At last somebody who explains the playing techniques of the Udu. Not assuming you can just hit it and hope but the requirements needed to get the best from this brilliant instrument - many sincere thanks
This is so awesome. Sad im not seeing Frank. Great ideas. I went out to get an udu, almost a year ago but i did not get the clay type. It was metal so i refrained. With your explanations on use, i definitely would still like to have an udu.
I kinda hoped you were going to wrap up with a solo, combining those elements. A missed opportunity. When I heard the first "booyp" of an udu, I immediately set out to identify it--and buy one! "Whatever that is, I want one." I had an identical experience with the cuica. Nice tutorial Thanks.
same. I remember hearing it a-lot in video games (forget which one specifically that made me want one though) Majora's Mask is a game that has a song with it, "Woodfall Temple" uses it (also has a Talking Drum in parts of the tune as well).
Was looking for a kontakt library for this drum but I found this and watched this entire video. The loops you're playing are so good, and the amount of techniques are insanely interesting. Never woulda guessed this drum was this versatile. Wish u had a vid of just purely playing for 10 minutes tho
Can someone please tell Brian Melick that when all of his videos on his youtube channel are marked as for kids on UA-cam, nobody can comment on his videos or add them to playlists so they can revisit them and engage with them? I really wanted to comment on some stuff and add it to my music playlists
Sorry @pvictorsalomon8904, I do not know. Try looking up Brian Melick. I recall Brian used the name 'UduBoy' for online communications and such. I was just the audio engineer on Frank Giorgini's (RIP) Udu videos,
Hi Brian Great video! One question - are you right handed? If so do you recommend playing the udu with your left hand assigned to the bass tone? Also what is that stand you are using to hold your udu? Thank YOU!
Awesome stuff Rick! What kind of Udu are you playing? It has a great resonance and sound variety. Please let me know. I lost my Udu of 7 years playing due to an inconsoderate flight attendant while traveling internationally.
All the Udu drums in'' The Are of the Udu' were made by Frank Giorgini.. Unfortunately, Frank passed away in Oct 2023. RIP Frank. Maybe contact Brian at uduboy.com. I was the audio person on the Udu videos

Hi @BADEAU011, All the Udu drums in 'The Art of the Udu Drum' videos, were hand-made by Frank Giorgini (who passed away in October 2022. RIP Frank). Latin Percussion and a few others manufacture a line of Udu drums . I would not think they sound as good or as unique, as Frank's Udu drums See The Art of the Udu Drum, Volume1 DVD preview.
