Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Released on June 6, 2016, it is the sequel to Hearts of Iron III and part of the Hearts of Iron series of grand strategy games focusing on World War II. The Good, the Bad, and the Weird is based on a Korean film where Koreans settle Manchuria similar to the wild wild west of the US fighting the Japanese colonizers while also doing robberies/bounty hunting job. The movie is not good, but its not bad either. It is weird though.

Hey Dave, that frontline bunching bug only occurs where you draw a frontline where one of the provinces along the frontline touches a province belonging to a country not in your faction. Simply draw the frontlines one province shorter, to avoid touching the Soviet and Chinese borders respectively. Then you only need to shuffle into the one province when you declare war.

Well...my guess is when your encircled the tanks without gas turn to useless rust buckets.

I wonder if the devs ever play HOI4 vanilla without any mods? lol Seems every time I figure out how to play Germany really well they come in and turn that off or reduce it to nothing useful. I watch these guys playing and they change templates like they have endless army experience. Funny thing is I see everyone howling about not being able to enable mads over at the Paradox forums ; )
Qing China is such a fun country with wtt. It's one of the reason wtt was my first dlc.
I always liked to defend the coast and then "retreat", so that the units are weaker when they do land, so my weaker divisions can just kinda win.
Ah, so that's how you got weird 40-width divisions with mixed paratroopers, artillery and infantry. They started as paratroopers and got battalions attached to them.

To anyone trying this in 2023: The strategy no longer works, at least reliably.
Due to the new supply system from No Step Back, you are unable to maneuver through the Japanese lines quick enough to force the white peace anymore. (The Japanese troops magically get full supply out of nowhere in Manchukuo. Its extremely frustrating.) I've been able to push Japan off the mainland in some games, but by then China has already massively developed and you would need really good luck with the Subjugation focus to win that war.
Sure, if you run this for a few days I'm sure you can get it to work eventually, but it is now *MUCH* harder and not reliable, at all.
It’s still doable using the Strategy Bittersteel uses, although in my games you don’t get the white peace event so you’ll have to fight China and Japan at the same time
And having a fully motorized army helps immensely with supply, and you can build a good amount of trucks w 1-2 factories in the time preparing for independence war
Idea for an achievement: The Thunder Dragon swallowed the Dragon that swallowed the Sun.
-as Bhutan, ally China by declaring on Japan and have them annex Japan, then turn on China and annex them all
There’s always a bigger fish.
Then add a third one: "The Red Dragon that swallowed them all" -as Wales, annex Bhutan, China, Manchukuo, Sri Lanka, Tibet and Japan"
now i realize why i lose so many paratroopers, i always forget to put them support equipments

Great video. I did the achievement back on the day when I had to go to war with everyone and china had this bug that made you lose all occupation when overlords took over. Great video
That Underground Workshops glitch is hillarious xD
I use it during peacetime, it gives you 3 off map military factories. Once you want to go to war shut it down. You lose the factories until you restart the workshops again next peace treaty 😈

So glad they fixed that issue with Hong Konk and Macau. It totally stopped me from earning the achievement when this DLC was still young.
I did the achievement in the first release without any updates. It took a week.

I rage quitted when i realized I need Hong Kong and Macau + when the US installed a japanese puppet on iwo jima, denying me from getting "dragon swallowed the sun"

for the glitch with frontline troops stacking on one tile. you can draw a fallback line on the exact same frontline and then assign them to the actual frontline once the war starts. they shouldnt shuffle at all then.
I do the same when i want to draw a pre-war frontline when bordering multiple enemy countries and the game only allows you to draw the line on one country as long as you're at peace

I love the Qing campaign. And it was fun to watch it again. The history is interesting too, this achievement made me read up on Pyu, the last emperor of china (the guy that you play here). Tragic story really.

I did this before the extra stuff was added. Fighting China and Japan at same time is doable, but not getting the freebie equipment slows you down quite a bit compared to now.
You could use a fallback line to force spread your units across the front, you will get your entrenched bonus but lose planning bonus

Btw on the independence war i just use fallback lines for fronts and if super spicy i rush korea with cav but your method is brutally good too

The fix for the frontline bug that I use is using a fallback line on the border and changing it to a frontline when war is declared. The bug itself isn't that big of a deal, but i personally like the very minor advantage it gives you on the Chinese terrain. Anyway love what you do Feedback!

to fix the glitch you can just draw a fallback line and the frontline, assign the troops to the fallback line, wait for the troops to get there, when war is started assign the troops to the front line
Don't know if this is new but Japan now has troops on your border with the Soviets when you do the independence war focus. they're cut off and have no supplies but still create a new (large) front line up north
Yet to find a better feeling then hiding in the toilet at work,turning your data on and seeing another feedback hoi4 video. Nothing comes close to that feeling of excitement
What I did with the glitch were u can't put troops on a allies border is I just make a fall back line then put them on the front when not in faction or at war
I got those achievements a year ago but I will still watch the video either way

The troops gather in those single locations because you are friends with Japan, but not with the USSR / China. Just move your front line so that it doesn't touch the border with the ussr / China and it should fix itself.
It is clear why Puyi deserves the mandate of heaven with those flying angel squads

Sometimes Japan just has a wall in Korea which you will spend a lot of time pushing through, or more likely just get assraped by 20 fully strength divisions coming ashore. So this doesn't always work.
I sometimes ignore the bandits altogether and then recruit them

10:07 To avoid this weird positioning of the troops, i recommend forming a fallback line first. Then they will distribute evenly. And when the war starts, just pause for a second, delete fallback line, and make a frontline.
With this u can push immediatly and dont have to wait for the weird shuffling of the troops.
@rob 998 Yeah, u miss out for the planing bonus, but u can faster go for those encirclements. Because u dont really wanna fight them, just grab as much land as fast as possible, especially in Korea.

FeedBackGaming, I found a way to fix the bug that happens when drawing the front lines in Japan. Make fallback lines where you plan to draw the front lines, let your troops position themselves, delete the fallback lines and make the front lines , your troops will stay in position and gain the advantage of position and planning.

If you set a fallback line along the Korean border than CTRL Click to a front line on the same border the troops stay in place ready to move with planning bonus.
I mostly followed your video today and got the achievements, I left Korea alone, 24 14/4 with 2 anti air Marines, 36 Sub 3's and naval bombers.
Unfortunately it took me a lot longer to get Japan and they took the indies, Malaya and India before I got over there but my Marines got Hirohito eventually....I didn't finish until 1949 😢.

You know something I never see people do when fighting China? Normally, the Warlord support spirit that gives +15% surrender limit makes capitulating the Nationalists a pain, but you can counter that with just 2 uses of prepping a collaboration government, since that lowers surrender limit. Makes beating China so much easier.

hmm that's weird, I did these achievements last night but I couldnt claim the mandate of heaven because I did not control Hong Kong or Guangzhouwan. Maybe I did something else wrong idk. And I cba with a world conquest as China
To prevent the railroading when the war breaks out, why not just make a fallback line on their border and then when you declare war just draw the front line orders.

I did it without the bonuses, not remember it being that hard, more that Manchukuo is almost my favourite in the game to play.
I declared war on japan during a war with republic china, and somehow managed to beat both of them. I still wondered how i did it that day...
Tbh I actually used the decision spam explot with a spam clicker on the the civilian factory decision to get this acheviment
I forgot there was a max buildslots so I ended up with all civilian and a few military factories.
Manchukuo was the first country I ever played in HOI4.
The experience gave me some... bad habits Im still trying to break
The bad thing is it will take the world to fully equip them
I like how in the start manchuko has less factories than Bhutan
