      So I'm mostly sure that's actually a nodachi/otachi, as samurai did historically wear those on their backs sometimes, and it's far too long to be considered a katana.
      Tachi is a weapon similar to a katana (katana is a more recent version of the tachi) but unlike katana whose name translates roughly to "one move" (kata meaning move/routine) tachi translates to directly to "sword" and is the default label for non-japanese swords in the language.
      The prefix o- or no- denotes "great, big, or powerful". So if the fancy backsword is indeed moonlight crystal...it would be a literal Moonlight Nodachi, a moonlight greatsword.

      Well, historically most units did use polearms primarily, but swords in general were a common sidearm, both in Europe and Japan. In this case it's not terribly difficult to draw the parallel between European greatswords and the Japanese nodachi.
      Also, if it is recorded in history and it isn't some legend-like anecdote, it isn't nearly as uncommon as you may think.

    Sekiro just seems like an absolute breath of fresh air. The “Souls” ethos is absolutely still present, but this is still so incredibly fresh, interesting, and even a bit scary. But I just can’t wait to get my hands on it.

    Warning system is like the unblock able symbol in For Honor, sure you know you can't block it but which option are you gonna use to avoid it? Risk a move to parry it or wait bc it could be a feint

      mrdomomrdomo or, you could look at it from the flip side. Imagine if in for honor it didn’t tell you and attack was unblockable. It would be unfair difficulty and you’d have to get your ass beat multiple times to beat them rather then learn as you go. And that just interrupts the flow and doesn’t sound fun

    I LOVE coming back to these types of videos long after the game's release and looking at these speculations and discussions with the context of actually knowing the answers. Souls trailer breakdowns, Monster Hunter monster announcements (especially when the English names haven't been announced, or even when the Japanese translation of the English name is)

      @JoaK Dark Souls 3 and Nioh run preatty decent with everything on low (30 fps is the cap). But i can't ask to much from my laptop with I5-7200 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, SSD 240 gb and Nvidia GeForce 940MX can i? ;))

      I think there was mention of being able to invade as a kind of mini boss, they had the idea for Bloodborne but never did it, so maybe in this one.

    7:30 the duck at the beginning of the weapon art for the basic Katana DS3 is still one of my favorite ways to dodge horizontal swings

    I'm very excited for this. The lack of customization or leveling up stats doesn't bother me either. There are so many times in the Souls or similar games (especially on first playthrough) where you can't shake the feeling you are doing something wrong or not leveling up the "right" way. In this, it seems you just focus on the action or stealth at hand, and mastering that.

      @@sapphic_sophie Yeah, no. The teleporting thing is only if you step dodge or just jump non-directionally for some reason. As soon as I started jumping away when a grab attack came, it became easy as hell to dodge his grabs. It was still a hard miniboss, but the grabs were no longer the problem.

      @@juniperrodley9843 you’re kind of missing my original point, which was that the hit boxes in this game are really good for stabs and swords, but not great for grabs. It’s like DS2 and 3, which have kind of the same problem. I only brought up Ogre cause it’s a boss lots of people have memories struggling with.
      Also, I was mostly joking. I love sekiro, I was just poking fun at it

    The Moonlight blade iteration might be similar to the one in the AC series, since it's just like a small blade attached to your arm that shoots blade waves when you attack with it.

      Eh, From would find a way around it. Activision really has no say in the game, and From Software is known for making very difficult (but fair), and being extremely detailed in their design. That isn't really something Activision could afford to sacrifice out of a FS game even if they had the say.

      First of all, it is confirmed that From Soft has full control over their game and Activision is only handling the publishing in the west.
      Also, Activision isn't that dumb. They're in it for the money and they know From Soft games sell well because of how they're made. They wouldn't interfere with a tried and true formula just to force appeal to casual gamers. Chill out.

