- www.coptool.com/dewalt-20v-ma... - Dewalt’s DCS331 has been on the market since 2012- and over 6 years later, Dewalt has finally released a long-awaited upgrade. The DCS334 Jigsaw has arrived and it’s engineered for the XR battery platform, offering a lot of new upgrades over the 331. For many Dewalt fans, especially those who may be approaching year 7 on their original 20V MAX jigsaw, the question now is, “should I upgrade?” To help us answer that question, we gave the tools to Jason Brown @CHOPDSHOP, a maker and craftsman of over 15 years, and asked him to compare them. Then we headed back to Ohio Power Tool where Kris Cousins takes them apart to examine the upgrades in design and engineering. This is your INSIDE LOOK at the Dewalt 20v Max Jigsaw...

One of the best UA-cam videos i have seen in both content and delivery! Kudos to you and thanks...
I have the 331. I do a lot of cutting with it. My most used tool. Haven’t had any problems with it at all. If it does go out I’ll definitely pick up the brushless 334 model. Great video!
My 5Ah battery lasts around 40 minutes in 331 cutting 4.4cm thick wood. All is great but why isn't the blower working at all no matter what position.?
I have the brushless saw and it is great. Makes it so much easier being cordless and not dragging around cords on a job.
Yea its not 1990
By far, the best review of these two tools! Thanks!
It's these videos I feel that are a full investment in my time. I thank and appreciate your time in making this video. Seriously . Keep up the good work guys !!!! Thanks again!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I just bought the 331 it’s my first jig saw I’m happy with it I just started wood working and it was on sale so that’s why I bought that one
Just got a new dcs334 to replace an old corded, craftsman, scroll version jigsaw. The old craftsman is very heavy. It did the job, but rather tiring to use.
This new DeWalt jigsaw saw is a joy because it is so light and easy to maneuver. And of course, no cord to snag anywhere. A big win!
Was looking at buying a 331 that's on special (new old-stock), but after seeing this I've decided to spend the extra coin on the 334!
I was saving up to buy the dcs331 and boom the dcs334 came out with 2 bright LED so i got that as a bare tool practically for the same price i was gonna get the dcs331 for😉
Subbed and thumbs up. Where did you buy the big yellow plastic set square?. That looks a handy thing on the bench and it STANDS out.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Great video, I am looking to buy a new jigsaw to replace my 18 volt unit and you helped me make the decision to buy the 334B model. It seems far superior.
I just picked up the XR. It’s butter. Love it
Would you be so kind as to see if the dust blower actually functions, if it keeps the work area clear enough that you can always see a drawn line? thanks so much!
@@jacobrichards-hegnauer3617 Hi did you get one? Does it keep the work line clear?
I just got this jigsaw. It's pretty awesome. Very quiet and with the battery attached it's well balanced. I just wanted to mention one part that I noticed that was incorrect. This tool has a variable speed setting, but it also has variable speed in the trigger itself. 4:20 It kinda makes me wonder if he actually used it or if this was the first time he picked it up because you would notice something like that. Anyway, it's definitely a great tool. However, maybe you threw it away because it's easy to miss but there's a little clear piece of acrylic that came in the bag with the manual. It's a splinter guard. I can't seem to get it attached securely to the baseplate. It just kind of sits there and wiggles. Maybe I'm missing something.
I heard him say it had both trigger and wheel speed controls.
He also did clearly (and incorrectly) say that the 334 speed was varied only by the trigger as if that's a good thing.
just got one this is the best jig saw ive used or owned
Thanks guys great video
Классный обзор!!! Не отказался бы от любого из них, только подарить некому!
Я жду подарка ))
Does the XR accept bayonet blades (with the L shank)? I've seen someone
say it does but I'd like confirmation of a second person before I buy.
Thanks!
The 331 is a beast, power and durability
Awesome stuff! No mention of the barrel grip. That's a first !
We got this video out of the way first so we could dedicate that entire feature film length video just on the barrel grip. Coming soon!
I totally agree that the Xr is fancier, I own one. But my xr is falling apart and my company’s old brushed model is still holding strong. The build quality doesn’t seem to be great.
The new one is probably the best dealt tool out there in modern catalog
Yessss im stocked to hear all this good news
@@robinsonbetonbouwrobbo8847 I just got this one because I need to work on an RV with no 120 vac, it totally kicks ass.
@@truthserum9157 there beautiful
Lads, any of you had the chance to use Ryobi R18JS-0 ONE and Dewalt DCS334 or over 331? Which one I could go for for the DIY at home, decking, shed etc? I already have the batteries for Dewalt; so overall the price range comes close...Thoughts? Thanks.
334 is the better of all three.
Nice video I’m brand new to carpentry hoping one day to start a small business. Really thinking about getting a jig saw an a table saw.
That's great Kyle! Good luck with your new venture!
Can you use regular Dewalt batteries on the XR or do you need to buy XR batteries?
Nó mention of the dust blower or should I say lack off dust blower
Dont like selectable speed option, much rather have the response in the trigger, wish they kept that but all around the best jigsaw vs all other competitors.
I can say that first feeling was the same, but after you get used with it, you realise that it's much better😉
I’m not sure what your talking about, it has both trigger and wheel speed controls.
thank you
What are the best jigsaw blades? I was thinking of Diablo blades from Home Depot. Any recommendations?
