I wonder if the different color face plates come with the amp and cabinet. Very cool look and a great tone. Probable will cost a small fortune for the half stack, but well worth it.
Sometimes people discuss, if an amp is better than another one, which I think is totally useless. I found the best sound FOR ME and I didn't care about the money. The result is, that I use Engl amps and I'm so happy with them.
both can give you both. it's really more of a question on what features you need. the invader has 8 levels of gain in 4 channels, each with a bright switch, 2 fx loops, 2 master volumes, line out, slave out, and all of that MIDI programmable... short, a ton of features, needed or not. the retro has just 4 levels of gain in 2 channels, no MIDI, one fx loop, one master volume, no presence and no depth punch control. sound wise they may be a bit different, but both are excellent and versatile!
@joshludge brother its a music instrument manufactures show that happens once every year in California. they show new products and its a great event where everyone gets together.
Nice sounding amp. Classic tones indeed, with much more tonal shaping, including low end that actually is effective in getting from warm, round to tight tones. Well thought out flexibility. Thank you Engl. (however, I'm sure its a bit of a sticker shock too)
@joshludge "National Association of Music Merchants", one of the largest music product trade shows in the world, is held every year in Anaheim, CA...unfortunately it's only for dealers and distributors, and also for endorsement artists...
well, it's a question of what you need it for. first of all, both are incredible in terms of tone, and both can handle an 8string with ease. we're talking about engl after all. the invader is the way to go if you want ultimate versatility and features (fully MIDI compatible. if you use a lot of different settings and FX live it's a dream in combination with something like a TC g-system), whereas the retro is more of a plug and play straightforward amp. really depends on what you are looking for.
@BlakeeLee well idk about that specific mic but i think the company senheiser (that maybe the wrong brand lol) designs their mics to be drapped over like that so you dont have to use a stand
Played this amp a couple of weeks back, it's well worth a look if you want bit more gain than a Marshall but not be overbearing like a 6506. Well built to :)
I think the word "gimmick" is not a good word to be associated with a presentation from Engl amps.. I think the fact that Engl presenters mostly speak German and do not command English very well is a drawback. Other wise the "features + Concept" of this new amp is very nice! The sound is WONDERFUL and the German quality in the build is obvious. I wish them luck with this amp and I will check it out when I can because it is a beautiful amp with a great sound from Engl a = reputation for quality.
Let me tell ya the amp is "very rich" in its thickness and harmonic content"... thumbs up to the indian brother doing the demo his playing is superb. This amp has a lot of appeal for "those who can play".
Leaving aside the first 30 seconds, a lot of the stuff he's playing *is* pentatonic stuff actually (particularly when the volume comes up), with more harmonic stuff thrown in for colour, and yes, it sounds great. You know, just because pentatonics are the first thing you learn it doesn't mean you have to stop playing them as you get better.
well, i can't tell you what you'll like better. you'll be happy with both choices probably. if i had to buy an amp, i'd buy the same thing i bought last time probably: engl blackmore with a UK made laney GS412 and celestion classic lead speakers.
@dusted04 I wasnt refering to this Engl amp as being buzzy etc...This amp sounds Great! I was just commenting about the other negative comments on this amp.I just bought some bathroom tissue yesterday at walmart"..lol..
You don't have to crank the gain you know? With the gain lower this thing does sound like an old school Marshall...but it can do a lot more if you need it.
@daos227 Just every rock player plays 100 watts. If your not deaf you can clearly hear in the clip that it isn't retro as in 60s rock. More retro as in 80s rock.
At least the prototype looked more retro. And, if it's suppose to be retro, why did they put so much gain with a noise gate in it? The amp sounds good, but calling it retro makes no sense to me.
@dewycatt2112 my speech ... as you might know, todays kids are only interested in mid scooped hi gain mesa/framus/powerball/fireball/invader sounds and old school/retro/vintage sucks if its not from the 70s
Man they are so about to go bust. They are trying anything now ...Who would buy an ENGL for anything but metal if if it was marketed for another genre and a 100 watt retro amp that is stupid who plays a full blown 100 watter for vintage tones they play 15 or 30 watt vox amps etc. And the face pannels very cheesey. Sorry ENGL you had your time now roll over and give up to Mesa and Koch unless your willing to improve on what you already do well which is only the ENGL SE, Screamer and the Savage!
@Spacca189 Thank you so much for this information,im really enjoying watching NAMM 2012 videos. so u mean, no customers can enjoy the show?
Doug's playing - tasteful as always. Total control of the guitar!
I wonder if the different color face plates come with the amp and cabinet. Very cool look and a great tone. Probable will cost a small fortune for the half stack, but well worth it.
The guitarist with the sweet Clapton, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck licks is Doug Rappoport
@Spacca189 Musicians will always look forward to this event. Its like a sold out concert.
Guitarist is Doug Rappoport. Check out his album "BIONIC"!
being able to swap the front is an awesome idea
Can someone share what song this is, or where I can find music with similiar guitar to this?

