoo hoo hoooo (tigger's laugh), hahahahaha (elmer fudd), heeheehaha heeheehaha hehehehehe (woody wood pecker), uh huhuhuh (butt head)

I learn more from vsauce than my science class.

My science teachers aren't very good at all. Ive learned more from vsauce than any one person. And its interesting.

This makes me really excited about butts. They are truly a marvel of genetics. I'm going to go tell my girlfriend how magnificent her butt is.

THANK YOU!
8:35: "butt", "in the long run"!
Now I'm wondering if the phrase "in the long run" isn't based off of what you explained immediately prior!
We can pretty much only outsprint vegetables
Maybe you could explain in an episode why we are fascinated from evil.
All media is full of violence, sadistic psychopaths, scheming supervillains... we watch horror movies and heck, many repeat the error of falling for bad girls/boys.
You got dumped recently, haven't you?
Christoik
that or +edi is into Phillip Zimbardo's work.
To add to your question, why is insanity also so popular? Characters like the Joker and murderers in various thriller and horror films are extremely popular, especially when they're evil.
HonestyJZ
To set them apart from us, as well as making them express something that we repress.
This is the type of content we need
Nobody complimented my butt as much as you did, Michael. My self esteem sure is boosted now, thanks :D
