John McCririck was the quintessential English eccentric......One of the great characters not only of sport or journalism,....but of life itself, ...so .wonderfully wacky and original....but .sadly we seem to be losing the larger than life colourful and unique characters,..that we sadly lack in the modern Britain

Those were the days when John McCririck was a cool sharp dresser. The jacket and sunglasses look amazing. I never thought I would admire McCririck's dress sense.
For the 70s, he looks okay. Normal in fact.

He was actually a very good journalist at The Sporting Life before becoming a parody of himself at Channel 4. He picked some strange fights though. like he's totally against the use of the whip in horse racing ' because beating animals in the name of sport is obscene' yet he's a big supporter of foxhunting ?!?
+Steve Veasey How racehorses are treated on yards at home in the hands of very young stable lads/lassies and idiot trainers is where you will find the worst cruelty .Not all trainers are idiots but most don't give a rats ass for true horsemanship as they are in the game for money, nothing els matters . It annoys trainers when horses or staff get sick/injured . They just get rid of them if they are no use any more.

I understand what you mean but to be fair a racehorse that can't race because of injury is literally useless to an owner or trainer. Apart from the very top end of racing Owners should not expect to make a fortune out of the game. There are too many horses chasing too little prize money in the UK for anybody to expect to make much money...

Saw him at quite a few racecourses when he worked for ch4 must admit he was no different when the cameras weren't on him I always praised him for that.Not like some of the other miserable varmints especially Tanya.

I've watched over half of this video and I still have no idea what he's talking about.

He was a reporter for the "Sporting Life", ( a now defunct racing paper), and specialised in covering Hare Coursing events. The context of this discussion was his attendance at a meeting for 'anti-blood sports', where he no doubt ruffled a few feathers by being vocal on behalf of "Field Sports". Coursing is now illegal but still happens in pre-arranged meets in out of the way country places.

Looked a bit like Noel Edmonds back then. In 1977 he was 37 and was not well known with not much charisma. Certainly did not attract much attention until he became the unmistakable eccentric dressed and opiniated loud mouthed channel 4 horse racing commentator who everyone remembers.
John's commitment to being an unmitigated piece of shit is admirable. His devotion to duty was outstanding.
