Can these garlic babies be saved?

  • Tragedy struck two new garlic growers when they went upstairs online to find their garlic bed had collapsed from the winter rain and snow. With their garlic babies fully exposed to the elements and being lashed with wind, rain, and snow, we had to work quickly. But, after several hours of working in freezing temperatures, we had the garlic transplanted into a new home and tucked in from the elements. The only question that remained - would they be able to recover?

Have you checked out our Harvesting Garlic video? That covers what I do for harvesting - which is going to be a different date/time for each of us! I think for myself about 10-14 days from now!

@@pauladenisecoutinho2203 One thing you can do is a little exploratory excavation. Using your fingers and a paint brush just remove the soil around the main stem until you get down to the bulb to see how it's looking!

Thank you for this video. I did not know about the 4 brown leaves per garlic trick. I know what I will be doing after work! Yay. What would you suggest for direct sowing in the garlic spot?
Lastly, what can cause the garlic to not grow high and strong? I am hoping for a 50% success rate for year 1. Thank you.

How come they didn’t harvest the scapes? The bulbs would be noticeably larger if they had.

Ah! They did harvest them a few weeks earlier, but just cut them a little bit high up! :)