I probably would still go with their Pro V30 cab. I'm thinking about getting this amp. Clarity is important to me. This amp has it!!!
Great playing, great sounding amp. Nice one Engl.

@OzzyInYourEars its not fake the audio is just off i bit. you can tell by watching the guy talk
@joshludge I know there's some "public" tickets available every year, but it's really tough to get one..
Played this amp a couple of weeks back, it's well worth a look if you want bit more gain than a Marshall but not be overbearing like a 6506. Well built to :)
Hi, I would like to ask what is NAMM . thank you
@joshludge Its a sort of fair where many many guitar and audio companies have booths and they demonstrate new gear or projects for the year to come.
looks pretty sick!
Sounds great!

Does this thing have reverb?
Why in the world did they stop making this amp????
Let me tell ya the amp is "very rich" in its thickness and harmonic content"... thumbs up to the indian brother doing the demo his playing is superb. This amp has a lot of appeal for "those who can play".

What is the MSRP on this amp?
Actually sounds great. The guy playing is amazing as well.
Man, the guy playing is really good! Pretty tasteful playing.
Wow, it already sounds pretty good even with the volume that low.
@blackwidow88812 No, haha. The music, what style of playing guitar is this. For example, songs with a similar guitar style. :) haha
Make no mistake, this dude can play! I wish he were my guitar teacher!
well, i can't tell you what you'll like better. you'll be happy with both choices probably. if i had to buy an amp, i'd buy the same thing i bought last time probably: engl blackmore with a UK made laney GS412 and celestion classic lead speakers.
Awesome! :)
When he says they appeal to heavy metal guys, and then the camera pans to the guy in Lizzie Borden, it's kind of a Spinal Tap moment...
nice amp engl for 2012 ,very nice.
I wonder which wintage tones we can weech.
Doug Rappoport kicks butt!
great guitar player too!
@dusted04 I wasnt refering to this Engl amp as being buzzy etc...This amp sounds Great! I was just commenting about the other negative comments on this amp.I just bought some bathroom tissue yesterday at walmart"..lol..

Doug Rappoport is playing a MusicMan Steve Morse model.
@joshludge yep, it's like christmas after christmas, let's face it :)
ништяк!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!мечтаю!о таком аппарате!
Now, that's what I call a 'hangover'...
@Jiwpgakis but....he IS playing pentatonics...
does anyone know the chords he is playing I like them alot =D
i love the licks he plays , it's not that pentatonic standard riffing, more romantic 50's stuff:D why not!
anyone know if this amp can get a good modern metal tone at bedroom volumes?
looks, sound and has almost the same guitar as steve lukather :D
crank this amp up!
1:33 Holy shit, Fabio endorses ENGL!
@ThieleM
It does not. Their loops are fantastic though.
@abysslord16
Examples please?
vivian cambell and scott gorham behind him! :)
@etguitar18 Nice info, this event is very interesting I wish I can come someday. thanks
well of course
Nice sound effect @ 2:10 :-P
@Sogygo well im from the states.
that amp sounds fuckin killer!!!!
TASTY!
@daos227 Just every rock player plays 100 watts. If your not deaf you can clearly hear in the clip that it isn't retro as in 60s rock. More retro as in 80s rock.
@nicolasrivera
Michael is usually really into things....I suspect he filmed this after a long night of debauchery
wow so smooth !
im selling my dual rec
a good player is allways a nice way to show an amp. i would sound like ass through this :D
At least the prototype looked more retro. And, if it's suppose to be retro, why did they put so much gain with a noise gate in it? The amp sounds good, but calling it retro makes no sense to me.
Yellow, black and bread.
Christopher Walken, says, dont be shy.
Wow, i think i might have to get rid of my Marshall stack now.........lol
I don't buy an amplifier for the purpose of matching its color to the carpet and drapes in my house......
about 1300 euro. Fuck yeah :D
geezzzz, what is up with the zoom in and out so often??? amateur
The tone was better with the red faceplate
@dewycatt2112 my speech ... as you might know, todays kids are only interested in mid scooped hi gain mesa/framus/powerball/fireball/invader sounds and old school/retro/vintage sucks if its not from the 70s
engl can do it as well, and it can not only do that...
@MOSKII58 besides wetro
can't hear any retro-sound...
haha look its chinguy from last year :D
engl. yjm is a one-trick pony, the engl is way more versatile.
@BlakeeLee ive heard way worse showfloor sound.
I think he was hung over when they filmed this
Toy Story.
no.......
@dewycatt2112 would you like a tissue !
great amps, none worth the price tag. for that you can get 2 of almost any amp just as good or better then an engl.
tyjúbsz... :D
I like a way you talk...mmmhmmm.
not in sync
Worst pitch man ever. Dude you're representing ENGL! Get it together.
Man they are so about to go bust.