    On the danger warning, I don't think it's hand holding, rather it's a necessary tool. So far, in Bloodsouls, we only had 2 forms of avoiding damage: dodging (rolling or dashes) and parries. Parries are slow, and situational. Usually you only parry not on reflex but by predicting and preparing for an attack. Dodges are common, and after a while, when you memorize huge patterns you can dodge into whole combos without a problem. So, at the end, your brain doesn't need to decide between which button to press, it simply decides the direction of the dodge. If we were to make a process of how to avoid damage in Bloodsouls, it would be something like:
    1. Predict the next move
    2. Analyze the wind up
    3. Decide whether to dodge or parry
    3.a If parry, press the parry button at the right time
    3.b If dodge, decide on the direction to dodge the attack
    3.b.-2 Press the dodge button with the directional input
    In Sekiro, we add several new layers of complexity to avoiding damage, on top of the game being maybe even faster than Bloodborne, and the process would look like:
    1. Predict the next move
    2. Analyze the wind up
    3. Decide whether to dodge or parry
    3.a If parry, press the block button at the right time
    3.b If dodge, decide whether to move dash or jump
    3.b-2 If dash, decide whether to perform a dash-parry move or simply dash away
    3.b-2.a If dash-parry, perform the dash action towards the attacks at the right time
    3.b-2.b If dash away, decide on the direction to dodge
    3.b-2.b-2 Press the dash button and the directional input
    3.b-3 If Jump, decide on whether to jump or use the hook
    3.b-3.a If hook, find the spot and press the hook button
    3.b-3.b If jump, press the jump button
    Basically, in (3) we have a major divide between the player's choices, however, the player will, most of the time, be using the (3.a). This makes it very easy to fall into a misguided muscle memory and force the player into constant parrying, and limits their options. Thus, by putting a warning sign, you create a response in the player's brain that, if there is no sign, they go with (3.a), but if there is a sign, they go with (3.b). That allows the players to separate their options, and instead of being overwhelmed by a series of possible choices every attack, they get to only focus on those options that are beneficial at that moment. This is a more subtle and much more alternative to that game trope of slowing down time when you get a parry window - here, the actions follows as it should, but you get a warning that pulls your brain out of that "parry, parry, parry" mindset and allows you to explore a whole new array of options when needed, while not interrupting the "parry, parry, parry" mindset when you should be in it.
    In other words, by removing the danger sign, you are limiting player choices and actually lowering the skill cap, not increasing it.

    I know the game is really far away from release, but what about the DLC or even if there IS gonna be one?
    If there's gonna be unlockable skills does that means there are gonna be skill trees?
    Is there going to be a safe hub like in Bloodborne?
    Are the white emblems you use for your prosthetic arm gonna be stored in a chest like in Bloodborne's storage chest?
    Sorry if my questions are stupid I was just spit balling

    I hope that if the Moonlight Greatsword turns into a prosthetic weapon that it’d be a charge-style attack. The longer you hold down the button, the more powerful and larger the attack will become. I can see your character raising their arm into the air, gathering power, and unleashing a vertical beam of moonlight in front of them.

    What if your health is on the top-left, your own break bar top-center-left, enemy break bar top-center-right and the enemy health bar top-right? On top of that, they could be visually made a bit more distinguishable and you kinda get a feel, as if it was a fighting game as well. The main reason for that is the visual input. In a fast paced action game like this, you can't waste time scooting over the screen with your eyes, milliseconds can be crucial. And putting all those things at the top rather than part top, part bottom, makes you more aware of your enemy, as you are always watching what is in front, or partially "above" your character (from the players perspective), so I think that is a good idea.
    For the items and prosthetic skills, they could just stay at the bottom right or even move left, as that's what we're used to from the souls series so far.

    We all know the "secret" enemy is the giant snake from the trailer. We saw it in the trailer, and in the demo, there's a tree with it's skin hanging off from shedding.

    Restoring posture reminds of restore Ki with Ki pulses or timed attacks, weapon switches and dodges in Nioh. Ki being stamina in a way.

    I was skeptical about the character customization stuff because I'm a sucker for character customization, but watching this made me had an epiphany: Having a predefined character would allow Fromsoft to have a more character-driven story than just "you are in a world, it is miserable, enjoy".

    While it’s completely coincidental that seriko and dmc have quite an extensive use of prosthetics (each unique in its execution), I suspect industry will take note and start adding it in all their games, the same way the arrow was used in many games some time back.

    I hope they will implement so pvp in the game, not in form of invasions, but just a pvp only mode. That would be interesting, that is providing there wont be connectivity issues, like in dark souls, when you get hit even though seemingly you are far enough from the oponnent.

    In terms of the UI do you think, having played the game, it is necessary to have the enemies health take up the top left of the screen? Would the traditional approach of having it just appear above their heads not suffice? Similarly with their posture and indeed the players could it not just slot in where stamina would be. I loved everything I've seen so far but personally feel the less cluttered the screen is by UI the better.