I have had good luck with Bosch blades
What brand are those long bits that the technician used to take it apart?!
IRWIN
Love my 331…I’m good for now.
I have had the 331 since it came out ,actually had 2 . The detent plate gets so lose when making a cut its terrible. Does anyone know how to fix this issue and have thy experienced issues with the 334
Tighten the Allen bolts on the bottom plate.
The 334 definitely seems better than the 331. There is also the 335 barrel grip model that has me interested
Prob. a good video but w
ould like there to be a No Music in the background version.
I will never understand why YoutTube presenters feel the need to have music blaring competing with what they are trying to say to us.
My 5Ah battery lasts around 40 minutes in 331 cutting 4.4cm thick wood. All is great, but why isn't the blower working at all no matter what position.? I mean there is nothing at all and it's new.
Nice rewiev
I'm new to the dewalt line, always been a craftsman kinda guy,but I'm going all in on dewalt after I got robbed and lost my craftsman power tools.main reason I'm trying dewalt is because home depot is closer and they don't carry craftsman in the varity
DeWALT is a fantastic line to invest in for pro work. They make great tools, and they have a good customer service history.
@@ToolShow I'm not by any means a pro but I figure if your gona buy tools they might as well last
I've read good things about dewalt so I figure I'll try them out.
Going all battery since the home I'm in can't handle alot of load on the breakers plus I don't have to worry about cords getting in the way
@@ruddogcanin307 Best jigsaw is when you see not dust at all when you cutting watch this 😉
ua-cam.com/video/3LjstpaJKsI/v-deo.html
@@ruddogcanin307 you can’t go wrong with DeWalt or Milwaukee, both are top notch, I own both all DeWalt for wood and Milwaukee for impact mechanics tools.
"Reminds me of a sewing machine" you know the first jigsaw was made from a sewing machine!
realllyyyyy,,,,,wow😉👍
Как преобрести этот 334 20 v
Thanks for the side by side. I have the 331, and it has two big downsides. Sadly your review/comparison does not go into "use" of the two tools and thus the DCS331's biggest limitation was never revealed. The DCS331 claims to have a "dust blower" to keep line of sight clear, however with three different copies of this saw I have found that the DCS331's dust blower simply can not actually keep your cutting area clear. It also lacks and built in lighting, a sure indicator of it's 8 year old design. The DCS334 clearly solves the built in lighting problem, and that alone could get me to upgrade, however I need to be assured that it's dust blower actually functions. If not I will look at Bosch or Makita who have solved this problem. Can anyone attest to any improvement in the DCS334 dust blower vs. the CDS331? thanks in advance.
Hi there did you get the 334? I heard it clears dust as you work is this true? Thanks
@@paulahamilton7290 I did, I ended up getting booth versions, top handle and barrel grip, and BOTH due clear the dust well! So yes. The light is also a huge advantage. I have donated my older models to the school I work for.
Who else is watching cause waiting for it to arrive in post
👍
Mine sucks. I haven't even had it a year and it now constantly cuts power ever few seconds. And the bevel indent locks no longer lock. It's never been dropped or abused under load, and it's not the batteries. Funny enough, the same damn thing with power cutting out has happened to my buddies xr brushless circ. Dewalt is trash these days.
After watching this, twice.. i think I’m buying the 331b.
It seems better built
One thing that was forgotten that I noticed and I’m not happy about is the new 34 does not have a blower built in. 31 had a blower that worked great and help clear away shaving away from your line. Why would ou not include that feature? Even if it added size.
It does have a blower, they talked about it in the video. The difference is that on 334 cannot be adjusted or turned off,it's always on.
We talked about it quickly but can see the confusion, they did away with the switch to turn blower on/off (not the blower itself). It's always on, most people never turn it off so less parts to break and confusion just to have it always on.
Coptool ok, I didn’t see that, and when using my 34 I still had to blow myself, why is the blower so low?
The reason is because they removed the dust extraction feature which meant switching off the blower to use, makes since as I don't know anyone that uses extraction on jigsaw s ,just makes them awkward to use
@@pinherlikeawrestler I suppose it's because of the speed of running, I had the same problem and then I realized that😂
dewalt 20v XR brushless vs 20V XR brushed- look faced with D-hand jigsaw
?
Look inside... and doesn't even split the molded clamshell.
Can these run off flexvolt batteries?
Yes.
laughing because your "go to" Ryobi's are hanging up in your shop while you perform a DeWalt review lol
This guy previously work as an anchor for fox News? lol 🤣
older one its really shit, used 5 month and now its broken
You have the 331? Did dewalt replace it? I hear they are very good at replacing any broken tools
Few reasons why the older model is better.
Cheaper,
More reliable, brushless technology cant be repaired as easy.
More solid tool,
Metal clip instead of cheap plastic one on new model.
Most important reason of all.... when you are installing base board cutting upside down there is no light to blind you haha
And you can actually turn off the blower when cutting metal, so the cutting oil wont be blown away
Whats is the best
Haha we cover it in the video. Spoiler alert: DCS334 is a direct upgrade for the very popular DCS331. It's better in almost every way power, light, runtime, vibration, etc.
331 is best of the best

Horrible, unnecessary guitar music.
